a latch hook is really helpful for getting the yarn through the holes in the mesh. they're made for that purpose, and pretty inexpensive. i've had mine for at least 14 years, and i really recommend getting one.
hello! I also make my doll wigs with that method, but what I do is, after straightening the hair, I brush it again. it is even smoother and looks prettier like that :)
Great tutorial :) I tried this method earlier today and the hair straightener nearly melted the yarn with the first go! My cheap little straightener only has on or off, no variation for heat setting....I'll give it another try tomorrow, thanks for sharing your tutorial :)
Definitely glue the hair inside the head to secure it. I've seen other rerooting videos where the artists used glue guns, caulking, Gorilla Glue, etc. to secure the hair in place.
Same but did you use like a different kind of brush because the pet brush might have been a different kind because when I did it I did like let’s say 10 strokes and it was the size of like the tip of my finger in my room my length was almost the size of yours
I tried this, but when brushing it out I found that the end would brush away and the length of wool just got shorter. I used a comb and I'm not sure what type of wool it was as it's from a while ago.
ye, it will become shorter that's why i said you should cur yarn strands twice the lenght you want the hair to be also brush the yarn not too hard , it's ok to have some strands here and there , type of yarn : acrylic yarn , so that it's safe for you to straighten it :)
noo, yo don't want to boil wash it , the hair will just become fluffy , you have to style it with heat like you would do with human hair , about the type of glue you can use fabric glue :)
+NANArt I meant for boil washing Saran / nylon hair. I got an apoxy glue that seems to work. I'm gonna buy some acrylic wool and see if that works better. Thank you xx
I tried this, but the yarn just kept breaking off. maybe I need to use a different type of yarn. Is there a specific type you'd recommend? I just bought one from Walmart in the color I liked, but there were different types of yarn there.
I know red heart has different yarn lines, like "economy", "soft", "with love", etc. What line is the yarn you used in this video? Because it holds up after the brush really well!.
hey guys thanks so much for your comments and questions , feel free to leave as many as you want , I will answer them all I promise :) ... also if you want to know how the hair looks in repaint doll visit my channel and you will find this doll's repaint :D
don't worry about your english , it's fine ( mine isn't that good either :p) ...here you can do two things , you can either double the lenght of your yarn or experiment with your local yarn brands , maybe there is a nice high quality yarn in your country you haven't tried ;)
I want to reroot my daughters dolls but I've true making a tool but broke three of course there wasn't holes in the dolls head should I premake the holes eat do you suggest
yes, if you want to reroot a doll without any hair you should make the holes so that it would be easier to reroot and you don't end with more broken reroot tools also i can suggest making a wig since it's easier and if you want it to stay you can glue it to the doll's head :D
I have one question ... when re rooting the way you do it, won't you have lots of short hair around the head? Usually when rerooting you pick it up on the middle ...
since yarn is a lot like wool you can't do it the same way unfortunately D: if you pick it up from the middle you would not be able to really insert it into the doll's head , but.. i found another way to do a yarn reroot maybe later i will make an update version of this tutorial :D, thanks for commenting my video !!! :D
I just picked it up from the middle and it worked great. If I picked it up closer to the end and rooted it, it would be really bulky on top but thin on the ends. So I definitely suggest rooting from the middle😁
Nami Hunter What I think she did is that she didn't fully brush out/unravel the yarn. If you look closer, you might be able to see the strands that braid into the yarn are mostly intact
red heart , and yes, as akira saito said i don't really fully unravel the yarn because it would end up fully breaking i just unravel enough to create the illusion of hair and if i end up with some braided strands i discard them
How do you style the hair after? Like say I want to cut the hair shorter and give it bangs. Since its yarn would I use a straightener on it and then cut it?
If you have do this operation and you don wan't like you hair are out you can take some hot glue and glu in the head of the wig 😀 sorry for my english (im only 13 years old and im french)
Hi! Thanks for this super-helpful video and your helpful answers to comments too! I only have cotton yarn, so I'm going to see what happens when I try it! (I won't use the straightener though, that might be scary haha)
Why exactly do you need mesh as opposed to a hanger or something similar to loop the yarn on? I really don't understand this...normally the hair is brushed until it's smooth and much shorter?
it doesn't fall if you use ( and must use) glue :) , in this doll i actually filled her head with glue after i finished rerooting :) Thanks for your comment
Apparently you can use a pet brush or a comb. If you use a pet brush start at the ends of the yarn, make sure that the yarn wefts are thick, don’t just fold the string in half, fold it like four times so it’s thick. If you decide to use a pet brush be VERY gentle.
What brand of yarn did you use? The brand I used only came out at 3 inches long and I need it a lot longer. It's acrylic yarn but apparently it sucks lol. Yours came out so much longer and prettier.
This is a really helpful video, I could use the tips for my ponies. One question, after rerooting the hair into the dolls head, does the hair fall off when brushing it afterwards?
I never use a comb/brush. When sewn on the fabric (I use fabric, not mesh) use a knitting needle to pull the intertwined thread strands from one-another, thread by thread along the fabric. There usually are 2, 3 or 4 tread strands twirled together to make the yarn. Then I separate further with a needle, before dipping the section of hair in scolding hot water, to remove crimping.
oh no D: are you ok? D: please be more careful , don't go with the iron to slow , remember that even in real hair if you leave it to long it will burn :(
Hi ♡ I make yarn tails, and you do not. Do Not. want to go slow. With the iron, move kind of medium-fast and brush the yarn in between passes. If you put too much heat it WILL burn/melt. @watermelon_tails on Instagram if you want references
What's another option for a pet brush. I don't own one. I also don't have a wig brush. Also, is there another option for the rerooting tool? I don't own one and there is no place near me that sells them
Try using an x-acto blade handle, wooden dowel, drill chuck, hot glue stick or anything else that can hold a needle. I've seen people using everything for homemade reroot tools. Also TH-cam it😁
Won't the hair come out too easily? I usually follow the last step on the video with a felting needle pushed into the hole where you just rooted the hair. By moving it around in there a few times, it tangles the hair inside the head and it's less likely to come out when you're styling.
I've tried a handful of different types of yarn but no matter what I do, once I brush it, I only end up with about 2-3 inches regardless of how long I initially cut my yarn. My brush just pulls it to shreds...
Try doing a tapping motion instead of a brushing when untangling it, be gentle and take your time I've heard untangling the yarn by hand can help too, sorry for the late reply hope it helps :)
no, you have to use a pet brush or a comb with thin bristles or any brush that have thin bristles , the brush has to catch the spaces in between the yarn strands
Instead of using straightening iron simply dip the detangled section of yarn hair in scolding hot water, lift out and hang to dry. Much less stress on the (acryllic) wool and a lot less work. I use acryllic yarn only. Wool will break off with time. Instead of mesh you can use cardboard and a crochet hook (poke holes) or a strip of fabric and a yarn needle.
you just take a needle the size of the holes you wanna reroot and cut the eye at an angle with some wire pliers then attach it to a pencil or to a crafting knife handle :)
do you HAVE to use a pet brush, or will a paddle brush for human hair work? The only pet brush I have is the one I use to brush my cat, and something feels unhygenic about using the same brush on the yarn.
I doubt you can brush the hair after it's rooted, it looks like the brush would just pull out the yearn that's not really untangled towards the bottom. You'll end up with much shorter hair that way. It looks more like dreads, which is a good look if that's what you're going for!
Yes, I prefer to untwist the yarn into their individual strands, reroot with the strands, glue the inside, brush the strands out & then straighten. Works great!
HI, THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO, SORRY MY POOR ENGLISH. I HAVE A QUESTION, WHAT CAN I USE FOR WASH THIS HAIR? THANK YOU AGAIN AND CONGRATULATION FOR YOUR VIDEO
how can you brush it that long? I try one but it torn and much shorter than yours. Does it depend on the brand? which makes it different? (Btw I'd like to say sorry if this waste your time TvT;;)
yes, it depends a loooooot on the brand of yarn you use , i had also used a cheap mexican brand ( since im from mexico) and the "hair" turned out super short and without any shine :( , i would recommend you to use high quality yarn if you want to achieve a result similar to alpaca fiber the brand i use for this tutorial its red heart ( i don't know if you could get it in your country but it's a really popular brand , made and exported from the U.S.A) also you can experiment with the different brands available in your country to see what gives you the result that you want :) and don't worry ask as many questions as you like :) it makes me happy to read all your comments :D... hope you find this useful :)
that's correct , you should only do it one time, if you wanna change a doll's hair more times is better to make wigs so that you don't damage the doll's head :)
hi, unfortunately yes ,you will end with a looot of fluff and yes, Your yarn will get shorter , thats why you have to add 5cm more to your desired length , also It can apear to be shorter when the hair is fluffier but believe me, once you straighten it it will be your desired length ,here in this tutorial i brushed the yarn wrong , that's why I made "how to make yarn wefts 2.0" If you have time and want to know more about this technique of hair making I recommend you watch my 2.0 version of this tutorial :)
If you have it on high heat then yes, it will melt the yarn. U can wipe off the melted yarn from the straightening plates once ur straightener cools though. I keep mine around 250-300 degrees Fahrenheit for straightening the yarn
most craft stores have something similar to it in the needle arts area, like cross stitch and stuff, or you could always go to a hardware store and look for something like it there in the garden department. I think something similar is used for making flower beds in yards where you only want it to be in one section. If all else fails there's always amazon and ebay.
you can get mesh in a hardware store ( like home depot or a local hardware store) or in a craft store ( si eres de México en parisina las venden o en fantasias miguel) ;)
a latch hook is really helpful for getting the yarn through the holes in the mesh. they're made for that purpose, and pretty inexpensive. i've had mine for at least 14 years, and i really recommend getting one.
thanks 4 the tip ;) I'll buy one and use it next time :)

be careful , remember keep an eye on the temperature and use only acrylic yarn also don't go too slow because you can melt the yarn :)
What temperature did you used?
I also want to try that but am scared that I'm ruining my straightener
Wow, that is the longest yarn weft I've ever seen. How do you keep it that long?
MayliSong I cut it twice as long as I need the weft to be and I start brushing it slowly from bottom to top :)
This yarn post is going on and on and getting nowhere fast. Maybe it's the title.... yarn, just that. You should know what it means lol.
you didn't brush the yarn enough, the fiber should be much sleeker and much shorter. The way you did it - lots of fiber will fall out.
What is the best pet brand brush to use
So how does it hold in the doll head i imagine it just ripping out easily while brushing / styling the hair
fabric glue on the inside :)
Glue I imagine
@@rainbowkittycorns1616 fabric glue
Definitely glue the hair inside the head to secure it. I've seen other rerooting videos where the artists used glue guns, caulking, Gorilla Glue, etc. to secure the hair in place.
I did the same things you did but all the yarn just came off and there was like 2 inches of usable yarn hair left what’d i do wrong?
either you brushed it tooooooo much or you cut the strands too short :S
Same but did you use like a different kind of brush because the pet brush might have been a different kind because when I did it I did like let’s say 10 strokes and it was the size of like the tip of my finger in my room my length was almost the size of yours

@@naokyuuketsuki064 yes

I tried this, but the yarn just kept breaking off. maybe I need to use a different type of yarn. Is there a specific type you'd recommend? I just bought one from Walmart in the color I liked, but there were different types of yarn there.
the red heart brand is a super nice yarn to use for this type of proyect
same my yarn broke
i keep trying over and over, but the yarn break instead of separates. I've tried everything :/
Mara Downer I think it depends on the kind of yarn you use, like what it's made from and stuff
Its just medium weight acrylic, like in the video
It depends on the quality of the yarn , in the video I use the red heart brand , you can experiment with the yarns available of your country :)
No, it needs to be 100% acrylic yarn!!!
I saw a tutorial, and it works only with acrylic yarn.

yes, a pencil will do the job, you can even use a cloth hanger or a wooden dowl :)

this is exactly the same thing as mozekytos tutorial on yarn hair wefts, the mesh, cardboard, and way you did it are the same thing
NANArt she looks soo pretty!!
Buying a large eye blunt cross stitch needle may make the mesh process a lot easier. I use it for yarn, ribbon, and 1mm cording.
Can you please tell us where you got your rerooting tool? Will a felting needle do the trick?
I did it myself , no, it will not work , but a normal needle will do the trick, only snip off diagonally the eye of the needle
NANArt how clever! Thank you much :)
My beauty supply carries that. Ask for tool when you crochet hair. They have a super fine one like that.
As she said snip off the eye of the needle id recommend putting it in a pencil end
my froggy stuff has a tutorial to make one on their youtube video custom rainbow dash doll
So it is possible to have "long" hair wefts from yarn.
Could anyone recomend so long yarn after brushing ? I tried a LOT even a 'red heart' you recomended and still it's ultra short :(
(sorry for my eng)
don't worry about your english , it's fine ( mine isn't that good either :p) ...here you can do two things , you can either double the lenght of your yarn or experiment with your local yarn brands , maybe there is a nice high quality yarn in your country you haven't tried ;)
I just found that Caron Simply Soft works better for me as it seems a bit slicker, easier to separate ;-)

Do you know if it's possible to dye yarn with hair dye? I'd buy alpaca fiber, but I might consider yarn instead.
yes you can :) i recommend to dye it with manic panic ( since it doesn't have any harsh chemicals that can damage the yarn) or with fabric dye :)
I once tried pastels works too
You lifted my eyes I have to try this
what kind of yarn we should use? anything i get keeps tearing mid combing and ends up very short :(
Is it possible to boil wash her hair when she have yarn hair is there going to be problem
Read another comment, and Nanart said not to do that, and to treat it like human hair. If you boild wash it, the hair will get very poofy.
can't we brush the yarn with anything else? Please reply.
That's what I am wondering too
I know I’m late but it’s important if you do that can you use super glue instead of fabric glue?
Do i need mesh or could i use like tape?
The brushing of the yarn works more efficiently if you unravel it into its separate strands
What type of brush do you need to use
Where did you get your mesh? I can't seem to find it anywhere.. Thanks! ♡

a half of a big ball of yarn or a whole small ball of yarn :)

do we HAVE to use a pet brush
like... I have no pets and it'll be weird if I have a pet brush, with no pet.
Do to have to do the hair stranger part???
it's not necessary, you can leave it as it is , but it will give you a really fluffy texture :)
Can I use the root-and-tie method for this?
I'm not allowed to have any type of liquid glue in my house...
sure, it can be a little bit more difficult but you can use it :)
I'm super curious as to why liquid glue isn't allowed in your house...🤔
I don't have a pet brush or a pet is there anything i can use as a substitute?
yes, you can use a wig brush or a simple comb :)
Apparently you can use a pet brush or a comb. If you use a pet brush start at the ends of the yarn, make sure that the yarn wefts are thick, don’t just fold the string in half, fold it like four times so it’s thick. If you decide to use a pet brush be VERY gentle.

I use acryllic yarn only. Wool will break off with time. Instead of mesh you can use cardboard and a crochet hook (poke holes) or a strip of fabric and a yarn needle.
does the boiling water method work for yarn hair?
no, It doesn't work :( you have to straighten the hair with heat like you do with human hair ( but not at a super high temperature ) ...

not really, you can use a wig brush or a hard bristle brush :)... or you can experiment with other brushes :)

No... it works with polyester yarn aswell... I’ve done it and it’s heat safe
Does anyone know what brand of yarn is being used here?
Not sure how well it works with acrylic yarn, but i use a boil wash to straighten and tame my doll hair
wow! this is so cool! love your vids!
thanks :D
I love this video and i am subscribing!
yaaay !!! thanks for subscribing :) and welcome !!! hope you enjoy the rest of my videos :D
NANArt I bet I will!😊
Why isn’t mine working 😭
I’m using acrylic yarn, but it won’t unwind. Every time I brush it, the yarn just tears.
how can you brush it that long?
I try one but it torn and much shorter than yours.
Does it depend on the brand? which makes it different?
(Btw I'd like to say sorry if this waste your time TvT;;)
yes, it depends a loooooot on the brand of yarn you use , i had also used a cheap mexican brand ( since im from mexico) and the "hair" turned out super short and without any shine :( , i would recommend you to use high quality yarn if you want to achieve a result similar to alpaca fiber the brand i use for this tutorial its red heart ( i don't know if you could get it in your country but it's a really popular brand , made and exported from the U.S.A) also you can experiment with the different brands available in your country to see what gives you the result that you want :) and don't worry ask as many questions as you like :) it makes me happy to read all your comments :D... hope you find this useful :)
thanks for answering my question :) I'll try to find the brand you recommended in my country
thankyou again and if it works I'll tell you a result XD
KiyokoB yes please tell me how it turned out , i would love to know :D !!!
one thing I've found is that you want to look for a yarn that's more loosely twisted together and not tightly twisted or felted together.
is it bad to reroot the doll too many times
that's correct , you should only do it one time, if you wanna change a doll's hair more times is better to make wigs so that you don't damage the doll's head :)
ok thnx
Does it have to be acrylic yarn?
unfortunately yes... if you want to straighten the hair, since acrylic yarn can handle high temperatures and gives the hair a beautiful shine :)
What if I dont have a rerooting tool?
@Jamal107 yea thnx I already found that solution😅😂
not to bother, but what is the brush she was using called in general? :3
it was a pet brush :)
NANArt Thank you! XD
big fan of your work by the way!
my yarn just brakes apart and I get left with sosososososos much fluff and short hair :( my wool is 8ply please help
hi, unfortunately yes ,you will end with a looot of fluff and yes, Your yarn will get shorter , thats why you have to add 5cm more to your desired length , also It can apear to be shorter when the hair is fluffier but believe me, once you straighten it it will be your desired length ,here in this tutorial i brushed the yarn wrong , that's why I made "how to make yarn wefts 2.0" If you have time and want to know more about this technique of hair making I recommend you watch my 2.0 version of this tutorial :)
Is it possible to do this without the mesh?
yes, you can use a wood stick or even a pencil :)
Won't the acrylic melt and damage my hair straightener? :o
If you have it on high heat then yes, it will melt the yarn. U can wipe off the melted yarn from the straightening plates once ur straightener cools though. I keep mine around 250-300 degrees Fahrenheit for straightening the yarn
were do u get mesh??
most craft stores have something similar to it in the needle arts area, like cross stitch and stuff, or you could always go to a hardware store and look for something like it there in the garden department. I think something similar is used for making flower beds in yards where you only want it to be in one section. If all else fails there's always amazon and ebay.
you can get mesh in a hardware store ( like home depot or a local hardware store) or in a craft store ( si eres de México en parisina las venden o en fantasias miguel) ;)
what if I dont have the thing to make the hair to be straight?
ummm you can leave it fluffly or maybe use a normal iron ( the one you use for clothes ) in the lowest temperature setting
NANArt thank you!
How much did you use, cause that's the length I want
Jackeline Frost 20cm it will end at waist lengt wich is 15cm aprox
NANArt cool thanks
