Great to see this archive footage of my old friend and mentor Dave Taylor, aka 'The Wheelie King'. The man who invented the modern trail park and drove a million miles preaching Road Safety to schoolkids in a highly unusual but very effective way. Have just mentioned him in retrospective for the 200th issue of Trail Bike Magazine. Dave had an article in the first issue, shortly before he died in 1996. RIP.
We had a few trips to his trail park in southern England (Surrey or Sussex, Kent maybe?) in the early 80s. The XL125s on offer were pretty gutless, but great fun. Happy days. Oh, and of course Noaksy was fantastic.
@waynekerr5645 Dave's trail park was in Darenth, near Dartford, Kent. His family still own the plot of land. There are a few seconds of footage of it in this 5 minute tribute to him that we made a few years ago. th-cam.com/video/oXAMYmJ3hgQ/w-d-xo.html
I agree. I met John Noakes in 2002. Such a nice guy. Do you remember when he cried on live television when Shep died?? He lives in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
These days I enjoy taking younger riders to the hills i used to climb as a trials rider in the 70's. Today these sections are fenced off to motorcycles in the name of ' progress ". The reaction is one of disbelief, especially to those who have never ridden off road. An essential part of learning to ride a motorcycle safely
Dave Taylor wheelied around the TT course if memory serves. Great to see footage of him. John Noakes a good man too, i live in Ireland and didn't have the English channels used to go up to my pal to watch blue Peter
Brings back memories of riding a good mate's Bultaco way back. We (the bike and I) went down a steepish drop, into a stream and back up the other side. At this point, I got a bit messed up and the bike decided it wanted to pull a wheelie just as I decided to sit down to control things. We met in the middle! Really, you girls have no idea how much that hurts! It was several minutes before I dared to check if I was still all male! LOL
I used to live next door to some of Dave Taylor's family in Bexleyheath and used to visit his house in Barnehurst in the school holidays with his niece. I've never seen so many motorbikes in one garage. Also went to his trial park which if I remember right was Dartford way.
You couldn't miss his house.. used to have that big RV Transporter vehicle in the drive with Dave Taylor written across.. made me smile every time I passed it..
Daves not wearing the most practical trousers for a muddy field.i used to ride at his trail park in kent when i was 15 andc16.great bloke, loved teaching kids road safety.what a shame hedied so young.
Rubbish......John Noakes was a fantastic presenter, an icon, he was a hero for many thousands of young boys and girls in the 70's and 80's. How many of the stunts he's tried in his presenter role have you had the courage to undertake??
i know. i'm 41. Ageing sucks balls so hard. i'm going to try really hard to go to heaven - if there's a heaven then it doesn't matter about all the ageing & BS in this short life. Maybe John Noakes is there right now?
1:31 Typical BBC fakery. After pretending to be trying to start the bike, he turns the ignition key ON, and then Dave starts it easily…! Absolutely ridiculous.
RIP John... part of my growing up in more simpler times...

John Noakes Mr blue Peter sad day when we lost him a true daredevil now once again reunited with his beloved shep.....
Super hero John at it again, there was no stopping this man, how did he manage to live until 83 when the BBC tried to kill him every week 😂
Noakes was the best 70's kids TV presenter!
That brought back memories. I took a Honda TL125 to the Isle of Man in 1978 and pretty much rode the same track up to the top of Snaefell.
Noakes is a 'kin legend.

Those white trousers on Taylor.

Great to see a TL250 , I think they are better than the rider ! .
No not a ty250 but a Honda Rl250 or 350, based on the Honda motosport trailbike Engine. John Nokes was the best.
