Good question. I don't do either. Or never have at least. No, they're two different tasks to achieve different results. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Thank you, Rob. Really appreciate that. Means a lot! Easy to keep cranking out the lawntent when you're having fun! 👊P.S. Got ya a sticker headed your way!
Thank you very much. Means a lot. Yours is seeing some steady growth too. Consistency in posting is key. You got that covered and deserve all that comes your way as well. Look forward to the 2500 giveaway. Itll be here before ya know it.
Great info, I'm waiting until we get a little break from the heat here in Texas. We are going to be in the 100s for the next week or so. No rain for over 3 weeks. As soon as the weather turns, I will be taking my Bermuda down. Thanks for the video!
Thanks man! Whoa that's hot and dry. Yeah, I'd wait a bit too. We had a nice cool down. That's the main reason I snuck it in. Temps were only in the low 80s and mid 50s at night. It was awesome. Back up in the 90s now. Good luck surviving that heat. Appreciate ya!
Lawn was on fire 2 weeks ago. Then 6 inches of rain in 36 hours. Hot temps and 2 things growing too fast and crazy leafspot. Took it down 1/2 notch on the toro for a mini reset and fungicide. Hope it was enough. Might have to go down a little more but hope not.
A mix of common and a variety of hybrid...whatever the builder put in. I was a lawn care newbie at the time and didn't know any different. Thanks for watching.
One thing I've found very interesting in cool season turf is the sections that I brought down a quarter inch per week looked worse for longer than the section I took from 3.5 inches to 0.5 inches at once. Common guidance/recommendations would lead me to believe the opposite would happen.
🌞Whoa!! Four times!! That's quite the workout. Great discussion! I typically scalp three times a year: early Spring, before aeration, late Summer. On a different note, what are those power poles in the backyard? That your electrical meter that typically goes on the side of your house?
Thanks man. Yeah it was a workout for sure. Fortunately, we had a nice cool down this past week, so the day I did it it was only in the low 80s. Yes, those are the electric meters. One for my house and one for the house behind me. They're fenced in in most of the other yards but I had them not fence ours in. It was gonna take up so much of the space back there with the fence, we didn't want it. Appreciate ya tuning in as always. Have a great weekend man!
It can handle it. I just let mine go a week without any water. 2 days of that was after the scalp. If it's super stressed out, however, I wouldn't do it at this time.
Have you tried leaving the hoc lower after “scalping” or do you always have to raise it up a little bit after. Reason I’m asking is I have a new build, bumpy lawn, was mowing with setting 3 on back and 4 on front. Started looking leggy/had brown coming through so just dropped it to 3 and 3 which still gave it a decent scalp. If I drop down to 2 I think I might hit dirt in some spots so was hoping I could maintain at 3
On my new construction Bermuda lawn I’m on setting 2 and 2. It’s bumpy and I’m hitting dirt in the worst spots. But I’m ok with that because I’m just trying to mow low to get the Bermuda to thicken up like crazy. It’s working big time. I’m not so concerned with aesthetics in this first year. More worried about establishment. Mowing low will help with that. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya watching.
You bet. I was on 3 and 3 and just wanted to test 2 and 2 for fun. I liked what I saw and stayed there. Just gotta tinker with it and see what ya like best. If you can get by going lower, I say go for it cause it really thickening up.
@@BudgetLawns yeah I agree. At 3/4 it looked good for 2/3 weeks but then brown started coming through even with mowing 3 times per week. Thanks for the help!
What do you use to scalp your lawn? Most rotary mowers only go to 1"? Do you just use the manual reel or will you use the Trimmer now that you have it?
I'll use the rotary on one pass with the bag on the lowest setting. Then come back to go even lower with the Cal trimmer and catcher on. Not sure how low I'll take it. Trial and error will tell in the spring. Thanks for the question. Appreciate ya!
Certainly correct for us down under Bermuda aka Couch lawns sunny Queensland 🇦🇺
👍 Right on! Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck to ya in the lawn this coming season!
Related question: Should use scarifier/de-thatch machine….on Bermuda lawn. Can a scarifier be used as replacement for mechanical aeration/pluggers?
Good question. I don't do either. Or never have at least. No, they're two different tasks to achieve different results. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Nice!! I took mine to the meat. Greening back up here in SE Missouri
👍👊Boom! Nice play. We'll be glad we did in no time! Appreciate ya man!
I reset my backyard this year it helped a lot.
Boom 👍 Thanks for the feedback man! I love it when others say it besides me!
Just did my reset last Sunday. 6 days in.
Glad I did it....didn't have same look as July 4th.
Your lawn is looking good
Right on. Definitely worth doing! I feel ya...overall look was going downhill. Coming back nicely for sure. Hope the same goes for you! Thanks man!
Definitely correct sometimes less is more when it comes to lawn care . great video lawn looks great
👊Thank you buddy! Always appreciate seeing ya in the comments!
Budget Lawns always enjoying the BL videos
😁
Badasslawn! You get it !!!
👊🔥👊
Real good points bro! I just did my reset after all our rain. It’s already bounced back in good ways!
Thanks man. Awesome! I think we timed it just right. Got some good rain today too. Glad to hear it's coming back nicely. Good work!
Budget Lawns yeah we got some last night and then again this morning. Are we really in August?! Lol Lovin the rain!
Haha. I know right! It's nuts. We did too. Rained yesterday like an hour after I shot this video. 👊
Great video! Did this to mine and I am excited to see it come back.
Thanks dude. Right on! I enjoy the process of it coming back!
Another Classic brother, man I really dig your content brother 🤙🏾🌱
Thank you, Rob. Really appreciate that. Means a lot! Easy to keep cranking out the lawntent when you're having fun! 👊P.S. Got ya a sticker headed your way!
Told ya you would have more subs than me this year. 😉 Great work man.
Thanks man. Growing at a pretty good clip right now. Couldn't do it without all the solid support. Appreciate ya!
@@BudgetLawns Hell yeah you are!! Your channel definitely deserves it. Well done.

@@BudgetLawns thanks buddy! The sooner the better 😉 It's definitely been a lot of fun!
I take back what I previously said about consistency being key. It helps. But having fun is key. We're both definitely doing that!

Crazy how things can change so quickly. Lawn care always keeps us on our toes. Hope it passes for ya soon. Appreciate ya!
@@BudgetLawns learned my lesson. Next year regular preventative fungicide treatments
Hey brother! Nice booking lawn! What kind of manual reel mower you have? I need one too hopefully you can help with that!
Thanks. I have an earthwise 7 blade. I don’t use it anymore. I’ve since moved from this house and only rotary mow now. Thanks for watching.
What type of bermuda grass do you have in your yard?

That's crazy. Of course, I don't know near as much about cool season grass, but I wouldn't think that'd be the case. Interesting. Thanks man.

I’ve been considering a reset also, but I’m concerned my mower can’t handle it. 🤣
I get that. Anything lower than .75 is no good for the manual. It's just pushing a bed knife across the ground in most spots. Haha. Thanks buddy!
Budget Lawns maintaining mine at 5/8” is a workout!!! 😂
😂......🥵
I’m concerned my lawn can’t handle it, I haven’t dumped enough water on it.. 😅
It can handle it. I just let mine go a week without any water. 2 days of that was after the scalp. If it's super stressed out, however, I wouldn't do it at this time.

Anytime man. Good luck 👍
I think someone is really wanting a powered reel mower 🤔🤣
Haha. Big time. 3.5 hours to scalp and bag a 4k sqft lawn with a manual reel mower is ridiculous.
You need to come over to Fayetteville and show me how to level this horribly bumping lawn haha
I'm in fayetteville. Have you seen my playlist on leveling? It gives all the details from start to finish.
Definitely man. I’ve seen them all. It just seems like a lot of work and it looks so beautiful right now. I’ve got to do it though
Thanks man. I get that. It's a tough trigger to pull cause ya know it's about to take a beating. Definitely worth it tho!
bump for more google status

Powered reel mower.
