@DonutOperator. When officers get injured on the job, you sometimes do giveaways or such to help support the officers and the families. Anything for this guy?
I considered getting raycons when they sponsored graystillplays, and then I saw the price even with the discounts.......yeah I settled on a cheaper you good pair of earbuds
I’m a native English speaker. I’ve been driving for 45 years. I still have no idea what the cop was trying to say about the way they made the turn and why he was getting a ticket.
Honestly I think the old man understood english better than the cop and was trying to tell the cop what happened, however the cop kept shutting him down trying to force his incorrect explanation. The problem is, it wasn't a u-turn, the police officer kept misspeaking which would have confused anyone let alone a non-native english speaker. The old guy was coming from a minor street and turning left onto a major street without a stoplight. However another car was in front of the old guy and had pulled into the median to wait to complete the turn left while the old man was still on the minor street. The old man, instead of waiting for the first car to turn left, pulled across the first part of the road side by side from the first driver who was still in the median waiting to turn left. So now you have two cars sitting in the median next to each other waiting to complete the left turn. At least that is what I gathered from the video. The cop completely described that situation in the most fubar way possible and then the lack of communication lead to frustration from both sides.
Not defending the cop but I think the cop was saying when he made the u turn (let's say a 3 lane road for conversation sake) there was a car in the far right lane and when he turned into the middle right next to the other car instead taking the far left lane....BULLSHIT essentially but I do get what he's saying we have that in fl as well. I always say with stuff like this most cops won't trip...unless u run across a cop that just walked in on his wife with the tennis coach and then has to go to work. As far as this cop I think he's just a POS and deserves everything that's coming his way AND MORE

Good. I'd like the next story about that officer to be exactly what Donut said: Badge taken and actual criminal charges filed against him. BUUTTTT we all know how it'll go. Even in clear cases like this, the police union will fight for his job and his qualified immunity and nothing will happen more than being pressured to resign and getting a job at another police department. Police aren't nearly the problem many people make them out to be, but the police unions sure are.
If a 6’4 250 pound man in his 30s poked me in the chest and was acting aggressive that could be an appropriate response.. this was an elderly 120 pound man frustrated because the officer wouldn’t hear him out because of a language barrier. That cop has to be fired minimum
Sgt. Joseph Gibson, 28, was charged in Oklahoma County with one count of aggravated assault and battery in connection with the Oct. 27 dispute. Body-worn camera video released by police shows Gibson throwing Lich Vu to the ground after Vu touched Gibson during an argument following a non-injury traffic accident.
Felony assault my ass. That was an intentional attack. He has hand to hand combat skills which means he’s been trained with LETHAL FORCE IN HAND TO HAND. The only thing more grievous than this would be if he did this to a four year old. BOTH UNABLE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES
Ooooh man...that CCTV footage of the takedown is BRUTAL. He slammed that old man's head into the asphalt, that was wayyyyy outta pocket for the circumstances, wtf
Yes and if it wouldn't have been for the CCTV he might have gotten away with it ,because of course his body cam ;-) wasn't working properly, didn't film what was happening, accidentally got knocked on the ground WHATEVER. Oh I was confused that was a different case that was just like this one. I thought it was this Asian man. But the one I remember was a different elderly man. sorry
A cop got found guilty for manslaughter for dropping a 90yo woman with a taser here in Australia... They tried to argue it was justified but the body cam did them in.
Bro is like 2.5x bigger than the old man! If you wanna cuff him (which to me as an LEO still felt unnecessary), that's fine, just command the old man to put his hands behind his back and voila, you're not in "DANGER" of "SERIOUS BODILY HARM" from A LIGHT TAP AND A SHUSH anymore! Like, even if you wanted to cuff him on the ground bc puts you at the most dominant position, he could've at least guided the man to the ground, not slammed him like this is f'ing Hollywood or something. 😒 Hope the man is able to recover with the least amount of lasting damage possible!! 😮💨
I’m a state trooper. The post I work is a major metropolitan area with 4 separate interstates that converge. I’ve worked more crashes than I can count. I’ve worked plenty of crashes with frustrated and angry drivers. But never once have had to go hands on or use force. All because I was able to calm them down and explain why they’re getting cited. Even with language barriers. Crashes on the shoulder of an active interstate, with totaled vehicles. The most stressful environment you can imagine. If this guy can’t handle a minor fender bender, in a parking lot. Then he shouldn’t be a cop.
as a retired leo, there was NO REASON to do this. I have never seen the like. Even if you were going to arrest this man, HE'S A OLD MAN!! No need at all to slam him down like that. That cop should be fired, and i hope the man sues and wins.
What if that man, who resisted arrest, was a 30-year old boxer with all muscles? Now police have to police themselves, regarding who they require to submit to arrest. Police cannot arrest old men. Can police arrest old women? And what is the age cut-off for police use of force. If I push a police officer in the chest... like the old man did, can I get rich by suing his ass off? Frail old men, with crap language skills, should not resist arrest. He played hot shot and got butt hurt.
He won't be fired 😋. Seems like after being called out for their tyrannical bs the police have decide to double down on said bs. That's why you've got police officers playing the 'gun gun gun' game with vulnerable old men. His supervisor probably sends them out onto the beat with a good ole fashion 'go get em boys... Ye Haw' 🤪!!
"It is very disappointing to see a police officer face felony charges for actions taken in good faith while serving in the line of duty," Nelson said in a statement. "Sgt. Gibson followed his de-escalation training and protocol when assaulted." - Mark Nelson This got needs to be voted out. He’s the president of OCFOO and said the officer handled the situation with professionalism and care and followed proper deescalation protocol.
Oh FFS seriously? How is this the state of policing in the US? These people take no pride in their work, they don't care about the job, they just want to feel like big men. Shameful
Wow I understand trying to protect your officer; however, good luck with this one. No cop I know would beat and old man. Seriously got something wrong with him to not see slamming and elderly man on his head for poking his chest.
@@dakota9821 Cops escalate over lesser things all the time. The takedown wasn’t that brutal. The difference here is that the old man’s body couldn’t take the force. Which is why you shouldn’t be throwing old men to the ground. This cop sounds young and stupidly thought he should do the same thing he would do to a fleeing gang member, to this old man.
As someone whos dad recently had similar injuries from an accident. At that age that changes you permanently. My dad has never been the same since his head injury. I can’t imagine it being because of a cop. That’s so unfair.
My dad fell and hit his head on the ground and developed trigeminal neuralgia which is also commonly referred to as the "suicide disease." He deals with extreme pain years beyond the injury. He was only 56 when this happened. This cop slammed this man's into the ground. I hope that the poor man is ok. As a resident of Oklahoma city, I hope I never run into this cop
Came here to say the same. I'm grateful that man got medical care; my dad suffered from a hematoma and ended up dying months later after struggling, surgeries, losing basic motor function, then deteriorating in a nursing home. I couldn't even be there because he told the family not to contact me. (My family situation is fucked on both sides, but I won't go into that). I hope this guy gets to see his family again.
Speaking from experience, if you have access to psychedelic medicine like psilocybin, that can be a life changing treatment to repair brain injury. Uncle Sam thinks it's good enough for veterans with TBI. It's good enough for me.
@@r3tr0sp3ct3r Well when he said he didn't make a U-turn, the cop said something totally different, as if he agreed, so no. Watch again starting at 5:14.

Thank you for covering this. My dad is a former Oklahoma City Police officer, and he goes to church with the poor little old man. That is a very sad situation.
Saying "a very sad situation" is about the most sanitized interpretation one can arrive at. If your dad is ex OCP I hope he's talking among his friends and saying that cop needs to be 100% fired AND charged. Period. Will the cops speak out against their own in Oklahoma City? I doubt it.
@@OceanofMayait is a very sad situation. People like you are just ridiculous. Why don’t you get off your self righteous ass and do something about it? The only thing you can do is make shitty comments anonymously like the coward you are.
Absolutely sickening! I’m a veteran Police Officer having served in a large metropolitan area as well as a smaller community. I have NEVER seen such a disturbing and disgusting display of service. I pray the elderly man has a full recovery, and the idiot involved is held accountable appropriately. Good grief man! Really?!
At that age with a brain bleed and a broken neck he's not making a full recovery no matter how much you pray. That's sticking with him for the rest of his life.
The old man's ego was threatened. The old man picked the fight with the officer. How did you miss that? At what age can we tell police to get f-ed after we cause an auto accident? Is that age 50? Or 60? Or 70? And what about 70-year old Karate Instructors who fight with police? What if that old man had hit your car and refused to sign the ticket to acknowledge financial repsonsibility. Then your liability only insured car would be totalled and you would be taking the subway and getting beat up by drug addicts. Powerless men hate police cuz you resent their power.
Happens way more than ppl think no such thing as a good apple in a batch of bad apples. If the good ones say anything they get retaliated against so they sit back and let it happen which makes them the same
This is disgusting. I’ve already spoken to over a dozen officers who work there since this incident occurred and they’re doing everything they can to get him fired and his certification revoked. I hope it goes up the chain of command. As of now, he’s still suspended without pay.
Thank you. I tagged OKCPD's X-account. I looked through their timeline and couldn't find this incident. Glad to hear that they're taking this seriously. Oklahoma typically has pretty good law enforcement, this kind of thing is a stain on our state.

You really do need more of these types of videos. The police state has never had a worse reputation, and your voice will get taken more seriously than a million of mine. Great work
I'm an asian immigrant from Japan, but born in Korea, so I speak both languages. I'm a conservation officer so maybe my opinion doesn't matter, but in cases of language barriers, instead of getting pissed and just pulling my firearm and arresting them, it's a simple pull out google translate and try to explain it to them, or contact a person in their family who can translate it for me. Even if it does escalate to what it did, I'm not slamming them, it's a simple talk to them, de-escalate, and hopefully get them to sign it.
It's really quite simple. If they speak any English at all, but it's limited, like in this instance, you just use simple language. For explaining the ticket, for example, I'd say something like "You are signing that you will go to court for this. It does not mean you did anything wrong." If they don't speak any English at all, then yes, Google translate or, like Donut said, getting a family member on the phone is your best call
To be honest, and with the caveat that we are only seeing short clips as opposed to the unedited entirety of the incident, the cop seems to have only escalated during the interaction. It can be very frustrating trying to communicate across language barriers but that is where patience and calmness are vital.
As a LEO and a former LEO in OK, this absolutely disgusts me! This officer abuses his power and authority in this situation. Yes OK has a law stating if a driver refuses to sign a citation, they COULD be arrested and taken to jail. The same goes for having an expired tag, expired registration, or an expired license. Usually, that would be a department policy as to whether they take someone to jail for that. The officer could have written refused to sign, given him the citation, and left it to the court to figure out. As for the takedown, if one was warranted, he could have just done a simple circular sweep (arm grab and outside foot draws a C while keeping an individual off balance and slowly goes to the ground) and guided the man down. Not much force is used with this move. I would not have used any force. The man clearly isn't a threat. It would be easy enough to just place his hands behind his back and put the cuffs on. He did say he would go to jail. I hope the DA charges this officer for abuse of power, excessive force, abuse of the elderly, assault with great bodily harm, and whatever else they can find. The City will be paying out for sure.
@ who’s address..? Public servants have no right as you sacrifice that to serve the public. A private citizen however has that right to conceal information..
I only speak English and a cop saying "either take care of it in court....or take care of it out of court" doesnt give me enough information to know what he's trying to tell me
No joke. If I had never had a ticket before I would have no idea what that meant. On my first ticket the cop took a minute to explain what I needed to do and what signing it means.
@@andrewt.5567 also he could just write "refused" on the signature line. some states allow arrests for not signing but no states require arrest. worse case scenario a 70 year old skips court for an improper turn.
Even if theres a language barrier, OKC PD has a lot of Vietnamese officer that can be utilized as translator. Not sure why he didnt call that out in dispatch.
@@antrieu4841 or take 30 seconds to use google translate to get a few basic ideas across to him. I just saw a video of an officer doing a whole DUI stop and arrest over google translate in Chinese with no issues
The fact that nobody knows if he's going to be fired and have his certification revoked, or not, tells you the system is broken. We've seen many incidents like this where the department refuses to admit wrong doing.
That security camera angle was sickening. I hope the Oklahoma City PD has good liability insurance, 'cause that one ain't going to a jury or they're paying 5x as much!
@@WayneClark-mg9qw Sure, you jaywalked, so every single person on the planet must be reprimanded. But holding shitty people accountable for their actions.. Unheard of.
As a 15 year former LEO in Australia I am absolutely disgusted by this officer's actions. Generally speaking, the thresholds for use for use of force are different in the USA than here, but I did not see any threat to the officer whatsoever that would warrant such a move. We just had a case here where an officer tased and killed a 95 year old woman in an aged care facilty. That officer was just convicted of manslaughter and fired from the force. Such criminal convictions used to be quite rare. I am pleased that Police officers are being held accountable more often these days and not able to hide behind the badge when committing violent acts. Thanks for calling this one out.
I grew up in Oklahoma City. I worked as an emt in okc and surrounding areas. This absolutely makes me sick. The officer should absolutely lose his job and be charged accordingly, and i hope any charges presented toward the man should be dropped. This was extremely excessive, and sadly, I've always backed the police when they are or were in the right or justified. This man presented absolutely zero threat of violence. You should always de-escalate, and with a man that small and clearly frail, treat them with dignity and respect. Speak up, speak clearly, and find a different way to explain the situation or get someone out there who can. Thanks for covering this, bro. You always call it 100%. I've heard you, on many occasions, call police out.
my family is retired military and only used force when *absolutely necessary. as in a literal threat. this was not a threat. it was simply an old man telling him to listen and stop being ignorant. and he got face slammed into the ground and put in the ER over trying to use reason. dear god. this makes me wana vomit. makes me sick too.

Im 50. I've been driving since 14. I have been a licensed driver in the US, germany, and japan. I have no clue what the officer was trying to explain to him or what the officer thought he did wrong. The officers explanation of why he was being cited was terrible and i couldnt understand what he was saying as an english speaking person. As far as the guy swatting him, sure, go ahead and secure the arm. But he didnt just do that. He secured the arm, stepped behind him, and arm barred his head into the asphalt. That required thinking, it wasnt a reaction. The cop did request for back up several times, likley due to knowing he was getting frustrated. The department does share a portion of the blame if no one, including the requested supervisor, bothered to assist
I'm also confused as a native English speaker. It sounds like he made a turn from the wrong lane but I still can't understand why the cop wouldn't just say that.
The officer simply does not have either the intelligence or retained training to consider de-escalation as the only way to resolve the scene via a translator/relative. That head slam was utterly gut churning to watch. The officer's frustration brought out the anger and that aggressive throw down...interesting that there is no bodycam available. This individual simply does not have the appropriate temperament ( surely this would have been noticed by his superiors?) and should do time for this assault. Just awful, I hope the elderly gentleman is comfortable.

I seem to have a gift for snuffing out pricks like this cop. And too is why I can’t put up with co worker sabotage, or also known as corp politics, and tell the boss. Then the boss gets rid of me cause they want workers playing politics. I wouldn’t have been as respectful and dignified as this elderly gentleman, and that idiot would’ve had a field day with me. Kudos to the well dressed Asian man, and too bad for the ossifer that stepped on his dick and tried to make an ass out of everybody there.

what got me was the clear effort this elderly gentleman put into his outfit and looking presentable, all while you can see clear wear on the lapel of his jacket and clothes, probably struggling financially but doing his best and not giving up.

He def wasn't expecting the old guy to not keep his head up (your reaction time is crap at that age and your head weighs ten pounds ntm his neck muscles are nigh non-existant likely from living off rice and vegetables his whole life). Most ppl that are resisting like that would get their legs at least halfway back under them so a knee or two at least contacted first. You could tell he has no muscular control, physical wherewithal or coordination. Cop just got unlucky and found the one old asian dude who never practiced any form of martial arts in his life smh... Doubt that cop wrestles with a lot of old men on the reg. If you train a lot you can easily overdo something on instinct. Olds, children, women and hypereffeminate men get hurt by dudes all the time when they FAFO. You try not to but you get used to training against ppl your own size or bigger than you. We've all seen some fat loud woman punch a man in the face at a bar and get backhanded into next week like it was nothing and him immediately feel bad, i scared my dad once as a joke when i was a kid and he put me through the drywall before anyone knew what happened. Nobody got hurt and i thought it was funny but he was like "Hey, don't ever do that again, imagine if a nail was sticking out inside the wall or something and you got stabbed in the temple or lost your f*ckin' eye." My guess is he was just gonna forcefully detain him to hopefully call his bluff in hopes the guy would then listen, sign the ticket and not waste more of everyone's time. Cause and effect was still that the guy touched him and started escalating telling him to shut up so he was trying to nip it in the bud and keep the thing from escalating into incoherent screaming. Sure an oopsie happened that coulda killed the guy, but it only happened due to his actions.
My grandfather, 92, keeps mentioning that one bad knee injury in his older age has caused him to slow enough for his health to decline, and his health continues to dwindle currently. I can't help to think what this kind of injury will do to him for the rest of his life, probably shortened his life significantly, which is sad. Was hard for me to watch too. Best wishes to the victim and family.
I live in OKC. What area was this? I am a combat veteran with nothing better to do, maybe I can go to this area and wave a sign around outside of the police station dude works out, saying he is an asshole. I mean, got nothing better to do, might as well use my god given rights, and the rights assigned to me for being a combat veteran!
Google Maps "XOOM Wireless OKC" will take you right to it and it is next to the Dunkin Donuts seen at 6:09. From there I guess it would be finding the local police stations with the most visibility so the maximum number of passing motorists see the protest signs.
Watch the latest drop by The Civil Rights Lawyer. You'll see it gets much worse. The cops now days are sooo far removed from common sense they beat up a man to trying to put out a fire in his own home, for his safety.
I don't understand why some people in authority react so poorly to confusion. Particularly when dealing with the elderly. It's like they think their authority is being challenged, but what's really happening is the person they're talking to doesn't understand what's happening. You see it with the mentally ill as well.
It's harder to deal with. Unreasonable and difficult people get justified force. Normal people sign the ticket. Normal cops don't have tools to deal with that kind of confusion. So they use the tool they have, that's force.
They aren't used to having to modify their behavior due to the actions of a civilian. You do what they say or there is a possibility the civilian can die, all government sanctioned. That is an awful lot of power and many of them can't handle it and abuse the 'privilege'. Plus many laws are 'non intent' laws, so the reason somebody is breaking the law is irrelevant, simply the fact they are is enough. So if someone is not complying due to confusion, well, doesn't matter, all that matters is that they aren't complying, so they will be punished.
As someone who has also worked Law Enforcement, I have noticed de-escalation is something A LOT of officers struggle with. Its like some of them are looking for excuses to use force
I had something similar in the same city, cop tried to give me a ticket for a native tag, had to call his supervisor just for the supervisor to tell me I'm good and yell at the officer as I drove away
Dunno if it was anything similar, your problem was administrative interpretation, and the old guy did break the traffic rules, sidestacking in a median can be pretty dangerous. Dunno if the cop could've tried drawing the situation on a pice of paper if it wasn't possible to get someone to translate, maybe the grandpa would sign the citation if he understood that he was in the fault.

I saw the first angle and thought oh that’s heavy handed, then saw the second and physically winced. That officer should be criminally charged. I am absolutely so disgusted. Can we do anything to support the family?
Just looked for an update. The cop was arrested but on Dec 27, 2024, the OK Attorney General dropped all criminal charges. This is his direct response… “As Attorney General, I will not permit Oklahoma police officers to face criminal prosecution for conduct adhering to their training,” Drummond said in the statement. “While the outcome of this incident is unquestionably devastating for Mr. Vu and his family, I do not believe the officer exhibited criminal intent.” The statement added that it is “never acceptable for a member of the public to strike, push, or otherwise make unwanted physical contact with a police officer.” “Our law enforcement officers work under constant stress, where the most routine interactions can become life-threatening in an instant,” Drummond said. “For everyone’s safety, it is imperative to follow an officer’s instructions and to never strike, push, or make any kind of unwelcome physical contact with an officer.” “The simple truth is, this unfortunate incident never would have occurred if Mr. Vu had kept his hands to himself,” Drummond said. Despite the charge being dropped, the AG said the incident is still being investigated internally and could result in “non-criminal forms of accountability for Sgt. Gibson.”

He thought it was reason to run me over then got out and started beating me with a chain. I used my machete and stabbed him. It was all caught on camera by the store across the street. That is absolutely, completely and utterly bang out of line. That officer should be on remand (prison awaiting trial) for attempted murder. Here in Scotland, the offence of attempted murder has a clause that states you're guilty if your action "is so reckless as to show utter disregard for the consequences". A gentleman like him, in these circumstances, should never have been subjected to force like that. It's inexcusable, reckless and shows utter disregard for the consequences. I wonder why the officer didn't just take a step back, and maybe just phone for a translator. That's what I always do. If nothing else, it's only fair that everyone understands what's going on. Let's just hope that that officer is never inflicted on the public again, gets the jail, and that the victim makes a fast and full recovery.

Prob because your giving him a break because he Asian
Oh my goodness! Use common everyday technology (and humanity)? What a brilliant idea!

Just looked for an update. The cop was arrested but on Dec 27, 2024, the OK Attorney General dropped all criminal charges. This is his direct response…
“As Attorney General, I will not permit Oklahoma police officers to face criminal prosecution for conduct adhering to their training,” Drummond said in the statement. “While the outcome of this incident is unquestionably devastating for Mr. Vu and his family, I do not believe the officer exhibited criminal intent.”
The statement added that it is “never acceptable for a member of the public to strike, push, or otherwise make unwanted physical contact with a police officer.”
“Our law enforcement officers work under constant stress, where the most routine interactions can become life-threatening in an instant,” Drummond said. “For everyone’s safety, it is imperative to follow an officer’s instructions and to never strike, push, or make any kind of unwelcome physical contact with an officer.”
“The simple truth is, this unfortunate incident never would have occurred if Mr. Vu had kept his hands to himself,” Drummond said.
Despite the charge being dropped, the AG said the incident is still being investigated internally and could result in “non-criminal forms of accountability for Sgt. Gibson.”
