    Cheers Mate, EON installed my meter 2 moths ago and now I'm moving to a new Provider. All the instructions they gave me were wrong. When I rang them up, they kept telling me I don't need to read the meter as it is automatic. They didn't understand that I needed a reading so I can move Provider. It took me 30 minutes trying to understand the meter until I came across your video. Much appreciated. EON - employ this man as he knows more than your own staff and engineers.

      Pleased you are sorted and I helped buddy :) I've just reached the end of my COOP Energy term so did a comparison on uswitch and EON wasnt even in the top 20 on price :O Guess they have put their prices way up to compensate for our 'smart' meters.. Thing is I got a phone call from uswitch today, 2 weeks after signing up to switch providers only to be told i cant switch my dual fuel as my electric meter is a pre-pay?? I asked if they had seen my youtube video haha She wanted me to forward my annual bill that has the MPAN on it but I wont get that until after i leave COOP, so how do I leave? I've gone onto Moneysavingexpert and through to a company called IRESA now. Hopefully they can swap me to them. I joined a company after EON no problem, then joined COOP fine with my so called prepay (credit) meter! Now a year later... The staff everywhere are useless not just at EON it seems!

    My partner has just moved into a new flat and as he was used to a old style meter he didn't know how to read this one or whether it was a smart meter. Like yourself we had to phone eon, luckily previous tenant was with them so they had the details of the meter. Like you I tried pressing the b button and even the a button before calling eon. They told us what the meter reading should be and the nice lady had to look up which type of smart meter it was as its a different combination for different types. For us no 9 worked. The readings did match. I prefer reading the meter myself to check on how much just in case. Myself I have a old dumb meter but keep getting bombarded due a smart meter, which I keep on revising while it's still working OK. Thank you for a really useful straight to the point video.

    Simple short video which is to the point. When Smart meters fail to connect the Wide Area (mobile phone) Network we have to do this to keep our balance on track, and this meter wasn't straight forward at all. Thank you Steve Flaxvert.

    Great vid bud, helped me out so much. Just moved into a new place and switched supplier. My meter is the 110 model and this process is exactly the same for the readout. Such a bafflingly stupid design for a meter, why anyone would try pressing 9 first is beyond me. And even then it cycles through so much nonsense you’d never figure it out 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Thank you very much. I will go and get the ready. Got guide for the now useless display. Got my unit via Toto Energy but then moved to Scottish Power. They are unable to find me on their database to put me on the Smart Meter (SMETS v2) Rollout. This new ones are meant to be supplier independent BUT the IT behind it makes for nightmares and every energy supplier will go nuts (or bust or both) trying to roll the new technology out.

      For belt & braces.. just so happens in my case, the last supplier left a digital readout windowsill jobby that still seems to work. It's displaying the exact same reading as when I press '9' on the main meter. So this just adds confidence that pressing 9 is the correct action.

    Similar story for me. I had smart meters installed by Eon, then switched to a new supplier who was unable to read my meters remotely. I have to provide them with regular readings so they can bill me without estimating my usage.
    Eon do a TH-cam video on smart meters. It has nice music, and shows (at 3:10) how to get meter readings on the remote display. Just press the setting button and the reading shows up top right. No need to go ouside and read the meter directly, or is there?. In the Eon video, the gas reading shows up in cubic meters, but on mine it shows as kWh. My energy provider needs the readings in cubic meters. I am surprised yours needs it in kWh. I have to press 9 on my (Secure Liberty 100, model EG 410) meter when it initially displays “Volume” followed the reading (indicating cu.m.). Then follows the other info “Imp KWH” (indicating kWh), etc.etc.
    The energy providers convert from cu.m. (which all meters measure) into kWh using the factors described on your energy bill. These include CV (Calorific Value in MJ per cu.m.) which varies according to the quality of the gas supplied. National Grid (which owns the pipes) test and publish daily CV readings which the energy companies use to bill you..The correlation between my remote handset reading in kWh and the meter reading in cu.m. Implies a CV of 40.4 MJ/cu.m. I am guessing this factor is either built-in to the meter, or it was the last value loaded into the meter when Eon last read it remotely.
    But it really shouldn't be this difficult. Its bad enough that we can't get any official information on our own not-so-smart meters, but totally inexcusable that the energy suppliers can't access a meter that they haven't installed. My current supplier will install new meters in due course. AIl this is costing millions (current estimate is £11 billion) and we, the consumers, are paying for this monumental grade A cock-up in surcharges to our bills.

      It's about time we all faced up to the fact that smart meters are an utter waste of time. We have had one for a year or so and no-one ever pays any attention to what is says, so it hasn't saved us a penny. If you don't know you have left the oven on, it's your own fault. Like others on here, we are changing providers and the one we are leaving hasn't bothered to read it. So I really appreciate the video. I definitely won't be getting another one and I take every opportunity to slag off the whole concept. All the best.

    You are AMAZING, thank you.
    Been in turmoil past week..
    I moved into a 1-bed flat recently.
    I'm with Octopus energy - they billed me £118 for 16 DAYS energy use (yesterday I was actually out of the flat from 2am - 10pm, almost 24 hours and they charged me £8.70).
    The Secure Liberty 100 smart meter I have (same as yours) was put in by e.on - did you have the same problem as me? Basically - are Octopus rinsing me because the meter actually belongs to e.on?
    I don't know what to do, and my landlord is even stressing about it now.
    VERY concerned.
    Is a change of meter needed, or do I give them just the readings? How do I know I'm not giving them incorrect meter readings?

    • @flaxvert
      @flaxvert  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have yet another meter now. Changed company and they said i needed a new one. No wonder they are all putting their prices up, its to pay for all the meters we don't want!

    Hello...I recently moved into a house which was supplied by Npower but I moved to Scottish Power. I have a meter same as yours but I can not provide readings, I have been tossed around as no one see to know how this meter works. I have only one meter in this house. does it provide readings for both Gas and Electric???

    • @flaxvert
      @flaxvert  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, this meter won't provide gas readings. If you have both gas and electricity at your address then your gas meter will be somewhere else along with a lever to turn it off. Look for a white box on the outside of the house or down the cellar if you have one

      I have had 3 meters since then, and am about to join Octopus Energy so will be getting yet another meter but a dual rate one this time :D

    Unless you are with Utility Warehouse, they want R1 if it's only a single rate, by pressing 6 four tmes

    When you're sending the reading, do they want the number after the decimal point? I'm pretty sure they don't, but I want to be certain

    • @flaxvert
      @flaxvert  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most dont, but some do like you to use all 7 other digits, so I would need to enter 0009809 as a reading, leaving off the .3
