    Bridgman taught at the Art Students League in NY. He died several years before the School of Visual Arts was established, (co-founded by cartoonist Burne Hogarth, it was originally called the Cartoonists and Illustrators School).

    Thank you for posting this review. I bought Constructive Anatomy a couple months ago but need full physique diagrams to move forward. So I'm going to get the 5th Edition now and call it a day. I am a beginner but I'm progressing pretty fast. I'm going to order the Walter Reed Figure book you mention to help me move to the next level.

    Oh sick. Had constructive anatomy a few years back and wanted to buy another copy as I lost mine. This seems like a much better buy! Thanks for the info!

    Now I have a question good sir, should I as an artist buy the books seperately or just get the 5th edition?

      achi Aviv I picked up the fifth edition recently and I really like some of the changes they’ve made. If you’re going to get one of the single volume versions, the fifth edition is pretty good. So if you don’t have anything I recommend getting the fifth edition over the single volumes.

    The hardback, unfortunately, isn't available now. I would've loved one. Can you [comfortably] open the paperback (5th edition) flat?

    So if you had a choice would you buy the books separate or would you get the 5th edition

    How do you apply Bridgman onto female anatomy? Do you have to adjust the hips and waist while drawing?

    • @cadaver6665
      @cadaver6665 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He has a separate book about the female form. Other than that you just need to study the differences yourself and adjust.

    • @scottsackett8790
      @scottsackett8790  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      All the anatomy is the same, the proportions are different. I'd use Bridgman to learn the basics and than study the female figure. Female bodybuilders are a great way to study anatomy.

    Have you ever read Louis L’Amour books about the Sackett family? You have a cool name.

    • @scottsackett8790
      @scottsackett8790  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I read them all growing up and I’m still a fan of Louis L’Amour.
      True story: a few years ago my wife went to NYC on business. I went with her and had to meet her at her office one afternoon. I had to give security my name and one guy at the desk was a L’Amour fan and made a huge deal about my name.
      Six months later we are back in NYC and with group. We go by the office and the same guy is there. He sees me and announces with a loud voice “Mr. Sackett and party, you can go on up!”
      Everyone in the group was confused but impressed. I never explained it.

    Hello. How do you recommend I study bridgemen. Do I just copy? As I am virtually a beginner and I don’t believe the book comes with step to step drawing process (I may be wrong). Thanks I advance.

    • @scottsackett8790
      @scottsackett8790  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This isn’t a step by step book, but I would recommend copying the drawings and learning the anatomy. I would rate this an intermediate to advanced book.
      A good beginning book is The Figure by Walter Reed.

      The book was originally published in the ‘30s and the reproduction wasn’t the best. The 5th edition the art has been touched up.

    Bridgeman is so hard to decipher

    • @taraishot100
      @taraishot100 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trick is not to decipher it the trick is to draw it so much that the forms get engraved into your memory

    I find this book very akward. It tends to verbally desribed things instead of just have visuals.

    • @scottsackett8790
      @scottsackett8790  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s definitely an older style of art book that spun out of Bridgeman’s lectures.
