My workaround for the sanding issue known for Vallejo primers (and all water-based acrylic primers, as far as I know):
    1) Sand and fill seams and gaps as well as possible before priming.
    2) Lightly spray primer on areas of concern to reveal any imperfections.
    3) Repeat steps 1 and 2 until satisfactory.
    4) Remove any existing primer with alcohol.
    5) Prime entire subject and allow at least 24 hours to cure.
It's not ideal, but that's the tradeoff for working with a non-toxic primer.

Do you have to wear a mask when spraying (not to breathe in the fumes)?

To be honest I do not use a mask when working with normal Vallejo paints (I am using 3M pro mask when I work with enamel or Mr Color Paints), This primer has a different ingredients, so I would recommend a mask or a small pressure and good ventilation. All the best!

Very bad experience now, after two or three years on shelf... polyurethane matt final coat or satin will peal off with Tamiya tape... not to mention scratches... I had no problems with the new primers used in this video. But this primer on metal surface is awful... all the best! Dusan.

I have a large bottle of the white primer, but I have heard nothing but bad things about it. I won't use it now.

It is important to wipe the surface of the model with alcohol and be sure to wait for the primer dry thoroughly before sanding or second paint coat. I never had a problem with this primer. All the best!

Might be good for figures, however when you use it on a plane it will peal off with masking tape no matter how long you let it cure.

I've not had that experience at all. Are you thinning the primer?

Are you thin it with primer or directly from bottle?

    • @ScaleModelAircraft

Yes! But if You have warm climate or during the summer time, please add a few drops of thinner.
      All the best! Dusan.

this product is awesome but its a real pain in the ass because the primer drys to fast and doesn't allow to work easily....but it still beeing a good primer.

    is it non-toxic?

    • @ScaleModelAircraft
      @ScaleModelAircraft  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Quote from Vallejo 1. "All our colors are water-based, they do not contain toxic solvents. All our colors have obtained the ASTM D-4236 (USA) and the EN-71 (Europe)certifications, and all our raw materials comply with the REACH requirements."
2"This implies that the product may be irritating, but our new primers are now manufactured with a hybrid acrylic- polyurethane resin with a very low percentage of polyurethane, so that it is sufficient that they carry only the “Exclamation Point” instead of the St. Andrews Cross on the label."
      All the best! Dusan.

The claim that it can be used straight from the bottle is false. I tried some black the other day and it was so thick it clogged up my airbrush. It worked fine after I thinned it.

It depends on your climate and temperature, as far as I can tell.

Maiano is right temperature can affect it

I wholeheartedly agree with your comment from experience myself, straight from the bottle and within seconds my Iwata was clogged, which I add is kept immaculately cleaned. I've swapped over to Humbrol spray primer.
