I hate posting long uncut gopro clips like this, but I had a lot of people in disbelief that these fish were actually biting the spinner. So I want to make it clear to see that these were all strikes and not snagged fish. Hopefully you enjoy the cast to catch salmon action!

@@ccmusic2249 in-line spinners and spinnerbaits are two different animals....plain inline....fethered/fur inline and rubber skirt inline are completely different animals

I've got a couple questions,
1, do/did the kings meat hold up just as good as the more chrome one?
do you catch any regular run of the mill salmon, or are they Atlantic and P.N.W. that come to that part of where you were fishing?

If your asking if the meat of the brown king's when they are in the river is good like the silver ones then it's pretty similar the brown ones are just leaner

@@FishFray Thanks man...much appreciated yah everybody has been telling me if you use flourocarbon you would lose more fish..but you didn't seem too...I have 2o pound Seagar flourocarbon and I will buy 200plus yards of 40 pound braid...I have a 8 foot medium and a okuma size 4000 reel...I'm all set...

Biggest one I ever caught (pushing 30lbs) was on a soft plastic. I was taking a break from not catching any salmon, and went up into one of the bayous of the Manistee, for some pike action.
I was using a big, 4.5-5" "minnow"...just jigging it along some sunken brush. Just as I finished the retrieve, just a moment before it came out of the water, the salmon came out from under the boat and nailed it.

I live in ny, really close to the salmon river and I’ll tell you right now in the 7 years I’ve fished there I’ve seen one coho salmon actually strike a bait. This is because of the amount of pressure on one body of water, it causes them to never bite almost ever

I'm from Ontario and Kings do bite out of agression in the rivers. I've watched them follow spinners and smash them like pike. Keep on keeping on man!

Didn't someone give you any line too? Ever heard of backing? You were at least 5/16ths of a inch short of that spool lip, lucky you were casting a brick, as gear ratio and casting distance were un-necessarily restricted. A click on a front drag has always been far far less than one on a rear drag reel, It may be a hair finer, but always leaned that way. A Salmon's mouth is all bone, got a Jensen hook file? You were horsing, beef sticking those fish, expect pull offs.
I fish the grand river, st, Joseph, white river, and the rogue river.
Were you running flouro leader? Or straight braid to the spinner? Nice vid 👍

They will bite en thing red or pink can just be a pace of drift wood painted pink or red .. salmon kill all fish when entering the river so everything is food or a target for them to hit

This is in NW Michigan, they are running down south as well here
Sconnie native here, they are staging in harbors along the Michigan coastline here right now about 20fow. Not many fish in the system, but give it a few weeks. Working the piers would be your best bet at the moment. Our waters are shallower than Michigan so the runs don't correlate quite as well. Tight lines

Don’t tighten your drag as much that’s why there spitting it
spoons and spinners work great on salmon and steelhead if you know how to use them right. bait works well if you sit in a hole all day casting at the same fish. spinners and spoons are best fished covering water and fishing places float and drift fisherman wont or cant fish. never hurts to fish after a bait fisherman or fly fisherman has moved through.

I think the fish in MI act differently than the fish in the Northwest. I have seen guys just nailing steelhead in clear water standing right over the top of the fish.....that would never happen in the NW. Also in our water, when a king jumps like that, it means they've been snagged on the body.
in general, our fish jump when snagged also

Great videos man. Been following you for a while now and this is nice that you threw in something different. Btw I love those spinners. Got them in the spring for coho and man they are killers. Caught multiple coho on them and throwing them for kings now.
Sweet shots in the beginning, especially the shot when you focus on your setup. If I'm using hardware like that I usually run alot heavier of a leader. Keep Killin it brother
do you fish earlier in the run(when roughly was this) and closer to the mouth of the river? Fishing closer to tippy on manistee around the bend and below dam wondering if they would still hit so we dont have to just floss

Don't let the haters talk their shit, I fish those same Arctic Spinners every Fall in Michigan have caught Kings, Coho, Steelhead and Native Brown Trout. I've used them everywhere from the Kalamazoo River, Manistee to the Betsie and while not as effective as floating spawn, you throw a lure like that enough times in front of an aggressive fish like that and sooner or later it's going to piss them off enough to smash it.

Up here in our neck of the woods (Michigan), the salmon runs are better than they've been in 30+ years due to much better DNR management and reduced stocking. Keeping a few won't hurt the population.

I am used to fishing for smaller trout, so I'm not sure the gear I need for salmon fishing. May I ask what line you use? Monofilament, braided, or fluorocarbon? New to salmon fishing smaller rivers. I bought a 10.5MH baitcaster. My intent is to float fish, but throw some spinners too. I know the 10.5 is a little long for that. What rod do you throw your hard baits on? Could I downsize on length for float fishing too? I’m used to float fishing larger rivers for steelhead with a 13ft. Thanks!

Oh how I love Michigan and it's amazing fisheries. Every year I've been to Baldwin(15) years there's been a bmw from New York to fish the Pere Marquette. There are big ones in there tho, my biggest produced 35lbs of meat🙏

Anyone know the hook sizing on these Arctic Spinners? I know certain rivers don't allow trebles with a gap of over 3/8 inch..

Idk if it works there but maybe you could try twitching a jig. We do that here in WA state and it works well

Hey Fish Fray, have you tried fish the spinner upstream more and make it turn in front of the fish so its deeper down wehn it turns in front of the fish, because it seems they are protecting teritory like wehn we fish for atlantic salmon in denmark. Upstream fishing is clearly more effective if you know how to use it in denmark. Watch Andreas Lyngø on youtube you will se a lot about spin fishing. And if you want the same spinners hes using search for spintec on the internet.
I do try to get an upstream presentation with the spinners but sometimes with these ones it's hard to get the blade to turn that way

Unfortunately a lot of rivers have hook and tackle restrictions
who cares if youre flossing or whatever, you dont have to prove anything. as long as youre not purposely setting the hook every 5 sec, its all good. kings are fun to fight, youre having a blast and thats all that should matter

I'm from washington so I'm not sure if the fish react differently but i do good on spoons and spinners. Recently I've been wondering if i could get one to hit a spinner bait i would use for bass.

Not always the most productive way to get it,but it definitely works! Pretty cool feeling when you get to feel the fish smack the bait. We always had good luck using thunder sticks for them.

Hey, are there any regulations in Michigan on how long your fly rod can be to fish for them? Can you use a double handed fly rod?
No length requirements that I know of , a lot of people do spey fish
