Kudos for breaking in each of the strings before making the recording, and plays them instead of taking precious time to talk about them. Your attention to detail is outstanding!
4:21 I recognize at once, since I use Dominant synthetics since last summer. I always found the E string painfully bright--downright screechy. I always assumed this sound was my mistake, but here I recognize it on the spot. I will replace the E string as soon as possible. Thanks for this very helpful comparison!
Good format for comparisons- much better than just talking about it, like some sites. Thank you. Favourite on my fiddle is Helicore, It seems to cope well with temp. and humidity changes, indoors or out. I agree about Dominant E strings. They need to do something about that.
This is amazing. I listened to them blind and it was so helpful. Hilarious to me that the pirastro obligato strings reminded me of my viola, because I have those strings on there 🤣 My top pick from my blind study was Pirastro Evah Pirazzi, with Infeld Blue faring pretty well, though I thought it sounded thin and weak in the upper register. (I've been playing on D'Addario Helicore strings on my violin)
I wonder are the strings broken in? Probably not, and it takes a while for a violin to settle after having all it's strings replaced even if they are broken in. What we are comparing here is how the different brands sound when you first put them on.
Yes, all the strings are broken in. I waited at least a week and sometimes up to a month before recording with the string sets on the violin. A new video was release last month with 17 sets of strings instead of the 9 in this one. You can see that almost a year has passed since this one because it took awhile before the strings for all of the new sets were settled in. Thank you for your comment. I hope the video was helpful
Great comparison, but what about Corelli sets? New crystal, and Cantiga, which is one of the best sets I have ever tried... and adopted. Very responsive, wonderful sound, powerful... and NOT EXPENSIVE compared to Eva pirazzi for exemple... Maybe the video can be updated with these sets?
+Guillaume Aymard Thank you, I just did a review of the Cantiga set. The written review is at the ViolinStrinReview website. I will get the youtube video up soon.
Larsen Regular will be included in the next collection (probably by the end of the year). For the time being you can find the separate audio at Larsen Original - Spotlight Review Audio Sample Thank you
Have you tried to "spring" other E strings so it gets the same effect as warchall amber? And i think you should have used some better sound recorder, like TASCAM or something that has better sound than your camera. I can hear difference, but it is not very clear...
I have not tried to "Spring" other E strings. Other strings might not be able to handle the tension that the spiral would cause. That might be something to test in the future, but there are not plans at the moment. I agree with the sound recorder. All of the newer videos are now recorded with a Zoom H4n. Since many of these were recorded in the summer of last year they still use the camera's built in mic. Hopefully the next collection will be clearer. Thank you for your input.
maybe a soft E, when springed, becomes medium (is there a verb for it? I'm brasilian and i dont know it...) I dont play violin anyway.. but if I ever use a high E on a 5 string cello, ill try this
Finally a string reviewer who actually plays the strings instead of talking for 20 minutes.
Are u talking about Allison? XD

@@Variksenlento yeah, I was thinking that. 🤔 💭
4:22 Dominant

Good comparison. The best comparison I've ever seen on youtube.
Thank you so much. I could hear the difference between each set of strings clearly. It has helped confirm which ones I want to try next.

I don’t think anyone uses dominant e. They always use pirastro gold label or similar
@@chriss6356 the pirastro gold it's killing me, too painfully too

The Infeld strings are a little harsh sounding.
As a non violin player classical guitarist I think this order best to least best: Larsen, Wachat, helicore, etc...
wow thanks for sharing - I have to say the obligato and obligato were my favorites and are in my shopping cart now.
Very helpful! Thank you!
Muchas gracias muy práctica tu manera de 'mostrar' las diferencias, de nuevo gracias. k.anton.argentina.
Infeld blue but no red?
The obligato are the best
Damn I wad trying to figure out what strings to get I think im going with the Obligato strings
Very interesting!

Check out the MEGA string comparison with 17 stings th-cam.com/video/FJr2z365ueo/w-d-xo.html
Quick link to Helicore should be 2:07, not 2:10, please.
i think obligato and lasen are the best...
Excelente podemos elegir, gracias por ayudar
Was liking the sound of the Evah Pirazzi (Pirastro) until I saw they were $90. Going with the warchal amber.
I liked the D'addario strings especially going up the string the kept their resonance. Second prob Obligato. Awesome video.
1. Obligato, 2. Evah, and 3. Larsen. But it doesn't matter because I can't play like that yet.

ViolinStringReview
Thanks! Good to know. I'll go listen to the updated one.
@@ViolinStringReviewwow, thank you for having the patience to do it this way!
warchal has a darker tone, just a very little bit muffled than Larsen
A great video

Hola bro, a mi me recomemdaron las Dominant pero me gustaron las Infeld, cual crees que sean mejoor. ?
Could you do a review of various student level strings? I think most of these are for advanced players no?
Warchal,Larsen Tzigane,Eva Pirazzi sounds dull on this violin...It would be good to hear also Larsen regular..
Anyway,Thank you for the review
Larsen Regular will be included in the next collection (probably by the end of the year). For the time being you can find the separate audio at Larsen Original - Spotlight Review Audio Sample
Thank you
Eudoxa, obligato, ...
Obligato seems safer/consistent from bottom to top. But, nothing is as sweet as a Pirazzi E string, especially the gold wrapped.
Thanks! This was helpful.
Best Pirastro cromcor, Thomastic Superflexibile cromatic,Nr 1 Forever.

Larsen has best tone. It's like a 3 way tie for second. Warchal is last place.
le mieux c'est de panacher les cordes, pour moi la meilleure en corde de sol c'est Eudoxa
Nice... thank you
Obligato
You sould have tried pirastro tonica
I will in the future. They recently changed their blend and from what I have heard it has greatly improved in tone.
Well I didn't hear your thoughts on the strings. Different strings sound different on different violins. Good video nun the less.
Warschal amber my favorite
Thanks na 😊
I don't hear 10 cents of difference between them.
pongespob Must not have a very good ear then.
Nah, you're just highly susceptible to suggestion. I guarantee you wouldn't wager $10k that you could tell the difference.
pongespob I have. I won.
You need to start taking your meds again like the doctor told you.
pongespob Ooh someone’s resorting to ad hominems. False ones might I add.
Mac d'marco Is that you
Evah pirazzi, Larsen 👍

Dominant only sounds good for the first 3 weeks lol after that it sounds bland and dead
Warchal and Thomastik the best strings
We can hear no difference . Only the player can
Headphones make a large difference. If you're listening on a phone, that Gist has standard speakers the compression eliminates hear.
Thanks, this was helpful.
