    What role do you think testosterone replacement has played for you over the last decade?

      Good question - I'll give you the long winded answer and pin it, because a) I have a spare five minutes and b) I have received at least 20 direct messages from people, via this video, suggesting it is all nonsense because of testosterone. So hopefully my answer here will stop those complete giblets annoying me 😂
      So the simple answer is, not as much as you'd think. But I'm not a great example of what testosterone replacement therapy can do because I use it at a very low level for, a quite specific, mental health requirement.
      There are many physiological benefits that it could offer that I simply don't bother taking advantage of. For example, I don't train to increase muscle mass significantly (I have been the same 100 kg for years, before, and after TRT) I also don't train, despite what Instagram looks like, anywhere near to the level where the recovery benefits of TRT would help. As example, I have probably worked out about five times during December. 😂 I think I could manage that naturally!
      What it does do for me, is provide consistent mental clarity and removes any of the "depression like" symptoms I was suffering from a couple of years ago. In simple terms, it makes me feel really positive and that filters into everything else.
      The reason I say it didn't make a huge difference over the last decade is that I achieved the vast majority of what I regard as significant improvements, before I began TRT in my late 40s. So long before then I had got myself from being obese to running sub 20 minute 5Ks, got myself out of a job I hated and become a TH-camr, got myself into an amazing relationship with my now wife. So the things that really transformed me between 40 and 50 are the things covered in this video. Starting TRT was really just the icing on the cake to make me feel good having arrived at where I wanted to be. It didn't get me here. Had I started it sooner - could I have got here quicker? Maybe. I don't know!
      I should also point out, the other reason I don't discuss it in videos * is that I am trying to make these entertaining and appealing and motivating to as many people as possible. The things I discussed in this video could be taken by many people, male or female, or any age and incorporated into their own situation. The niche medical requirements of a 40+ man don't really do that!
      This is not a channel for people in an identical situation to me.
      * that said, I have discussed it, and have an entire playlist on the channel dedicated to it - so it is certainly not hidden.
      I hope that answers the question. I suppose a shortened version of my answer would be - if you are a middle-aged man suffering from depression like symptoms, it might be worth getting your hormone levels checked. For anybody else, watch my videos, hopefully find them entertaining and motivating and get on with your own life, your way! Unfortunately, what happens quite often now is that I will get messages from people saying my suggestion that you can improve your situation, whatever it may be, is invalid because I am on TRT..... Which is quite simply weak people desperately looking for any excuse why they can't fix their own situation. I know this because I also get messages from 70 year old grandma is telling me they are going for a fast walk having watched my video and they never mention TRT so it seems some people can better themselves without looking for excuses!
      At some stage I will do a video on the topic in isolation, but this will have to do for now 👍 In short, steroids are a HUGE problem and a LOT of people using TRT and making the waters murkey and diluting whatever core message they say they are promoting. I'm not one of them though.

      @@MarkLewisfitnessI’m glad you pinned this response, I’ve messaged you previously about TRT as I have just started treatment myself.
      I identified similar symptoms such as low mood, feeling worthless and lack of motivation to do anything. I’m not a lazy person.
      My personal belief is that people with influence need to talk openly about TRT, as far too many people suffer in silence, or get prescribed antidepressants when perhaps they’re not necessary. The only way to change the stigma around TRT is through education. You’re, right, you might have achieved everything you have without it, or it might have been “The catalyst for change” 😉 . You still have to put the hard work in, as you have, but I certainly feel that TRT could a least help level the playing field if all your efforts to improve are being handicapped by clinically low testosterone levels.

      @@jamesgalbraith5011 I agree with everything you said - the problem is to talk about it, even to the extent I do, is problematic. I get EVERY day abusive DM's, emails, etc from people saying I shouldn't be giving out any advice on ANYthing because I'm on steroids so it's all invalid. I have the comments section of my TH-cam set up to hold any mention if TRT so I can check its a sensible comment before it goes public - as happened with the original comment here (and your response) - as an example, this video has had at least 50 comments I have just deleted as they are pointless abuse. Annoying to say the least!

      Haha, I pray I can say the same when I'm 50 in a couple of years! I'm starting in kind of the place you were at when 40! Need to try to get a successful spine op somehow on NHS, if I can get one and it works this time having had a failed one 5 years ago privately, then I'm gonna train my arse off until I'm in my 90s! Even got a New home gym in boxes ready to assemble if I can get back fixed!

      I had a pretty rough and underdeveloped childhood. I came of age around 32 and I've been chasing those roughly 15 years of misuse. I was very heavy and started getting into fitness in my mid-30s. Going into 40 strong with a new career and some plans. I tell all of my friends that I'm going to be that 50-year-old winning local 10ks, not that 50-year-old in the emergency department. I was in the army and I think at 25 my best 2-mile was a 14min. Now I can run a 10k at that pace in my late 30s with a lot of room to improve. Didn't know about zone 2 until a few months ago; what a difference.

    Dude you have no idea what amazing timing your video has for me. I'm 39 years old and, just like in your case, my company will go bankrupt in January, yesterday I even wondered what it's like to work at MacDonalds :) The only advantage of working hard over the last few years is that I saved a lot of money for a rainy day, but I can still tell you that the money does not bring happiness. To de-stress, I have been running for half a year and working hard on my fitness, but still I feel lonely and abandoned by everyone. I thought that at such an age a person no longer had a chance to find happiness or a new path in life, but thanks to experienced people like you, I still have hope for better times :) Thank you for that video. Made my day.

      Good luck moving forward. This time last year I was made redundant after a successful career in a company. Luckily like you I’d built up a buffer so had a bit of time to reflect and consider.
      I’ve a great job in a good company now and much happier than before so it will get better.
      I’ve always focused on “me”, which as Mark states can be seen as selfish.
      All of the men on my dad’s side of the family died before they were 53. I’m 55 now and feel great. Family are still a high priority but I have to spend some on me as I’m useless to them if I’m not around for them.

    I’m 51 smoked, binge drank ate the worse diet throughout my teens, twenties and thirties had cancer by 41 and I’m now fitter than I was for 3 decades. So I can relate to what you are saying 👍😃

    Quick summary:
    - “Better is always better”: Improving yourself in whatever ways you can will improve your future, and that’s a good thing.
    - “Stress isn’t always stress”: Not all stressors are the same-some are life-threatening and others are more manufactured (i.e. bills). Knowing the difference, you can stress less about manufactured stressors and focus more on the solution right away.
    - “Selfish isn’t always bad”: Prioritizing yourself most of the time is perfectly healthy and makes you ready to step up to help others when necessary. And because people are usually focused on themselves anyway, they probably won’t notice you not always being there for them.
    - “Life is short”: Use aging as a boost of urgency to take productive actions.
    - “Age, who cares”: Growing older should be embraced because, assuming you’re investing in yourself, each year can bring more and more achievements.

    Took up boxing at 68 to stay in shape. Feet no longer could take the pounding of running. I have my third amateur fight next month in Las Vegas at 73. Nothing has ever kept me in shape as much as boxing!!! Persistence and consistency can take you almost anywhere.

    Dear Mark, I want to take this opportunity to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all the inspiration you've given me. I'm that 'little old lady' (61) in America who got her butt off the couch last January, and now runs a 5K 2-3 times a week. I feel GREAT, and all my health stats are very healthy. I see others my age groan and grumble and struggle to get out of their chair - while I'm bouncing around. And it is, in a great part, thanks to you.     Hi Mark, I turned 50 this year and you really struck a chord with me when you said that you're massively excited to see how long you can remain in ok condition. This is the reminder I needed when I "only" finished 2nd in my age group at my Parkrun this morning and have built up to squatting with 60kg this year ( I weigh 55kg). Thank you for being an inspiration to this 50 year old woman as well as all the men 🙂

    For those that are approaching their 50’s or starting them, I took control of my health on my 50th birthday. I adjusted my diet and my calories, started walking more. (Got to 10k a day) but didn’t rush anything. Started losing weight slowly and a year later got to the thinnest I had ever been. I realized I was too thin and my fitness was not as good as it could be. Got into the gym and started on lifting weights and doing cardio. (Thanks to coach Greg and now Mark for giving me a reason to push a little harder when I go) Now I am the fittest I have ever been. It’s never to late to look after yourself. Thanks for the video Mark.

    Mark, I know you don't know me and I don't know you. But, despite that, I have watched many of your videos (and subscribed), and just want to say how inspiring you are and also how sincerely pleased I am for you that you turned your life around.
    It is very reassuring to see an ordinary chap make such extraordinary changes. I know there are many reasons why people find these changes extremely difficult to make - ingrained behaviours stemming from childhood issues perhaps. But to have a constant source of inspiration and a regular reminder that it is possible cannot be undervalued.
    I turned 50 this year and am kinda where you were at at 40. I'm trying to change, but in the meantime I am very grateful to you and hope you will continue.

    I'm 43 and recently single. No kids, but I actually really want to start a family. Feel often like I missed the boat and wasted a lot of time. But it's motivating to see things can turn around even when you're in your 40s (or later). I'm already in better shape than I was in my 20s but there's still a lot I can improve. I'm planning some solo trips for next year too and just generally trying out new things more lately (started doing a Spanish class, learning rock climbing). But I'm still struggling with my motivation and mindset. Videos like this help a lot!

    Turn 50 this month. I remember at 42 thinking I was old as I was a bit stiff.. started training again, and now, at 49, I'm the fittest ever in my life.
    I also love the fact that I'm the oldest but fittest member of a kickboxing club full of world champions in their teens and 20s.

    43 years old, and have lost 90 pounds in the past 24 months. I went from 260 to 165lbs. Now back in school, training everyday and working hard everyday to fix my health and take care of my family. BLESSINGS👍🏾💪🏿

      Way to go! I´m also 43, was lazy until my mid 30s. Then I started running and working out. 2 years ago I learned stuff like climbing a robe to finish obstacle races. 3 months ago I finished my first marathon. I can do mountain hikes with an altitude difference of 2200 m. The key is to start somewhere.

      Dude duuuude please I was homeless and defrauded and penniless on my 45th birthday stuck on Guernsey island with no where to go no home no family and not yet known no money what's so ever... days later I ws sleeping on a bed dragged in from outside in a child's box bedroom in a council flat sharing it with coke heads... then I crushed 3 fingers at a factory job... surgery nerv damage.... did I cry DID I yeeet myself NO I cardioid until I was sick I took 1 hour long hot baths I took cold showers I put ished my fingers until they recovered I went on every fre training course the dole office had... I got a job a flat 1 Yr later I was 20k up and my flat was redecorated and top spec pc surround sound oled screen. I sued for the hand got 70k. I saved another 20k and during this whole time I punished my body with endless work outs NO ONE IS GOING TO HELP YOU NO ONE LOVES YOU ALL WOMEN ARE EVIL LIARS BY NATURE WALK AWAY AND BUILD A BEAST IM 51 IN A OFFICE RIGHT NOW ON NIGHT SHIFT TOTALLY ALONE stack ing cash....with a i20n hot hatch outside the office window,, with a screw driver Ed scratched door because my nabours are jealous losers with low testie ... did I get mad no I booked in the smart repairer and leathered the price black and blue... there is no society only a society go mgtow get mad and build something stop simping stop self doubting I wa cycling to nightshifts in the country on a old bike with a knocking crank for q2 months that crank knocking that annoying sound drove me on.... I will be stronger I will be richer I will defy the aging process I will reverse my biological age I will stay away from society I will not date or screw I will not s one drink or other.. 45th birthday may 20th 2017 I was standing on Guernsey island. No where to go homeless...best thing that ever happened to me

    This channel is a big inspiration for me. I was in great shape in my early twenties, but life and some injuries got me very out of shape. I'm back on track and looking forward to being in better shape in my forties than my thirties!

    Thank you for this and sharing! Especially the stress part! I have just come back to work, of which I am inexperienced in and need to learn an awful lot, I find the stress has already immediately returned because of the lack of knowledge but there is a clear path to improve this. I have set myself a goal this year to be less stressed and worried about work as it does impact my personal life and how I feel in the evenings with my wife - thankfully she is amazing and helps me immensely 🙏🙏🙏🙏

    I just turned 60 in December-and I had an opportunity to go Underground Cave ZipLining last week… I did it!!! It was crazy, scary, snd fun… I’m looking forward to doing it again next year…. Mark- you are a great inspiration 🎉😊

    I'm 40 now, and starting to feel fitter than ever. Been working incredibly hard at running for 18M now. 5K time down from 23 to 18:38. Got some big goals for 2024. Longer term I want an England masters vest for some distance in running. I've told no one about that, but I'm determined to make it happen.

    Great video as always. Happy New Year to you. I turned 60 in 2023 and age certainly makes it all a constant challenge. As you say keeping in shape is easier in your 20 and 30’s. I ignore looking at gains and pb now as there is little point. I focus on my health and fitness and ensure I consistently train. I still surprise myself from time to time as an old fella when I have a strong session. I am looking forward to the Mark Lewis turning 60 vid and the many in the interim.

    Thanks for the content this year, Mark. I'm turning 48 in a few weeks and I don't think I'd ever been more aware of age and mortality than the last few months. I'm not sure why this is - but your messaging about embracing 40/50/60+ has been extremely reassuring.     Great video Mark and Merry Christmas! From a 55 yr old man that is dropping weight, down from 6'4" and 248lbs to 231 today in almost 3 months, I am happy to say, I am getting myself fit again. Going for 205lbs and a bicycle riders physique, being that is what I am doing. You look around in the US and see so many people so overweight at very young ages and wonder how they are going to be when/IF they get my age. We really need to as a world, start eating better and exercising more. Glad to see you out there motivating others to do like you did.

    Reading the comments after watching this video is amazing.
    Well done Mark on what you've done over the past few years. And happy belated birthday.
    I turned 50 in October 2022. I celebrated by running the Beachy Head marathon. Not my fastest time but I completed it (not bad for a hilly trail marathon). I've done a lot of things since then, like learning to scuba dive, going paragliding or riding a jet ski, which I never thought possible. OK, I'm not in peak physical shape (about a stone heavier than I want to be) but I am running a lot of miles, regularly - including two or three marathons a year - so I am working on that. I do strive to become faster and I will get there. I'm crap at staying motivated but that will change as I have plans in place (such as finding an accountability buddy, starting with a trainer, and so-on).
    Since I found your videos, I've found them to be very inspiring. Thank you.

    Thanks Mark, this is really great timing for me a 6'4 110kg 45 yr old. My PARKRUN is getting average and I need to be above average too. Life has to change now.

    hey mark I'm 29 and I also turned my life around thanks to your story, I know 29 is "early" but god damn it feels good to have 6 pack abs, run a sub 20 minute 5k and deadlift >250 pounds. Thank you so much for your channel and your inspiration. Even though it's a 1 way street I still get inspiration from you because you're so much more normal than anybody else. You don't seem special you don't have freak genetics, you didn't train since you were 5, but you still worked hard and got better, now that I'm 29 and working hard myself I feel the dedication paying off and I won't stop until I die

    All my life I’ve been trying to be more self centred. At 40 I’m finally. Finding the balls to say no, cut ties etc. I am no.1 priority, then I am able to take care of my family more.

    Great truthful video Mark! I got divorced at 50, devastated. Rediscovered fitness at 51, now at 54, this year I'm running the London marathon and am competing in Hyrox doubles with my girlfriend. "Even relics have a purpose" priceless" 😂😂 from one relic to another, merry Christmas!

    Loved this video. About to turn 40 and recently taken up running. I know I'll never compete with the twenty somethings, but i liked how you spoke about being the best you can be for your age. I'm currently at a 21.06 5k time after 2 months of running, so excited to see what can be achieved as i continue.

    I’m a couple of years older than you, and have a similar outlook, I try and do everything a bit better than average, and all the little improvements add up. Next year I intend to up my efforts by 10%, and reap further benefits.

    This is very encouraging. I turned 35 yesterday and I started thinking “ Wow, I’m startin to get up there”. That being said my shit together. Seeing this make me realize how much time I can take advantage of in the next coming 15 years. Thanks for the inspiration ✊🏾

      35 is a kid...I am 58, play hockey, work out, and plan on expanding my business. The forties and early fifties were rough. Kids in school, homework, kids activities, daily chores, personal work, parents dying...after you get the kids through college, life pressure starts to ease a bit. The middle years are rough, you are in the trenches raising a family. That's just how it is. I would say hang in there in mid life. Be patient, don't have unrealistic expectations. Just stay steady. You will have a Renaissance in your life and it's wonderful

    Hey Mark. I am a little late to the party on this one. So, Happy New Year!
    This video is spot on. While I was never in your shape at 40, I was much,much fitter than you. At 50 my priorities changed. I started lifting weights regularly for the first time. Aside from a dumb thing that I do here and there to relive my old fitness, lifting is changing my life for the better.
    So to all you old dudes and dudettes, it's not to late to start. No, you don't have to lift,run race, etc. just start being active if you are not. Whatever you do, you will be 100% better.
    BTW, the dumb thing this year.... Continuation of my sub 6 min mile run. Did not want to break a 22 year old streak. So I jumped on a treadmill without training and 20 pounds overweight. Ran 0.98 miles before I pulled my hamstring. Well, with the warm up right prior to the run attempt I did cover a mile in 5:50. Does that still count?

    Great video Mark. I’m just about to turn 45. And really resonate with this. One thing that I plan to work towards is retesting myself against the army fitness test again. To see what my fitness level is against the age group. This is the Australian Army test. Would like to see you do the Army basic fitness test to see what your fitness is against the age bracket. I turn 50 in 2024 and whilst that fact used to plague my thoughts as I approached the half century, I now look at this milestone as an opportunity to challenge social norms, and debunk ageist stereotypes.
