      To my understanding it was DJ Cash Money who came up with the battle style turntable orientation. He's from Philly so I guess that's why it became known as the Philly style. This was a great video overall, big up.

    DJ Chance - THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! i'm only 26 minutes in so far and it has been incredibly helpful. I have been producing for years and just decided I should learn a little DJing as well. So I bought this controller and had NO IDEA what I was doing. I was on serato's website watching their tutorials but it wasn't helpful for the actual controller. It was just showing me how to do stuff from my laptop. So I searched youtube and came across this video. I am so GRATEFUL. Keep making content! This is already so beneficial for me!

    @djchance the beat jump feature is useful for exactly what you mentioned-setting hot cues. For example, you find the start of the chorus or vocals and you set beat jump to 8 or 16 bars and jump back to find the previous hot cues.
    This makes it easier to do on the fly and ensure your phrasing is correct for layering, transitioning with breaks, etc. (obviously you need a little more attention with live music)

    On the cue button, I think I remember pri yon Joni mentioning its tiny cause turntables don't even have them. It's a little funny you made a star wars joke too, he'd love that. The tiny cue is just in case some one might want it but they are assuming ppl interested in battle style won't use them much

    OMG I love beat jump! I use it for an 8 bar intro lead into the next track. Say you have an acapella out you have a cue on the acapella out and a cue 8 bars back. You can use beat jump on the incoming track to go back 8 bars and its a smoother in than pushing play on the acapella start.

    Great tutorial, thanks heaps! My rev1 just arrived yesterday and am looking forward to putting it through its paces!
    It also occurred to me that the scratch speed buttons don't work for the basic scratches because they are only one click patterns... so in order to speed them up, one needs to speed up the "record" hand back and forth, not the fader clicks.
    Cheers again, and subbed! 🤟

  • @reillocb
    @reillocb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I actually use the crap out of beat jump, but first a bit of context. I'm somewhat of an intermediate bedroom/hobbyist dj that's getting back into it on the rev1 after doing house parties for friends back in the day when the numark idj3 was new. These days I'm looking to spin niche stuff. Right now I'm really happy with a 4 beat/half bar beat jump. I'm still in the process of setting up my library, and i do a lot of prep work during actual practice. I'm a musician and to me it's kind like sight reading, like sight mixing maybe? I know preparation and familiarity with your tracks is most important, but I have way more fun preparing my music while actually recording myself practicing mixing basics.
    So for example, setting cues while I'm playing. Say I'm actively spinning an unprepared track and I hear a part I wanna have as a cue point. I'll beat jump backwards on beat and set the cue point on the 2nd go round. Its functional and it gives my mix a bit of a performance pad moment. Especially with the 4 beats/half bar setting it kinda mixes the bars together in an interesting way. This works for going back to a loop point that doesn't have a specific cue set to it too. I'm a pretty spontaneous mixer, but again i'm literally just in my bedroom so I feel like trying anything and everything.
    Another really important use to my style and the reason I chose 4 beat/half bar beat jump is beatmatching with songs that have an extra measure in their structure. say I'm beatmixing track 1's vocals/mids over track 2's drums/lows. However, track 1's song has an extra measure right before the drop. Instead of letting the song structures get out of sync by that measure I beat jump track 2 backwards to keep the song structures in sync. otherwise track 2 would hit it's drop while track 1's vocal was doing its extra measure.
    Last things that come to mind are when doing performance pad shenanigans with the 4 beat/half bar setting i can jump forwards and backwards to spice up a repetitive part of the track, or how it can help a lot in a live setting to cover up little beginner mistakes like not having a proper mix in for the current track's outro but also not having a proper cue point for the outro so I just beat jumped back a bunch to reach where a more prepared DJ would've had a cue. to me, beat jump is just a really flexible way to move around while still keeping the beat.

      Pioneer didn’t pay me a thing. I don’t think the even know I exist. I buy my own pieces. It’s why I haven’t put out anything new in a long time. I can’t afford to buy piece after piece. This channel needs many more likes, subscribers ,shares to generate ad revenue or some “super thanks” patrons so I could get my hands on gear or sponsorships with some gear making companies. Thanks again for your support Dima.

    I just got the DDJ-REV1. I have it hooked up to my Mac and can hear sound through the laptop speakers. But no sound through headphones. I noticed you are using a splitter rca cable in the back of your rev 1 in the video . Is that going to one speaker monitor.
    Lastly the sides of the jog wheel when I turn they don’t do anything. The top part of wheel or platter when I touch works fine.

  • @anthonygato407
    @anthonygato407 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I play fairly developed progressive deep to straight up trance and techno but i like this layout of this controller. i like the size and the jogs seem a comfortable size and seems like the mixer area has enough room to not be cramped and the up fades are further apart.would used the pads for stems and loops. would be even dope to do a rotary knob fader mod to be a rotary mixer. only thing not ideal is how the eq knobs are far up from the level faders. with long fade mixes I like the EQ knobs close to or right next to the level faders for each channel like the 19inch rack mixer style or old pioneer 2 channel 300(?)

    • @anthonygato407
      @anthonygato407 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for controllers I like the pitch control to be put like this battle style. out of the way since its not so vital on controllers with sync and nudge buttons and jogs. they made the overall package so its not the kind that tries to impersonate a mixer and 2 decks but it is a controller being one single piece of gear that has functions that still allow a 2 decks and mixer style of spinning.

    for the tracking bank for the scratching where do i locate that and how do I set it up on the rev 1 I have had the controller a few weeks now.

  • @reillocb
    @reillocb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just double checked Pri Yon Joni's vid cause surprisingly the manual literally calls them pattern 1,2,3 lmao. On the tracking scratch modes, the pads go
    1: forward scratch/stab
    2: reverse scratch/stab
    3: baby + chirp combo
    4: 2 click flare
    5: crab scratch
    6: military scratch
    Also as far as cheating with tracking mode goes, I'll be using the fact that when you touch the platter it jumps back to the beginning to cheat beat juggling. I'm very interested in it, but man spinning static jog wheels just doesn't seem like the way to go about it. maybe I'll stop cheating once i upgrade to a rev7 or some other motorized platter lol
