    'How I fitted' the Fiat Ducato Air Suspension Kit from ebay onto my 2005 Iveco Daily Campervan. Now I've tried and tested the air suspension that I fitted around 5 months ago, I can safely conclude what a massive difference it makes whilst out and about on the open road. #airsuspensionkit #ivecodailycamperbuild #iveavan #airsuspensioninstall #vanlifeiveco

    Hi Mark, Air suspension was a complete game changer on our mirage motorhome!!! Previous owner had never used it because he thought it didn’t work. At nearly 4 ton loaded the stability on motorway with lorries passing, cross winds and cornering was unbelievably better, Great video you will notice a massive difference we did on our 2 year motorhome tour.

    Hi Mark, I’ve just bought an Iveco Daily as my first camper project and just today have stumbled across your channel - what a godsend! I’m in engineering, mechanical fitting and welding of old and have dabbled with my own car servicing and maintenance through the years. Very much still have a lot to learn though of course. My wagon is 2008, 170k on the clock and so what I’ve identified as first and main mechanical jobs are general rust maintenance, addressing the sharp front bounce and replacing the clutch. I look forward to essentially mimicking your tutorials as best I can through the suspension upgrades in the new year. Have you any pointers regarding the clutch replacement also? Please do keep your journey going, active follower gained. Cheers and all the best, Liam.

      Thank you, Liam 👌👍. It's not too bad of a job to do ( the clutch ), the hardest part is disconnecting the thrust bearing fork as that can be fiddly, but besides that, a fairly straightforward job to do 😉👌👍👍👍...

      IVEAVAN I think I will have to do the same with mine when funds let me , I could not move my gas tank unless I got a smaller tank the gas tank takes all of the back from behind the axle to the back of the van at 1200mm x 320mm the size of my tank I had to put a new crossmember across so the tank would fit level I was hoping to put it on the side but I got the measurements badly wrong because of the body strengthens on the side the tank would of only been about 150mm from the floor so it was the only place I could of fitted it I was hoping to put it under the sliding door and have the filling point we’re you have yours by the passenger door. I don’t think there is many people who have converted there van would be able to do half of what you have had to do with your build , and yours is looking very well so congratulations on all your hard work when you look back at all you have done it’s all been well worth it . I don’t know if I will ever get to use my van as the hospital think I might have cancer of the bones I have to go in next week for a final test to find out what treatment I will have. But I’m not giving up. Thanks for sharing your great videos they have not only been a great help but a great incentive to carry on .👍👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just a mention monitor the chassis rails where you welded strengthening angle because you welded close to chassis bend and only short length of angle the chassis could crack ? look youtube video's airbag chassis probs.I am not critizing.

    Good morning, what a start with what very informative and ingenious fitting of your bags. But to my mind putting air assist bags on a vehicle that has the same road springs on since new is counter-productive. My X 250 Peugeot long wheelbase van was running on the bump stops which apparently when they run fully loaded this is some think one has to put up with. So my solution was to fit uprated rear springs. These have been operated by 50% so now my van runs a 1 inch higher at the rear van a empty van obviously make. Consequently my suspension works a lot better and the job was done for £380 fitted. Now I have new rear suspension and shock absorbers. So it is brand-new at the rear and I’m not assisting springs that I’ve done many miles. Stay safe my friend bye-bye🚐☕️☕️👍🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌈🙏🏼💙❤️💙❤️

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Chalky😉👍. I too looked at uprating the leaf springs on mine, but due to the extra weight of them (which my van is just running over 3500kg) it wasn't viable in my case, The current leaf springs that the van sits upon now were replaced back in 2016 and have done very little mileage (however they didn't fit new hanger bushes for some reason🤔🤷‍♂️, (which I did in 2018).
      on my type of Iveco the axle is meant to sit upon the buffers as they are spring assist buffers and not bump stop buffers as such (even with no weight within the van) but gave an harsh bumpy ride, hence the reason for going towards the air bellows option, light weight, being able to adjust the pitch of the van once parked up and for £280 was the cheapest option for me, gaining quite a smooth improved ride from the original spring assist buffers. All the best bud 😎👌👍👍👍...

    I have these kits chucked in the "Pile" area from where we have removed them & repaired the broken chassis rails they bore down on.. or up on.. Quite a few as it happens - I've often wondered would it be un-ethical to re-sell them... Iveco's generally cope - kinda...sortof.. Ish.. sometimes, depending.. On Sprinters, these are the kiss of death - the chassis will break. Nobody much bothers fitting them to transits...
    On the Mercs/Vw variants, the resulting "Crapped itself" can be quite spectacular - the floor/chassis will jack-knife & repairing it is "Fun" - a lot of van gets chopped out in order to get one back flat. My 2c is that if your single-wheel Iveco can't hack the weight to the extent you start considering fitting one of these "Helper" kits - chop it in for a dual rear wheel model & give the kit a miss. The dual rear wheel; models are basically lorries pretending to be vans - the single rear wheel versions are vans pretending to be lorries. Never get the 2 confused - and never fit "Helper" airbags, because when that chassis cacks itself, you WILL be paying someone like me a fair wedge to get it back to fairly factory.. and your "Kit" will get chucked on the Pile - with the rest - and all them tail-lifts.. Wanna buy a lightly used tail-lift? :-) Well, lightly-ish used..

    • @jamesward5721
      @jamesward5721 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do lol at the tail-lifts. It's like bolting a bomb-shelter onto a wendy house. The lift brackets are 8mm plate drilled for 700 bolts per side - going onto factory 3 or 4mm folded steel (which is generally 2 layers of 1.5mm) your granny could bend with a withering sideways look. "Children! Children! Todays question is this - which do you think will crap the bed first? The 8mm premium steel, laser-cut aftermarket brackets from the nice people at "Air-Helpers R Us" or "Scandi-Tail - our back ends lift more!" or the tinfoil the factory glued together using melted down horses when they were banging out the van?"
      Answers on a Postcard. :-) When we remove them & chuck them on the Pile - you can hear the vans breath a sigh of relief. "Thank You, Kind Sir! I was sure I was about to break!"... You ain't wrong there, Kiddo.. :-) Oh look - you did kinda break.. let me weld that crack up for you..

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For myself, it greatly improved the ride handling within the van plus ability to adjust ride hight without using leveling blocks once parked up (Something needed when your parking up in locations like North Yorkshire) so hassle free from that point of view bud. Three years on with regular visits down a two mile un-surfaced potholed farm track to the family farm, it's fair to say it's been put through it's paces, let alone the abuse I've put it through upon the road.
      I did inspect the chassis when replacing the rear suspension and found no issues with the chassis (although, as mentioned within the video, I did make sure that part of the chassis was strengthened). For me, definitely the best mod I've made to counter act against the agricultural ride that the Iveco Daily offers in standard form 😉👌👍. The only issues (for me) going to the twin wheel form of van, is the space that you loose between the wheel arch housing, making it more awkward in getting the layout that we wanted at the time plus with my wife having an 'new car licence' (although, I've got the Grandad licence), we needed to keep to no more then the 3.5t type of vans. I can see why the Merc & VW chassis crack (I've had quite a few of these van's now) especially the newer one's seem to be made of tin foil, plus I thought folk bought these Merc / VWs for comfort so counters that once you fitted the air assist kit upon those (unlike the agricultural ride of that of the Iveco). But those too, probably want to be able to adjust the ride hight once parked up too to be fair.
      I used to work for 'Humberside Tail Lifts' back in the 00s and yes your correct in fitting a "bomb shelter" upon a vehicle 😂👍. That came more about after the 1998 LOLER & PUWER regulations. so, so much effort and testing have to be put into those when installing them. I remember doing all of the Argos trailers one year (removing the old R&B column lifts for new Ratcliff ones) I never want to see 'baby duck head blue' nor another Argos trailer again, nor would I like to buy one of your old one's them days have long gone matey 😂😉👍👍👍.

    • @jamesward5721
      @jamesward5721 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Iveavan I think a lot comes down to what weight is chucked into a van after the air-assist gets fitted. Loads regard it as the chance to absolutely dog the van with crazy loads "Because the airbags let it take the weight.." If you're sensible & just keep weights the same, then they're fine - but loads just use it as a chance to get silly with what they can carry - hence the high rate of failures. :-)

    I have a Peugeot Boxer Camper van with air suspension. The system has two feeds one for the front and the other for the back. I was wondering, do you think it would be possible to level the van front to back by reducing or increasing the pressure in the system. I realise that the air bellows have a minimum pressure level, so I would never drop below that. What do you think? Would you think of splitting yours? Cheers, Mark.

    Mark, great to see another video. I was thinking of a way to use the airbags independently of each other as a levelling system. Was working on heavy duty linear actuators as a levelling system but using , 2 x pressure guages and a diverter valve block, I think it should work for the rear at least. Any thoughts? Jamie

      Yeah can't see why it wouldn't bud, they actually do the kits that are separately independent of each other on ebay, Gadget John's is like that but with no onboard air pump. Hi mark. I got a 35s12 2003 mk3. I can only find one kitnonline for that year=model and it's crazy money. There are plenty cheap ones for 35s for 2006 onwards . Could I get one of them and just weld some plate on chassis to strengthen it and it would then fit ? Is this what you was implying at the end of your video ?
    Also thanks for all your hard work mate your videos have been a great help over the past 2 years for me. Thanks mate 👍

    • @Iveavan
      @Iveavan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your issue regarding the 35s12 is that the rear shocks are mounted on the outside of the chassis ladder unlike many of the other models of the daily where the shock absorbers are mounted on the inside of the chassis ladder, making the space available to easily fit a "off the shelf kit" to those models and not so easy to fit onto ours unfortunately. They is/was a kit floating about on the Internet soon after I did this mod but I haven't seen it again 🤔. You could try to fit another iveco kit upon your van, but would require heavy modifications due to the shock absorber mounting location (it's a real pain they did it this way) I'm going to replace my suspension soon so I'd probably revisit this and see what's out there. Midge from the Iveco Daily Campervan Club did a good mod, ask for him to show you (tell him I sent you then he knows what your on about) 😉👌👍. facebook.com/groups/193215174424343/?ref=share
