      1) They attacked while Congress was in session. YES.....it was a coup attempt.
      2) They had zip tie hand cuffs in order to kidnap and mass murder Congress. YES, it as a coup attempt.
      3) They chanted that they wanted to hang Mike Pence and stop the election certification. YES....it was a coup attempt.
      4) It was actually a successful insurrection. They stopped Congress from certifying the election. That makes it a successful coup, no matter how short lived.

While I agree that the one here comforts me, the one from back then where he essentially yells at Manchin for opposing a voting rights legislation made me feel really disconcerted for some reason. I think it's due to how his anger in that other video was in response to something that makes us feel powerless to fix, and his anger validates our concerns. This one here feels more like a father telling a delinquent child to sit in their place and get educated!

Every law abiding citizen deserves the American right to vote. If you're only vocal on this channel, it's time to choose another one full of mislead people and talk to them. Honestly. "Daryl Davis it." (Put it on a Tshirt, Beau, I'll buy it).
Until they get a kind person that wont back down when they are verbally assaulted, they won't hear any of this rational information. If they don't hear rational information, we'll have this happen again.

It was like every one of Trump stooges was pulling the plan in different direction which can to a head when the riot began. At that point, EVERYONE, but Trump, know that keeping Trump in power would illegal the United States' standing in the world. They have a B.S. plan, not one but multi B.S. Plans. They ALL fall apart when The riot began. In a way, the insurrection started after Trump lost on Nov 3 and it was over on Jan 6. Ironically, base on what we know from reports a year later, the riot save democracy that day as it ruin the plans that were in place for Trump to remain in power. So in a way, Trump f**King himself and saved democracy that day. That is the BIGGEST F***K YOU anyone can give him. How bad does a person have to be to f**k himself over. I also find it particularly alarming that there is such a deep and strong aversion to education in this country currently. Not long ago, I lived with a family that was quite proud of the fact they were "uneducated" as if that is something to be boastful about. @@attritionwarrior Over 80 years later, we are still trying to figure out just how events unfolded in my grandparents' case, why and how were they "denounced" and by whom? Because over 40 years after Franco's death, there are still enough francoists and right wingers in positions of power to block access to official archives, some of which were also destroyed during Franco's life and after his death. There is currently and for the last 20+ years, a huge effort on the part of victims' families to deal with the 2,000+ government acknowledged mass graves from the civil war period and the thousands of bodies still unaccounted for.
Our family is one of the lucky few that know where their executed relatives are buried. But we actually didn't find out where my grandparents were buried until sometime in the late 90s (they were executed in 1937 after a so-called "military tribunal.") Neither of them was military, my grandmother was 45, my grandfather was 55 and they left behind 9 minor children. All their assets and properties were "confiscated." My father was 7 years old when all this happened, two of his older brothers who were fighting in the war (on the Republican side, fighting against Franco) also died during the war. From information gathered from neighbors, it is entirely possible that my grandparents were denounced to Franco's forces when they took over the province by relatives who wanted to take their properties and assets. Those are the kinds of things that can happen and often do happen during civil conflicts, neighbors against neighbors, family members against other family members.
When Franco's troops took over an area, they set about doing a "limpieza" or "cleaning out" of any political dissenters, basically anyone who presented any kind of threat to their control of that area. So anyone who would have the inclination or means to mount any opposition or organize any kind of resistance was eliminated. Anyone who was involved in unionizing of workers, any political dissenters, teachers, artists, writers, anyone who opposed the Catholic Church in any way was quickly rounded up and killed or imprisoned. In the province where my family is from, the Civil War was "round 2" as Franco had commanded the forces that put down the 1934 miners' revolt, although on that occasion he was doing so under the auspices of the Second Republic. A couple of years later, he would head the military coup that started the civil war.

I was born 20 years after all this happened, but I was witness to the deep wounds that were left behind. My father was never able to truly reconcile his losses and suffered his entire life with issues of depression and anxiety. Imagine that, having lost both of of his parents at the age of 7, then being separated from the rest of his siblings, as you can imagine, no one was able to raise all of them together in the middle of a civil war so they all went to different family members. In addition, my father was raised by an uncle who ended up betraying my dad's older brother. After the fighting was over, my uncle went back to his village and was hiding out in the mountains nearby as he knew Franco's forces were actively looking for him. He contacted his uncle (the one that was named as my dad's guardian) because he wanted to see my dad. What his uncle did was to turn him in to Franco's forces and they sent out a unit to hunt him down. He fought them as long as he could and then killed himself with is last bullet to avoid being captured as he knew he would have been tortured and killed anyway.

Your premise is based on some other person that your not for sure about their title or role or privy to the events recorded from 1st hand facts. That leads to a slippery slope start into a discussion that is evaporated because a common understanding of facts can’t be established. So I can’t comment any further on what your comment is about outside of the historical public record of facts in regard to the Coup against the Hawaiian Kingdom. Let’s be very clear,…..
Their is No othering this historical event.
The Hawaiian Kingdom was not complicit in its own demise. This historical event is not complicated in understanding that one of the parties was the clear aggressor. A mighty military nation (United States) sent its troop to a Remote Island Kingdom to take it by force and hold its queen captive and worse was not ruled out if necessary. The American Government drafted a carefully written legal letter to add a historical footnote to what America did but hold back its culpability just enough to protect her (America) from a fortune in money that would have to be paid to the island people. The letter ended up being a legal document protecting America more so than a outright accountability for the coup of a sitting monarch.
But let’s not get off the main topic which is the fact that Coup come in many forms and not all of them leave a ton of innocent women children and men slain.
The Hawaiian Kingdom Coup is 1 example I was adding to further the conversation.

Said media is adept at convincing us that those from the other party are all either stupid or evil. I keep telling people that unless you’ve lived in a society in the middle of civil break down ( ex- civil conflict, revolution, war), you cannot know what that is like. I was an American kid in Iran in the 1970’s because my dad was a flight instructor for the Shah’s military. Helicopter pilot from Vietnam. Short version of the story is that we were some of the last Americans that got out of Iran before the hostages were taken. We left the morning after a taxi cab blew up outside our house the night before. Loudest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. A lot had happened before that decisive incident but for some reason my parents were in denial. So then there’s grown up me in 2016 getting all the warning signals on a potential civil breakdown here in our comfy USA where people freak out if they cant get their cigarettes, beer and pizza down the street. Believe me when i say almost no one in this country is ready to handle civil disruption. No reliable food, schools and institutions close, anxiety sets in. I could go on I guess. The people who say they want $h!@ to hit the fan do not know what they’re asking for. Every war vet I know does not want to go back to that crap and are affected forever by it, can never take stability for granted.

More people died during the BLM protests for fucks sake, also with a hell of a lot more destruction to buildings and property as well. What coup attempt or insurrection have you ever heard about where those attempting it didn't have any actual weapons, and the one person killed by a weapon that day was that woman getting shot by a security guard while trying to break into an office where Pence was held up in? This doesn't mean what transpired wasn't awful and should certainly be condemned, but it's utter lunacy to pretend that it was a legit coup attempt. It was a violent riot that was incited by Trump, to pretend otherwise demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of what an actual coup-attempt look like.

I was glued to twitter keeping up with the news from that day. And saw a tweet about how the national guard was being deployed. I breathed a sigh of relief, then about ten minutes later saw another tweet from the same person saying the request for the national guard had been denied. Historically, the best preventive measure against fascism has been a strong left wing. The US had two right wing parties for decades. They now have a right wing party with liberal social talking points and a fascist (extreme right) party which pretends it is merely conservative. Representative democracy at best is liable to tyranny of the majority and at worst is liable to become mask off fascism as soon as public pressure from the left is on the wane. The rest of the world acknowledges that capitalism is the dividing line between right and left. If Bernie were a democratic socialist as he claims, he would be the lone national representation for socialism. He us in fact a social democrat (not sure why he always inverts them) and so marks the furthest left possible for US politicians at a national level. But, based on the dividing line of whether one supports capitalism, he is still right wing, just at the very edge of that ideology. There are a whole host of other ways to organize society but we are only ever shown variations on a single way. And that single way, global corporate hegemony supported and abetted by state power has been and continues to be catastrophic in its consequences. Think outside the box, do your own research, question your presuppositions and study both history and prehistory. Or not. You have agency over yourself and I don't side with those who would take that from you.

It was a while ago so I have forgotten most names, dates and places. But I didn't forget the important take home that no one talks about. One third of the people you know will shove you in the oven, lock the door and stand there and listen to you scream. It is true that only one in six WWII soldiers actually shot at the enemy, but motivation was lacking and we fixed it in boot camp by the time we got to Vietnam. Given the right circumstances I would do it. That so many seem hot for the conflict probably relies on many different reasons, most of the not true but believed whole heartedly. That's all you need.
