  • In this video, Pat shows how to throw a diamond hitch, a hitch that is yet to be named, and how to sling. We have a friend who wants to ride the Pacific Crest Trail and she needs a horse that she can ride and pack...we happen to have such a horse. So this demonstration is done on Gallo, an 8 year old ranch horse that stands 14.1 hands tall. For more information, visit our website www.thedisciplinedride.com . I "invented" that simple X hitch in 2009 while packin mules in the Grand Canyon. I call it "The figure 8". You're the 1st guy I've seen use it. I have never seen it in a book or video. I was pretty sure I was not the 1st to figure it out.

Looks a good set up. Ours was WW1 Light Horse howitzer macnine gun univeral pattern swivel tree fitted with breast plate, britchen and crupper - girth points front and back and mohairs girths crossed underneath - leather pack bags about the same size as your panniers, topped with either rugs&/or swags draped over the top - seat belt webbing surcingle with tapered leather end around the lot, with a recatangular buckle frame (no prong) - and after doing the "math" - a second one further down. Putting the buckle about the top of the load pulled down and through the second and up again (a' la sheep shanktype of knot). All in the Aussie alps. They never moved an inch. No galls or rubs. Horses for Courses of course. Pack a station wagon and trailer these days!! Interestingly the strapping was apparently wattle bark tanned and marked Aust Govt 1917 - in perfect condition - unlike me these days. Blessings.

Very good Pat. Different styles are interesting to me. I’m no packer, have done a little on my own. Your slinging style using the sawbuck l like. Have seen slinging done on a decker, barrel hitch, basket hitch. Have not seen these two hitches done on a sawbuck, now I know. To me, your slinging style is a hybrid between the barrel hitch and the basket hitch, but what do I know. What I know, I learned on TH-cam.
Your style of getting luggage, cargo loaded on an equine I like. Interesting.......fun stuff. Lemon meringue pie in the outback, that’s living large LOL. You will have to let us know how that works out. 🇺🇸👍🏻

I will only answer this question one more time because of your politeness. This video was shot in Los Angeles County last fall during one of the many surges when the hospitals were being stressed to their limits. The owner of the property we were on were kind enough to to let us gather with a few friends and give this demonstration. These kind people were and still are the sole caregivers to their elderly parents and they asked that we all observe the CDC guidelines of that time. Just off camera, were a half dozen or so students, all wearing masks and standing 6 feet apart minimum. This should not even be something people notice or question as it is a personal choice and often done out of regard for other people. Focus on the excellent content. As always, thank you for watching!

I’m assuming you’re talking about the video on packing. In that video, we were standing in Los Angeles county at the home of a friend who is the sole caretaker of her elderly parents. Pat is himself high risk for a serious case of Covid. There are zero ICU beds available in LA. And someone dies of Covid in that city every 6 minutes. Out of respect for our friends and the situation, we chose to wear masks. What irks me is the time I have to take to address your question when it a) does not affect the content or quality of the video, and b) is really none of your business, and c) out of concern for my 70 year old Vietnam veteran husband with breathing problems, you should be applauding rather than questioning our choice to wear masks. Get it?

Sorry for jumping on you like that. I’ve been fielding comments about Pat wearing a mask in that video from some really rude people. What people also didn’t see because the video was edited was that some of our students would walk up to see something or ask a question and it didn’t make sense to keep putting on and taking off a mask. But as you know, it’s become a political thing rather than a public health thing and that puts me on the defensive. Again, I apologize for overreacting.

We are being told there is a pandemic, yet very few have died. Our death toll is actually less for 2020 than 2019. We are also being told no one has the flu anymore. Apparently, the flu has disappeared from the planet. The Devil is using this lie to divide people. Divide and conquer. Seek Christ. Pursue Him before it is too late. Repent of sin and follow Jesus. can you please take the mask off. It makes me very anxious. I totally dig your information and tell a lot of people about it but I can't watch a video with someone wearing a mask. Thank you. Thank you for your Service. I'm a DAR -- Thanks to my family... all gave some...some gave all... God Bless you and Deb!

Sorry. This video was shot at a friend’s place near Los Angeles, where they are literally out of ICU beds due to the high rate of Covid19. Out of respect for our friends and for our own safety, we wore masks that day. It should make you more anxious for our wellbeing if we were not wearing a mask.

Viscous. Most people I know who wear masks are viscous when they encounter opposition. That’s because they’re wearing them out of fear, not knowledge. Think of an animal in a trap. They also like to tell of how they wear it for others and for righteousness sake. Lies. The enemy’s plan to turn us against one another has worked perfectly.

@@jamietownsend3677 oh for pity’s sake, shut your damn mouth. If they stop making videos because of people like you who are repeatedly harassing them after they asked you to stop I am confident I won’t be the only one that will be pissed. No one sees eye to eye on the mask issue and they are within their right to wear one. Leave them alone and go bother someone else.

It’s really easy for him to take the mask off. Click the “X” in the top right corner of the video.
