I've been playing for many years and my first wow moment with an amp is when I bought a used AC 30 from the early sixties, plugged my old 62 strat in, no pedals, and the sound just was fantastic. These amps fell out of favour in the seventies as everyone was moving to 100watt stacks. It still remains one of the best sounds I've ever got. Thanks Lyle for preserving these great old amps.
Fully sick, bro! The earliest AC30's I've ever had here was a Rose Morris and a hand wired Dallas. Thanks for your help on that rose Morris hacked up horror show too, mate. You truly are the Vox-Whisperer.
100 percent plus drift in a carbon comp is larger than I have run it to . There is a conundrum there clearly does have an effect on it's sound . Must say you are very good at what you do .
I assume you’re testing these resistors in circuit? What tool are you using? My JMI ac30 is sounding „not so ac30“. Lots of hum and noise. All the electrolytics have been replaced and I put new tubes in. Trying to figure out where to go next.
Off topic and I apologize in advance. Would you do a vid explaining the difference between Fenders? I have been a loyal watcher and admirer for some time now and to me all the Vibrolux, Deluxe, Twins, Bassmans, Bandmasters and Showmans or dual showmans appear very similar under the hood! I know some are 6L6 powered with 2 or 4 of them and some are 6v6 powered, but what makes a Bassman a Bassman and not a Vibrolux? Is it the tone circuits or what?
60’s/70’s Marshalls and Hi watts weren’t crowded like this. If you look inside an American amp from the same era, with similar features to an AC30 (multiple channels, and vibe/trem), you’ll find a similar maze of components.
Vox amps sound terrific but they definitely are messy inside. The tag boards are too narrow and the rows of turrets are too tightly spaced together, so the caps barely fit; and the connections at the turrets bulge with big shiny solder blobs that tend to draw your eye. A Fender eyelet board , or a turret board,, looks much cleaner.

Nice! 'Talk About the Passion,' works on so many levels here.
Those old 30s sound fantastic.

You’re one of the best of us. Hope all is well with you and yours Lyle!
Amazing tones out of that old amp. I wish I sounded that good at my age. Thank you Sir.
Beautiful tone & look Ma, no more noise!!!!! 😍
Great work - I'll have to do the same with my Voxes!
Man its sounding really good, Lyle!
Lovely vibe trem.

Excellent job indeed 😎👍

Out of interest, how do you discharge the capacitors, to be able to work on it having had it switched on?

Good idea.
Love the way they wired up these amps, looks so neat and tidy. Can anybody tell me what this style of board is called like?
Tagboard
Paxolin tagboard to be exact
Is it just me or do these british amps seem very busy and crowded with components?
