In Devon lies loads of old buses awaiting to be scrapped or parts used for other vehicles
    this was a permission visit
Exploring the dilapidated ruins of civilisation, abandoned buildings, creepy theme parks, military bases, and underground vaults containing the remnants of a by gone era.

In the mid 80s, there used to be places like closed down army bases, railway testing stations bankrupted factories, whole streets of compulsory purchased houses....just left sometimes fully furnished, often undiscovered for a few years, this was our idea of heaven!!!!, we had large storage yards where police stored impounded vehicles, and just forgot about them!!!

They were probably withdrawn out of service due to not being DDA compliant, they have step entrances. But good vehicles for preserving.

Ahh so that’s where 38004 ended up .
I had heard that it was being scrapped .
I am a Weston Super Mare area lad and I remember this vehicle brand new as my dad worked for Badgerline and it was a part of a big fleet revamp .
    It’s original fleet number was 5704 .
    The fleet went from 5700 - D700 GHY to 5711- D711 GHY .
I had many a free trip on those buses before they were sent West & converted to open toppers .
5704 was a bit of a experiment vehicle in its time at WSM depot ..
It was the only double deck Volvo in the fleet to have Volvo front wheel nut Crome trims what looked nice.
It was the first to be fitted with wheel arch brushes to reduce the spray they produced on the wet roads while driving .
It also had hat I could call ram air deflectors , They were Strange and mounted on the front of the vehicle at a angle probably to reduce the amount of air while driving on the front of the vehicle and send it down the body sides .

@@Urbanexboi I bet so , It’s even tougher when there are vehicles that you recognize by either fleet number and : or registration number.
If you look back at “ Badgerline “ videos on TH-cam you will see it’s sisters in service long before conversation to a open topper & withdrawal were ever considered.
I must of had over a 1000 trips on 5704 and it’s sisters before they headed to life further west in Cornwall.

@@Urbanexboi a word to the wise . Don't publicise where these are being stored . The reason i say this is , i presume this is private land . A friend of mine owns and has rebuilt 3 buses and a fire engine over the last 20 years
He got evicted from his first workshop he was renting on a farm because word got out as to where it was located and the farmer that rented the workshop to my friend was fed up with the amount of bus enthusiasts trespassing on his working farm . My friend was livid as not only did he have to find a new indoor storage shed for 4 vehicles that he could afford , he also had to move tools, parts and other sundries once he found that place. I don't know if these are fit for preservation or being stored prior to a trip to the scrapyard . If none of these are fit for preservation they could be used as parts donors for other buses .

@@Urbanexboi just had a look. I don't think that ex Dublin Bus olympian can be restored. Depends on how long it has been stored outside and the degree that outside storage has effected the bodywork and engine, if it has its engine. The livery on it is very old, it was known as Dublin Bus core livery . Off the top of my head the last of the Leyland Olympians (known as the RH Class) were sold on by Dublin Bus cira 2006. So it likely to have been in England since that time if not earlier. I wonder how long it's been on that runway for too.

Am disgusted to see these places with perfectly good vehicles that bus companies just completely reject and throw away! Privatization bus companies make me sick! Arriva, Stagecoach, Go Northeast and the rest of the horrid tribe companies around the country have no regard whats so ever. All the privatized companies should all be re regulated back the way they were. Just because of my disgust of them profit making and not putting the customer first. Very demoralizing!
