    LYRICS
    HUMAN SADNESS

beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field, i will be meeting you there
    -Rumi

    put money in my hand
and i will do the things you want me to
    Vanity… overriding wisdom,
    usually common sense.
    should i delete it,
    you said you'd read it
you promised you would never ruin it with sequels,
I wake for you… on and on

beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field,
i will be meeting you there.

    ~
    the moon's a skull, i think it's grinning
the room is full of people now i think it's spinning
wanted you… didn't ask for nothing. wait for you… on and on
and i don't need your tie, i don't need to, tired of saying it.
we don't need more talk, don't empty out your canteen on the desert floor.
    …ahhh, it's all my fault

    never wanna spell it out,
i just want to say that it is all my fault,
i could never spit it out,
i don't wanna fix your tie...
never want to say we're sad,
thankful that we got some chance,
i know you won't get back your time,
i wish that you could take it back...

beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field,
i will be meeting you there.

    ~
he wanted it more than me, i suppose
i was in a rush to wait in a line.
now i hear echoes of my old self,
this is not the way to be.
    all at once,
    i lost my way...

is it not true, the things that we did?
come here at once and look what they did
come here shut down and tune in tonite,
learn the words that they teach you without you realizing it
come here sit down and watch some tv
mine all mine / wait your turn
cross my cross / slice his hand
not your son / not your friend / not your enemy
i rely on the little things to get me by,
    conscience says "i'm ok",
you don't hear what they say.
"he's not my son, search his home"
    off to war,
it's time to go hide inside

    -
    soft skin,
    weak chin,
just walk me thru it, tell me what to do i'll do
    hurry hurry, that's my baby
    ohh, do what you can.

all the time - he waits for me.
and now we talk from time to time,
hits you on the head when nobody's there,
then he says 'come here could you fix my tie?'
    it's never gonna be,
to be is not the way to be.
show me where to go don't get angry so quickly,
    fuck depression...

beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field,
i will be meeting you there

    ~

understanding is more important than love,
if not money will always trump justice

    all is lost,
    i'll find my way...
    so i say,
to be is not to be.
to be is not the way to be.

Your not alone I've been hearing Julius Casablanca's music for many years but if it weren't for Daft Punks Instant Crush I would never knew he existed. I'm happy and grateful that Daft Punk are highly universal when it comes to music.

father-son relationship.. Julian's father passed away not long before this song was released. He had somewhat tension with his late father, i read somewhere about this.. my two cents tho..

omg i knew i wasn't the only one, this song is just so fucking amazing. And yeah it really does live up to it's title a lot, and oh my god the music video for this is also just amazing. i rarely even care about music videos but the music video for this together with the music is just so artistic and a whole experience. Just this song is much more than just a song to me, it's like more idk i can't explain it, 10/10 masterpiece song
p.s. i usually get sick of songs that last a very long time, especially ones as long as 10 minutes, that's very long but somehow i can listen to every second of this song on repeat forever. I never get bored, i never get sick of it

When I first heard this song I was amazed, I loved it right from the start… however I didn’t understand the lyrics, I’m a huge Julian fan but I didn’t realize the depth of his relationship with his father. After I heard the song I watched his fathers documentary “Casablancas-the man who loved women” and when I was watching it, it all came crashing down.. you realize that his father was so wrapped up in his job, and the models, that he completely neglected Julian. He only mentioned Julian once in the damn documentary. Then you realize the “fix your tie” references, once you see his father ALWAYS wore a suit with a tie. Every time he says “hits you on the head when nobody’s there, then he says ‘come here could you fix my tie?’ “ it KILLS me. I love Julian and it hurts my heart that he had to go through this with his father.. and he really talks about it all in this song, along with how corrupted the world is. It really is the definition of “human sadness”.

Put money in my hand and I will do the things you want me to
Vanity overriding wisdom, usually common sense
Should I delete it, you said you'd read it
You promised you would never ruin it with sequels
I wait for you on and on
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field
I will be meeting you there
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field
I will be meeting you there
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a-
    The moon's a skull, I think it's grinning
The room is full of people now I think it's spinning
Wanted you, didn't ask for nothing
Wait for you on and on
And I don't need your tie, I don't need to, tired of saying it
We don't need more talk, don't empty out your canteen on the desert floor
    Ahhh, it's all my fault
Never wanna spell it out, I just want to say that it is all my fault
I could never spit it out, I don't wanna fix your tie
Never want to say we're sad, thankful that we got some chance
I know you won't get back your time, I wish that you could take it back
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field
I will be meeting you there
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field
I will be meeting you there
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field
I will be meeting you there
He wanted it more than me, I suppose
I was in a rush to wait in a line
Now I hear echoes of my old self
This is not the way to be
All at once, I lost my way
Is it not true, the things that we did?
Come here at once and look what they did
Come here shut down and tune in tonight
Learn the words that they teach you without you realizing it
Come here sit down and watch some TV
Mine all mine, wait your turn
Cross my cross, slice his hand
Not your son, not your friend, not your enemy
I rely on the little things to get me by, conscience says "I'm ok"
You don't hear what they say "He's not my son, search his home"
Off to war, it's time to go hide inside
    Soft skin, weak chin
Just walk me through it, tell me what to do I'll do it
Hurry hurry, that's my baby, ohh, do what you can
All the time, he waits for me
And now we talk from time to time
Hits you on the head when nobody's there
Then he says "Come here could you fix my tie?"
It's never gonna be to be is not the way to be
Show me where to go don't get angry so quickly, fuck depression
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field
I will be meeting you there
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field
I will be meeting you there
Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field
I will be meeting you there
Understanding is more important than love
If not money will always trump justice
All is lost, I'll find my way
So I say to be is not to be, to be is not the way to be

  • @julestheking

This song means so much to me. It's very rare to hear an artwork that lives up to a title as large in scope as "Human Sadness" but this completely lives up to the expectation and explores it with sophistication and depth. The instruments literally sound like they're crying, the lyrics are vague but point towards deep regret and longing.
The use of Mozarts Requiem for the dead. The subtext of this song, Julians father, their complicated relationship and Julian coming to terms with his fathers passing and his own mortality. The fuzzy, harsh soundscape that is unrelenting in bluntness but still beautiful in melody and production. (much like life is, unrelenting pain but still very beautiful)
All of it adds to a Journey that doesn't sound ten minutes but like an entire lifetime, ending with "To Be is not To Be" or "To Live is to Die" what a profound statement on the human condition.
just in every aspect of the word, a Masterpiece.

The lyric "Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field, I will be meeting you there." in this song is actually a quote of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, a Turkish-Farsian poet and philosopher who lived in 13th century. He has a quite interesting story. He wrote a lot of poems and books. He had a friend called Shams-e Tabrizi. He was also a philosopher and Rumi's only friend. According to his books and records, they did talking sessions which lasted 20-25 hours without eating or sleeping. He also wrote in that records that he suspects Shams to be a messiah. Also, according to multiple records according his, the city's citizens he lived in hates Shams but loves Rumi. Shams died in 1248, and Rumi said this to him after his passing. Also, after his passing, Rumi opened schools, started to teach childrens and gave himself more into the religion. This guy is interesting.

easily my favourite song i’ve ever come across and i feel so lucky to have stumbled across this and the voidz.
when i first heard it, i didn’t really understand what i was listening to because it was so far removed from anything else i’ve ever heard. what first captured me, aside from the bass line, was julian’s vocal distortion and how it blended/became a part of the instrumentation. this was exciting in and of itself because again, maybe i’m musically sheltered, but i hadn’t ever come across such a clever arrangement.
then there’s some of the lyrics: “don’t empty out your canteen on the desert floor” which my analysis of that phrase is something to the effect of: “don’t pour and pour your energy into something/someone that will just take all you have and remain unchanged despite you depleting all your resources” i love how the lyrics follow with julian belting out “it’s all my fault” which really drove the whole passage home for me.
then there’s all the instrumentation - the gritty, screeching, wailing guitars and the complete 180 of a tempo change into the second portion of the piece - all purposefully emotional. i felt like julian and the boys knew exactly what they were doing here with all the sound and intended to demonstrate yearning, grief, anger, resentment (the spectrum of human sadness) through their instruments in this song. a total personification of sadness which was a wild realization for me.
i won’t lie, when i first heard this piece and started coming back to listen again and again, i only liked a few passages and found the whole song to be really overwhelming and muddled. after a few more listens, i vividly remember some kind of haze lifting and it was like i really *heard* what was happening for the first time which was an incredible experience.
anyways, i didn’t intend to turn this into a complete review, but it’s been years and i wanted to write out all my feelings about this piece. i’m certain i won’t ever forget this song.

Its like Casablancas thought of all the people who are still slaves to their expectations of how he should sound, and spit on them. (but really, he just does w/e he wants and feels)

My thoughts on lyrics: ''to be is not to be, to be is not the way to be"- a rumination of Hamlet's famous soliloquy ( at end of song) when Hamlet tries to make sense of the purpose of life and death, after he loses his father. Like Hamlet, he sees little reason to carry on due to losses in life. ( Maybe his father's death he can't come to terms with.)
It seems like a father/son relationship that broke, like when he says " I don't want to fix your tie"; reminds me of a father guiding/teaching his son to tie their tie when they're little: which is a sort of bonding experience, but their relationship is damaged, and they can't bond properly.
"Beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field, and I'll be meeting you there": sort of makes me think of him seeing his father somewhere in the afterlife, where the mistakes of life are no longer judged: they will only then be able to reconcile their love for each other.

Does anybody get a post apocalyptic vibe? A vibe where the Voidz are the outcasts in a place where survival determines daily life. However, with the little instruments and little technology, Julian and the band manage to take over radio waves in order to show society their sound. A sound that is a distorted mess, but also a sound where you can find hints of beauty. A sound that is given to the people, and a sound that can't be exploited. A sound with glimmers of beauty in this barbaric slaughterhouse that was once called humanity....so they say...

I love it. I LOVE IT. Am I the only one who's in love with this? I'm not even a fan of experimental music (if that's how you can call this, I don't want to enter some dumb music genre discussion), but this is... so peaceful, so nostalgic, like I can see myself sleeping to this. It creates lots of VHS images in my head which I think was the intention. It also reminds me of vaporwave which I'm currently listening to. Julian's distorted voice sounds beautiful too. I can't wait to hear the entire album!

    • @Alight86
      @Alight86 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

peaceful? O_O woah, i think this song is about a total different feeling, maybe the intention is chasing peace, but not enhancing peace with the song sounds and lyrics, as it's tumultuous... it seems like it's being enhancing bad feelings to dismiss them...

    • @Necrofantasiaaa
      @Necrofantasiaaa 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Alight86 You're right. Maybe peaceful wasn't the word, but relaxing. It relaxes me, that's what I meant. Although it also makes me feel anxious, but I like it.
As for the lyrics... well, they've been written by Julian, right? It's usually hard to interpret his lyrics, you don't get more than the "feeling" to them, which in this case it's depressing. I'd like to read an interesting interpretation of this lyrics, though.

    • @Necrofantasiaaa
      @Necrofantasiaaa 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

***** I understand it too but I wish people would appreciate this, because I don't think it's "overdone". I don't care about everyone liking experimental music, I'd just like Julian's intentions to be conveyed properly (I know I'm no one to say this tho lol). I've listened to noisy, shitty experimental music which I can't stand, and because of that I know this is something else. There is melody, there are feelings, the entire song is connected by the same bass line. I'm not a music expert but I don't think this is bad, apart from liking it or not.

    lyrics to human sadness
    put money in my hand
and i will do the things you want me to
    Vanity… overriding wisdom,
    usually common sense.
    should i delete it,
    you said you'd read it
you promised you would never ruin it with sequels,
I wake for you… on and on

beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field,
i will be meeting you there.

    ~
    the moon's a skull, i think it's grinning
the room is full of people now i think it's spinning
wanted you… didn't ask for nothing. wait for you… on and on
and i don't need your tie, i don't need to, tired of saying it.
we don't need more talk, don't empty out your canteen on the desert floor.
    …ahhh, it's all my fault

    never wanna spell it out,
i just want to say that it is all my fault,
i could never spit it out,
i don't wanna fix your tie...
never want to say we're sad,
thankful that we got some chance,
i know you won't get back your time,
i wish that you could take it back...

beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field,
i will be meeting you there.

    ~
he wanted it more than me, i suppose
i was in a rush to wait in a line.
now i hear echoes of my old self,
this is not the way to be.
    all at once,
    i lost my way...

is it not true, the things that we did?
come here at once and look what they did
come here shut down and tune in tonite,
learn the words that they teach you without you realizing it
come here sit down and watch some tv
mine all mine / wait your turn
cross my cross / slice his hand
not your son / not your friend / not your enemy
i rely on the little things to get me by,
    conscience says "i'm ok",
you don't hear what they say.
"he's not my son, search his home"
    off to war,
it's time to go hide inside

    -
    soft skin,
    weak chin,
just walk me thru it, tell me what to do i'll do
    hurry hurry, that's my baby
    ohh, do what you can.

all the time - he waits for me.
and now we talk from time to time,
hits you on the head when nobody's there,
then he says 'come here could you fix my tie?'
    it's never gonna be,
to be is not the way to be.
show me where to go don't get angry so quickly,
    fuck depression...

beyond all ideas of right and wrong there is a field,
i will be meeting you there

    ~

understanding is more important than love,
if not money will always trump justice

    all is lost,
    i'll find my way...
    so i say,
to be is not to be.
to be is not the way to be.
