○企画展「石井春　アズレージョと空間」
会期：2022年10月1日（土）～12月4日（日）
白地にブルーの彩色が鮮やかなポルトガルの装飾タイル「アズレージョ」。その美しさに魅せられてポルトガルに渡り、伝統技法を学んだ造形作家の石井春は、日本人ならではの感性を加えて、アズレージョを用いたオブジェをつくり続けています。古めかしい装飾タイルがいかにして空間を彩る現代アートになるのでしょうか。最新作を通してその秘密にせまります。

Beautiful work- I used to love the Portuguese tiling I saw around Macau, an old Portuguese colony.

To me the significance of azulejo is the intricate patterns, imageries, and colors. This lady seems to have taken away these unique characteristics with her minimalist approach. Her work looks cool and raw, and undoubtedly she invested time and effort into making them look and feel nice, though I would think the original is of higher artistic value.

What a coincidence seeing this video while I'm traveling through Portugal! Azulejos are beautiful, I was just wondering today if there were people in charge of recreating and replacing the old tiles that have fallen down over time.
