17:28 This cutscene made me really fall in love with this game and with Elster despite her essentially being a silent protagonist and not having much character. “I made a promise, I’ll do anything” It makes her come across as like the freaking doom guy when she puts on that armor. You can feel that nothing is gonna stop her from reaching Ariane . Great game man
@@foxshoot3138the elster in both PROMISE and MEMORY looks to be in the same position. All the elsters curled up outside look to be those from LEAVE and for secret ending i have no clue man.
@@rednuclearmc3856 The secret is sorta implied to the be the actual complete end of Signalis, so it would make sense there’s no equivalent for it, since once you obtain that ending, that’s it.
>not having much character Isn't that the exact moment where she actually gains/regains her character and personality? Instead of being a simple puppet replica, subservant to a higher will?
I was very happy to get this ending for my very first playthrough... my emotions were beyond my expectations. Signalis reminded me The Ring from Koji Suzuki when the main character finds Sadako's corpse in the end. The main character is safe from the curse, the nightmare is finished for him... but he feels no relief... only sadness for Sadako's fate. Finding Ariane to kill her and feels the absolute sadness and loneliness... mindblowing game.

I think this is the canon ending, every ending plays a part in a sequence, this ending is the end to the cycle, love the clever use of the red of elsters eye fading, like a metaphor for the red eye being and the ending of its nightmare
The ending of this one has you assume the position of the elster that you scavenge for parts earlier. It's just another part of the cycle. Or not, it's very up for interpretation
@@rafotrarran6888 I think it's more likely that that scene comes from the ending where elster is unable to kill ariane, showing elster lying beside a warped mass of flesh
I like that the ending music keeps playing even after both Elster and Ariane die, to remind you that no one will know their story and they would forever drift in the endless space that is now their forever grave, or crash on a planet that no living being will ever step foot on for a million years. (Unless Ariane’s bioresonance powers actually managed to reach the system, then maybe at least they will be remember in some way of form (I’m coping)
I really enjoyed Signalis and got "Promise" ending. Its such a smart game with gorgeous art and music. Learning story of relationship of Elster and Ariane and seeing Elster finally fulfilling her part of the promise to Ariane is... very sad, but also beautiful at the same
This game has style you very rarely see and feel in a game. Plenty of games have good art styles, but rarely can you feel a games style like I felt from Signalis. It wasn't just a game, it was an experience. 10/10 (other than the awful inventory management)
I totally agree. I've played a huge amount of games and the feeling I had playing this game was very strange. The immersion in the story was extraordinary. It was really well done art.
you can tell how much they care, just by the fact that they list several books, movies, directors and even classical songs in the 'special thanks' section of the credits. normally people just put thier mom's there.
@@aaronatkinson177 Yeah, I feel that the limited inventory system was underappreciated. In the end, it's not a happy ending, nor a bad one, given the circumstances. Getting to die together with the love of your life and getting to be the one thing that they needed isn't something most people will get.
15:09 "Its our 3000 anniversary, we are gonna receive new briefing later" me on second playthrough knowing what Phase III is about trying to hold tears (I failed)
I used to think a happy ending was pretty much necessary for a good story. This game proves that idea wrong. I don’t even think it has a complete and coherent plot, but its still a hell of one.
I don't think this is the last ending or good, for me this is just another iteration (of the countless failures before), but this is the iteration before Memory, where she gets the "parts" to repair herself.
Its actually most likely memory is where Elster gets the white and blue parts, Promise ending is likely the true and best ending you could get considering Ariane is the source of this twisted looping hell dream and killing her finally puts a stop to it (while also fulfilling her promise since she wants to die obv)
This was probably the second most gut wrenching ending for me as despite being the best possible ending as everything finally ends I instantly turned to the other endings with the hope that they will be better yet all that was left for me was the intentional blank space that was my optimism for a brighter ending and it was truly poetic how i got the one where ariane cannot remember lstr then the one where lster give up and finally the artifact ending its as if the game itself was telling me “(2)so what, u wanted ariane to survive well making her oblivious to the suffering would allow her to live on? Thats wat u think? Did u forget lstr, the cancer, the promise? (3) Oh so u think doing what adlr told u would help? prolonging this abomination of an existence just so these people could survive another day? This place is already fucked up beyond repair u think a couple more cycles would help? (4)congrats u self centered selfish prick u wanted the happy ending ur willing to put all that effort into creating an illusion of happiness in this nightmare, what will u do now dance until the cycle reset and do it all over again? Dont u feel bad for those who u trampled over endlessly for this illusion, like faulk ur ok with putting her through that torture again?”
I don't know what really happened in this game. I don't know what was real, what was a vision and what was a dream. I don't even know who's dreams or visions it could have been. All I know is that Elster remembered her promise, and her love for Arianne.

For better, for worse. She's determined. She'll see it through to the end.

I cant belive that this was a game about love, not an horror game
This game is the definition of "Love makes you do some crazy things"

Between this game and Omori, indie developers really know how to make an emotionally compelling experience.
GOD! Watching this and stitching all the pieces together is one hell of an experience!
The devs: -how depressed do you want to be?
Me: -YES.

First time playing: oh my god this is scary
After knowing the lore : music to my ears
And to think this is the good/true end...
Bittersweet in a way. They were both dying from radiation poisoning...

Sounds to me just like a highly compressed version of earlier song, Serenade. idk

What is the song at 22:09 please someone
Its called "Promise" in the Signalis OST.
It's a remix of Chopin's Raindrops. It's called "The Promise" on the OST but, it's based on Raindrop Prelude (Op. 28 No. 15).
Im depressed now
call me weird, but I think the horror in this is shockingly Silent Hill-esq
As far as I'm aware, it's very much inspired by Silent Hill, especially Nowhere.

This is ghost in the shell 1995 reference. Her will to get in overpowered her body limits.
