Hi! Would you put crushed pepper in ghee the beginning of tadka or will sprinkle separately on Pongal? I only have pepper powder so wondering how / when to add it to the Pongal. Will it burn if I add it to the ghee while doing tadka?

Sakkara pongal.add more water in the cooker and cook.immdiately after opening just add good quality jaggery pieces and close and keep it for 10 mts. Then open mix well and add other ingredients. Boiling jaggery with milk sometimes gets break down
Finally we can add sugar 2 table spoons to the Tava and make single consistency sugar syrup and add. This will give a glossy finish to sweet Pongal. Try that also.

Tip: in ven Pongal...crush pepper a little and add to ghee to roast....it enhances the flavour and good for health.

As usual great..but i feel there was no "khara" in khara/ven pongal..i mean, no chopped chillis added

For venpongal too,milk can be added.pepper and jeera can be dry roasted, coarsely ground and sautéed.children tend to avoid eating pepper as whole.
