I too am following the guidance of our Arkansas guru with frequent mowing (every day) and doing little else ( Praise the Lord for Robots)! While only putting one $9.99 two-and-a-half gallon jug of DEF from that Bentonville chain store on the lawn all summer (Praise the Lord for Wallyworld). The lawn is close to perfect, what can I say?
Looking great man! I wish back when I mowed with a rotary mower I didn't get those pesky wheel lines. I may have never went to the reel mower. But now I can't go back haha
Awesome Travis, all I could think of was how great that front yard looks!!! Keep up the great work!! My St. Augie is jumping right now and I did raise it up to choke out some of the infiltrators!! LOL The battle continues!!!
Here in Austin the drought has been brutal! City is limiting us to watering once a week, so I've had my HOC maxed out for a month now. Anyway, love the videos, keep up the great work!
Hi Travis is Bob Wilson another question for you i have a newly grass less than 6 months old. Can I put insect killer on it? Any answer will be appreciate
Great tip. I`ve been getting a little scalping with my rotary the past month myself. Probably raise mine since I`m going on vacation in a few weeks. Your lawns looking awesome.
A little early for that. I don't put mine down until the third week of September. In TX, you should be just a pinch behind me. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching.
I know it is best practice to throw out some fertilizer and pre-emergent the first week of September. Is it okay to throw them out together? There is some decent rain chances in my town early next week and would love to let the Lord water them both in if I can.
Depends on grass type. I wouldn't do it this time of year for warm season turf in the transition zone. You could, but spring would be a better time. Thanks for watching.
Been loving this channel. Would you suggest raising your HOC no matter what your current HOC is or are you suggesting only if I was mowing really short? I’ve been mowing it around 2 for a while. Would you suggest a limit on how high to go before it’s bedtime for Bermuda?
Thank you. Appreciate that! 2” is a good spot. You’re right, I’m really only talking about if it has been really short all season. Don’t wanna go to tall or it starts getting a little leggy. I’d say you’re good. Thanks again!
@@BudgetLawns This is my first year really caring for my lawn, and I’ve been really appreciating the approach you take and I’ve learned a lot in a short period of time. I know you say you aren’t here to hold hands and I don’t need that, but do you ever answer slightly more long-form questions if I had a couple? No worries either way and appreciate your content!
Absolutely man. Always happy to help. I’ve even turned some questions into full videos so shoot ‘em at me. By holding your hand I mean that people are going to have to be proactive in figure things out. Appreciate ya!
@@BudgetLawns appreciate it! I’ll try to keep it condensed. Had my house since 2016. Always thought I was battling crab crass every year. Knew nothing about grass types. Low and behold I find out this year it’s mostly common Bermuda. Previously would have meant nothing to me. My front lawn is coming along nice and I’ve been able to have the best lawn I’ve had so far. Backyard is struggling. Could be from my uneducated attempts at overseeding with cool season grass, or dethatching way too hard. hard to tell. It just doesn’t grow the like the front does. Done a couple soil tests and seems to be in line with the front. Just can’t get the Bermudagrass to spread. It does have more shade during the day and I suspect that’s part of it. I do live in a microclimate where both warm and cool season grass is common. Would you recommend I do a total renovation on the back and switch grass types or do you think I can try again to get the Bermuda to thrive next year? If you need more detail I’m all for it lol
Hi Travis this is Bob Wilson I have question for you i just bought the s green work the thach machine and I want thetach my cool season grass what’s number I need to set at never done before.
Hey Bob. I honestly don’t know anything about those machines as I’ve never used one and don’t dethatch. Sorry, but I’m not able to give you a good answer. Thanks for watching.
Dunno how many weeks it is since last week in May, but yes, this summer has been shit, i have basically given up on my lawn right now.. its ok, but since fall is closing in im just gonna pack it up and hope for a cooler summer next year. Oh south east texas.
Typically happens where there’s a dip in the lawn and the Bermuda is cut too short into the stalk. Bermudagrass has very little green on top with a lot of stock underneath. It’s a ring from scalping.
Over here in Northern California, it’s still getting hot. The highs of lower 90s and upper 80s for another couple of months or so. Last year I didn’t have to raise my HoC until November. Beautiful lawns btw
Just had to go look. Weird. The creepy old men and lonely young ones will love it. They’re also the same ones that will get butt-hurt if I say something about it. Probably love Yardbrah too! Let’s see…
@@BudgetLawns Just like you said in that video you did a year ago or so, he makes his thumbnails have the girls in them for views (and the guys ‘mowing yards for free’, making tens of thousands $). So transparent (to some) 😂
The one thing this channel and inflation have done for me is rid me of my obsession with doing every possible thing to achieve Augusta National in my yard. Travis you know, but for others, I’ve only done the basics this season. Only 3 triple 10 fertilizer applications this season and my grass looks great. I haven’t even run my irrigation but manually once or twice for 10 mins. Just letting Mother Nature do it for me for free. Weeds are starting to pop up so my next app will be pre-emergent on Labor Day-ish.
Man appreciate ya sharing this. I can say it till I’m blue in the face but it’s not until others like you share it that people will really know that this is all it takes. Keep up the great work bud. Appreciate ya as always.
I dont think the height of cut matters for winter as most are worried about. The canopy will be dead after temps drop below freezing. The subzero temps for several days to weeks will damage the roots. Preparing the roots of the plant through the summer and into the fall is more important than the height of the cut. Deep roots from proper watering and fertilization. A potassium application will go a long way at this time. No nitrogen or phosphorous should be applied on bermuda during this time. Watering is key for healthy roots for the winter. A dry fall still requires watering, just not as much depending on temperatures.
Yes, you're right about all that. I completely agree, but this was not a video about comprehensive fall lawn care tips. It was just a video about why I'm raising my height of cut throughout the latter part of summer and into the very beginning of fall. I even mention in the video that we will talk more about fall lawn tips coming up very soon. That video will go into more detail about these things you've mentioned. I get all of my bermudagrass lawn information from the University of Arkansas extension office, which is just right down the road. I also use Oklahoma State, which is only about 3 hours away. Here's a winter kill article from OSU. It's a little old but still relevant, valuable info. extension.okstate.edu/programs/turfgrass-science/educational-materials/site-files/docs/hort-update-winter-kill-presentation.pdf See toward the bottom about mowing height into fall. I'm certainly not saying increasing HOC is a guaranteed way to prevent winter kill. But it definitely is an easy, free way to take an extra precaution. If it could help, why not give it a shot since it's free. After all, this is Budget Lawns. Anyway, thanks for the comment. It's great info regardless for people to read.

Thanks so much. Appreciate your support!
Love that carpet you have there it looks amazing Travis

Thanks man. SEC football is underway with vandy! 👊👊 can’t believe it! I would say good luck dawgs, but I don’t think they need it 😆😆
Thanks for the video. I'm raising my HOC to 1 inch. I'll put 1lb N/1k sq ft on Labor Day, and pre emergent late September.

SC here, 10/1/23, once i apply the 10-10-10,, is there a need to water it in or let it be? Thanks

I know it is best practice to throw out some fertilizer and pre-emergent the first week of September. Is it okay to throw them out together? There is some decent rain chances in my town early next week and would love to let the Lord water them both in if I can.
Definitely. They both need watered in so let em rock.
Awesome. Just wanted to make sure they wouldn't cancel each other out or anything before I spread them at the same time. Thanks!
Is it ok to pull plugs and transplant to some bald spots once it starts to cool down a bit?

Where are you located?
How much shade during the day are you talking about?
How often are your mowing and what height?
Am I in trouble if I just finished scalping? Wanted to get it in late while it is still hot.
