Warranty is better with Icon because there is a HF on every corner. Tracking down a Snap On truck for a home owner that did not buy from the driver can be difficult sometimes the driver reluctant. So, Icon for the win, cheaper, similar quality and easier when/if a problem arises.
I love my icon flush cutters and alot cheaper than the snap on version. And I can stop at harbor freight and warranty them out. Snap on you have to wait for the truck to come around and hope he shows up that week. I had to warranty out my snap on ratchet and I waited for 3 weeks for the snap on tool truck to come around.
I like how the Icon is easier to open in one direction (outwards). Makes it easy for fingers and since its harder in the other direction you can squeeze it in your hand which isnt hard at all. Snap on seems backwards if these are designed like that.
I really like the icon Pliers i purchased most of them non have let me down. And if they do I can Walk right in to a Store that’s 2.5 miles from my house and get a new one with there lifetime Warranty
They’re delivering snap on quality (very close at least) for the price of cheap beater tools. Would I prefer USA made? Sure, but I also prefer to drive to a store and pick up what I need when I need it. If Snap On had stores every couple miles like Harbor Freight does, I’d be filing for bankruptcy. In the meantime I’m just as satisfied with my icon tools as I’ve been with Snap On.
Also, the pliers prices have been all over the place! I’m certain I paid 17.99 a while ago, and I noticed a lot of them had gone down a few bucks here and there. A few models were usually just over $20 which is a very common 20-30% discount cut off (always wait for coupons unless you need the tool there’s usually at least a 20% every month, and occasionally they do 20-30% off anything/ no restrictions a few times since before Christmas that have occasionally popped up this year as well)
I’m constantly amazed how good the Icon tools are and I have snap on tools also to compare them too. Dollar for dollar the Icon wins every time. You work to make money but it goes a lot further when you’re not shelling out ridiculous amounts for tools that are at least 98% the same.
The existence of Harbor Freight gives Snap-On the incentive to keep innovate and allow ordinary people to use excellent tools. That’s the way the world improves
I like the icons I got cause a mistake.. it got an extra amount of dip on one side.. I know they’d replace, but they are comfortable… it’s only on one half so idk how they pulled it off but I’m not complaining. It’s not really a tool that needs the extra cushion, but why not enjoy it?
Blatant copycat down to the visuals is not something that should be supported. They could have made a set of flush cuts with their own twist, or styled them a bit different. But they chose to imitate their most famous competitor down to the way they look. I would sooner buy any other brand, and that applies to most Icon tools. There are lot's of pliers made by ethical companies for similar money to Icon, (Klein, Channellock, Wilde, to name a few).
Good morning Doc. Let’s face it, most people use tools at or beyond capacity. I would like to see the same. If one or both get damaged they are lifetime warranty just swap them out
Snap-on makes really good tools but honestly good for Harbor Freight with the icon cuz snap-ons been ripping people off from many years competition is good for everyone It drives the prices down for the customers and increases innovation
Doc/All Did I see a very small dent in the middle of the Snapon's cutting edge? Doc, hold them in front of a light to see the edge alignment and condition..
I bet most of us would prefer to buy Snap-On and support and own American made. The problem is, only a very small fraction of a percent of Snap-On's actual demographic have access to a truck. Then they want to charge $25 to ship a pair of already VERY expensive (and honestly, overpriced) pliers, when literally nearly every other company is offering free shipping, or shipping for what it actually costs them (less than $10, come one Snap-on!). That $60 tool is now $90 after taxes and shipping. Get real. I can buy 4 of the Icons, break one, give two away, and still have one left, and they all still have the same lifetime warranty. Sorry, but I have to go with Icon. If Snap-On offered free shipping? Honestly, I'd probably buy Snap-on. But I'm not paying half the price of the tool over again just to ship it. I'm also not spending $250 every time I want one or two tools just to get free shipping.
Personally I really dislike that across society now its become accepted to imitate someone's work pretty much 100% and then undercut them. I love to see affordable tools and welcome innovation, but copying someone else's design to the letter is not a practice I can support. Just a personal choice of course.
Lmao. Why snap on lost the suit is because they were using the same manufacturer that harbor freight uses and they got mad that people were going to know. Do some homework people all brands even Merica copy someone and STEAL HARD WORK and call it there own
@@drew5992 I’d be happy to respond, but please try and make your point clearly and concisely. The topic here is regarding the blatant copy of design to imitate a competitors product, and why it seems so many in society are happy to then use the imitator without shame.
Alot of people don't like copycats I get that but if snap on was reasonable with their pricing there wouldn't be any copycats I agree why pay more for a tool that performs very close to its competitors it would be great if icon had American made tools like tekton does the price would go up a little but not like snap on thanks for sharing my friend
IMHO, Snap-On has become too much of a pita... not only asinine expensive, but no one has even seen one of their trucks around in eons. For the record, I've been using a pair of Knipex (74 01 200) cutters for ages that still work great... but will probably look into HF's offerings if/when new are needed. Snap-On does still make some stuff worth the trouble & irritation... the LN47ACF long nose slip joints for example.
You can try and justify your HOBO Freight Icon job tools all you want but the fact is they well never be Snap On quality or durability. You get what you pay for in life so if you want cheap products you will get cheap products in return. if you want quality products they will have to pay for them.
Harbor Freight needs to correct the wording on their packaging. It should read: "Design COPIED in the USA. Made in Taiwan." Harbor Freight's ICON sales slogan should be "The Duplicator. Not Innovator." The ICON pliers look as if the "designer" laid a Snap-on plier on a piece of blank paper and traced around it and then made a wax mold. I'm not a Harbor Freight hater, but, Harbor Freight should have taken steps to come up with their own design.
Tell Snap On that. They didn't create diagonal cutting pliers nor did they create their $900 floor jack that is the same as the $250 HF jack. They didn't create anything.
@@svn5994 Two diagonal cutters look like this. One of them is brand new, and one has existed for years. You are making a dishonest argument to say "they didn't create diagonal cutters". There are lot's of diagonal cutter styles and designs. They chose their most famous competitor and copied them as close as they possibly could. That is not a thing conscientious consumers should support. If you don't want to spend Snap-On money their are plenty of high quality pliers made by more ethical companies.

Must suck to be poor and buy ripoff icon over snap on. Thankfully the price difference makes no difference to me and I’ll support the the original ideas over the lazy copycat every time.
What’s innovative or original in the snap on version? They didn’t create the 7” diagonal cutter. They copied from someone else as well. Nearly every diagonal cutter (of similar size) is about the same. Durability…maybe not so much
Icon is a cheap rip off HF can't come up with a design of there own they rip off everyone and everybody seems to be missing my point especially the harbor freight fanboys how about harbor freight come up with a tool that actually don't resemble somebody else's stuff

I love the ICON tools and I don't have Snap-on money. Looking forward to your reviews on the ICON line up.
Thanks Doc
I was hoping you would cut some really hard wires to compare their durability.
I have the ICON flush cuts and they're great

Once HF sells as many of these as they can, they will release them with green handles. Then 6 other colors.
Then pink.

1:36 Look at those tops there... They're so close.... How can that be??? What?? Oh, wait! 😂🤣😂
The Icons are Snap On clones though. 😁
That swap was slick
I have a ton of Snap on pliers and I love the Icons. The Icons i can throw around and just relax.

I got those icon cutters and I think the handles feel to bulky and hard, but the cut good. They did start rusting a bit after a year
You can coat them with flood penetrol. All of my snap on and icon rust, the penetrol keeps it at bay and doesnt feel oily
So do the snap ons

Test the harness of the metal. They are identical too...
I have both. In the shop Snap-on 87ACF. In my truck Icon with 20% off coupons.
will the snap on cut nails and steel without chipping

at this point snap on should say how its tools are comparable to HF
I don't have the 7". Now my 6" ICON is amazing for only $25

And snapon shipping is not free if you don't have a truck come by.
