If he wants to argue the wrestling standard has improved in the last twenty years, fine but that just means you should grade according to the new standard, not alter the grading scale. For example, if I were to rate NES games based on the standard for the time, I could say SMB 3 and Legend of Zelda are five star games. I respect his reporting, I respect his historical knowledge, but his opinion on what makes for good wrestling these days is not even worth hearing anymore. He's so far up the Bucks and Omega's asses and he reeks of bias. Whether he's on payroll or he's just lost his mind and fallen deeply in love with them for... I guess naming a move after him, he has no credibility left. He's either owned by AEW, or just a sad, craven old man desperately pandering to who he thinks are cool in a desperate attempt to be cool too.
He once told me on twitter that Bret and Shawn could learn a lot from a guy like Kenny.
That was gbe final straw for me. That was approx this time last year.
@@-The-Darkside Yeah that is absolutely absurd. Only thing they could learn from Kenny Omega is the sorry state wrestling would be in once their careers were over. I have trouble even imagining the average people who like Kenny Omega genuinely beliving that. Dave's out of his mind.
@@-The-Darkside I don't twitter but are you sure he wasn't just fucking with you?
@@-The-Darkside what the hell,really??
He lost all of his credibility the moment he told the world that Rock vs Hogan is only 3 stars out of 5. Seriously.
And crowd reaction is a big part of his ratings. I have never seen a crowd pop more for any match than I did for that one. Hogan, despite being the heel, was getting cheered and The Rock was getting booed.
He gave some AEW stinker of a match 5 Stars because it was a bad match but it worked for the crowed so that made up for it (His exact words). The crowd was not even a 10th of the energy Rock vs. Hogan and he shit on that match.
And, oh yeah, Kurt Angle never had a 5 star match. What a fucking joke.
Dave Meltzer you mean to tell me that Kurt Angle vs Brock at Wrestlemania and the Iron Man match between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels were worse then basically any Young Bucks match? This guy is so far up their asses it's insane
I swear I’ll hit Dave with an elbow if he gave Kenny Omega more 5 stars matches than Mitsuharu Misawa
If that ever happens , misawa should resurrect and hit Dave with a tiger driver '91
Get emmmmm!
I thought he already had?
@@Kingofweasles nope
Omega sits at 19.
The fact he broke one of the Four pillars of All Japan already (Taue) is disgusting; if he breaks Misawa's 25, we need to make an active effort to discredit Uncle Dave's entire career in the eyes of his most loyal supporters.
Yes, they made a typo. You found it so you're smart. Congrats.
Uncle Dave is a tick beneath Vince's senility, and would give perfectly formed turds 5 Stars at this point. He gives away stars like Marshawn Lynch gives away Skittles.
If it were just the bucks and omega masturbating in the ring, Dave would still give it 30 stars.
Y'all really think Vince is senile, yet when we see him or hear him speak nothing about him says he's losing his mind and he is still in great shape for a man his age.
@@rleonardgreen78 try looking at the WWE product
@@ScrotumJoe34 Lool. Look at the product in the early 90’s with people in chicken suits wrestling. He was late 40’s at the time. I think he’s just a mad man 😂
@@ScrotumJoe34 WWE have always had their up and downs with creative and the product.
I finally understand Dave Meltzer’s star system.
All matches that include Kenny & Japanese dudes = 5 stars and above
All matches that do not include Kenny & Japanese dudes = Below 5 stars & possibly some Harsh Criticism.
I think Twnkle Toes McFingerbang has naked photos of Dave Meltzer with Big Bird or a few of the characters from the Muppet Show...
If the match doesn’t have Twinkletoes in it, chances are Big Dave isn’t gonna give it 5 stars.
2:23, Listening to this, I cried and laughed at the same time. O'Reilly vs Balor match were closer in dates to the Parking Lot Brawl match in AEW (NXT's Takeover 31 is in October and AEW's Parking Lot is in September), and Meltzer gave O'Reilly vs Balor 4.5 stars when Parking Lot Brawl and Trent's mom, a device for Best Friends to stay relevant, received 5 stars. :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Somebedoy fill my effin mouth with bullets!!
Christ you can tell that Meltzer's standards have fallen off a cliff. This evidence shows what a load of nonsense his star ratings have become. Brian is spot on about Meltzer.
I can't believe uncle dave gives twinkletoes so many stars all he does is shake his head, look like his eyes are gonna pop out his head, a jumping knee lift and pick guys up on his shoulders and drop them forward (the one winged fairy)
Even the Salior Omega and Texudo Callis oil painting got 5 stars. Lol
The Rock, Edge, Lesnar and Kurt Angle have never had a 5 Star Match according to this Goof
This really blew Dave's star system out of this planet...
every clip about dave has to be drawn by travis his dave drawings never fail to make me laugh
Dave should rename the stars Kenny's, then that would make sense.
Rename the stars Buck's.
Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania 19 and Brock Lesnar vs CM Punk at Summerslam we’re 5 star matches in my opinion
I'm not a WWE fan but, in all seriousness , they had at least a dozen of matches that were five star but Meltzer said" fuck no"
@@blacksabbathfan8067 I agree, theirs quite a large number of them, especially for a company they primarily promotes its self as entertainment instead of wrestling
@@TheJuise26 hell yeah, the fact that Kenny has more five star matches than all the names Jim mentioned in the video is madness.
I mean, i can understand Dave's fetish with japanese wrestling, after all, AJPW had guys like Misawa, kobashi, Kawada, Taue ,Jumbo Tsuruta etc and Gaijins like Hansen, Gordy, Dr Death and vader but The bucks, omega have a collection of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 matches yet someone like Chris Benoit had zero is a bad joke .
@@blacksabbathfan8067 Well we all know why he will NEVER give Benoit a positive reaction or 5 star match rating, and it sucks that that is the reason
@@TheJuise26 Yes, it is indeed a sad truth
Dave Meltzer "Remember guys Britt Baker vs Tay Conti > Hulk Hogan vs The Rock"
That’s peak insanity on Uncle Dave’s part. Completely indefensible bullshit.
hbk vs flair such a fucking classic how is that 3.5 because ric isn’t doing backflips off the top rope ?
Hell it’s free I’m going to rewatch it now to see how 3.5 it is th-cam.com/video/OqcMDd1YeQk/w-d-xo.html
Number of 5 star 'or greater' matches according to Dave by promotion:
AEW: 11, already?
WWE: 14
NJPW: 72!
@Matt ADorno. I don’t count NXT as part of WWE, so only 5 WWE matches really.
Just the fact that styles vs Bryan and Bryan vs Brock didn't get 5 stars but omega vs Bryan was Bryan's first five star match shows how biased his ratings are
Meltzer is really living rent free in their heads, isn't?
You agree with these ratings?
good ol uncle Dave back at it again
I remember matches and specific spots in said matches from wwe matches that aired 25 years ago. I doubt anyone remembers a thing about the five star six man tag match that involved a dinosaur two weeks ago
Modern Dave really needs to rewatch the “uncool” speech from Almost Famous.
Lance Storm thinks Dave's Star Ratings are shit, and he works for F4W...just saying.
Lance has credibility in the business. A lot of it.
Styles vs Cena at SummerSlam was better than omega vs page and uncle dave gave 4.5 to that match
Young bucks also have Naked pictures of Dave Meltzer with PeeWee Herman and Claude Van Buelen...
Meltzer is Herbert the pervert and Omega is Chris...
Lol hahhahah
That art makes it look like Dave is thirsting for Kenny.
Can’t believe so many people would respect ONE person’s opinion for so many years. It’s just Meltzers opinion, ONE person. It means nothing.
Yet here's this comment thread, full of people seething over it.
Could listen to Corny all day, especially Territory days, I'm a big AEW fan, he's right some of these rated Way 2 high!
I think that Lars Sullivan 5-Star match was from Blue Boy Magazine and not the Observer. Honest mistake.
"Dave Meltzer" and "credibility" don't go together.
Walter vs Ilya = hangman vs kenny omega 🤯
CM Punk and MJF remind us what wrestling is all about, content that Twinkletoes will never be able to deliver
We are all waiting to hear Cornette talk about their promo battle especially the "less famous Miz" line considering how Cornette is pro MJF and anti Miz.
What?
Is that Joey Diaz?
I think Dave awards Stars based on the number of times a wrestler slaps their thigh in a match.
Clean lifestyle? Uncle Dave is clearly on the gear himself
Meltzer’s favorites get the rating equivalent of a favored nations clause.
Lar's 5 star match was the ladder match for the NA Title at one of the TakeOvers.
The Lars Sullivan match in question was a 6-way at NXT Takeover New Orleans
For the North Something Title.
How many stars does his porno get?
@@vivpunk1258 probably -1/2⭐️ he’s not very pretty
@@deft__12 I wanted to say that it doesn't matter in porn how the guy looks, but he did a different type of porn.
So the og TLC matches that are the genesis of modern tag wrestling didn't get Christian 5 stars but YB vs JE did?
I don't have a hate boner like Jim does for those two teams but jeez man, that's bullshit.
The opus line had me cracking up
Uncle Dave is the Ogre of ratings match. Look at the Travis Artwork😆😂
Love you guys great job
Mystery Science Theater did the same analysis of a movie they featured skewering Leonard Maltin’s star system.
Slightly missing the point, I know, but Syuri vs. Hayashishita was very very good. Not better than most anything Shawn, Bret, Kurt, Benoit, so on and so forth have done, though.
The 5 star match with Lars Sullivan was in NXT Takeover New Orleans alongside Adam Cole, Killian Dain, Ricochet, and Velveteen Dream in a Ladder match for the NXT North America Championship
Meltzer's ratings lost all credibility in 1987, when he gave Hogan vs Andre NEGATIVE four stars out of five, but gave the tag team mixed midget match two stars, a full SIX STARS HIGHER than the biggest match in wrestling history. That was the moment he revealed that his ratings weren't about honest assessments, they were about making public statements that would get himself over with a certain portion of the wrestlers, to elevate his own relevance. He now finally has what he's always dreamed of with AEW, and so he is showering them with golden stars, while dreaming of Omega giving him golden showers.
Negative four stars 🤯 talk about not understanding the moment. It's not always about spots and moves
Dave grades on a curve
Let's face it there's more stars in a Meltzer match rating than in the entire AEW roster.
his star ratings are a joke what is with the 4 stars and 3 quarters BS ? lol WTF does that even mean ?
4.75 stars is so he doesn't have to give the WWE guys 5 stars. He gets to say it was an incredible match, but just not 5.
Ron just blew my damn mind. Holy shit…
You're welcome!
Just divide AEW star ratings by 2 and you get the real star rating...
