    That was an all-time-great Irish defense. Manti T'eo, for all his off-the-field publicity afterwards, was the heart and soul of that unit. It was an honor watching him play that season.

      Yes, this goal-line stand holds up still as huge - as does the famous one Dick Butkus was part of at Illinois, which is legendary. Butkus and his college team stopped four straight runs inside the five. Some called it the greatest goal line stand they ever saw.

    1) Forward progress was stopped 2) His left elbow hit the ground before he even got the ball to the goal line.

    People are still arguing about this call? The official call was: forward progress had stopped, whistle blew. The replay was to see if any part of the ball had crossed BEFORE the whistle blew. When the whistle blew, and where the ball was when it did was inconclusive, therefore game over. I saw a sideline cam, think it was Stanford Media that had good audio, you can see a good shot of the ref running over and blowing the whistle before Taylor starts to spin. I would imagine they wouldn't post that in too many places though...

      It's ok. Stanford made a more epic finish by beating the Irish on a game winning drive. It overshadows this burden of a play.

    • @chrism7574
      @chrism7574 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the problem though, forward progress is to benefit the offense, so the defender doesn’t just pick the runner up and carry him back. On a 4th down play, the referee should never be calling the play dead for forward progress unless it’s on of those pile ups where the player can’t possibly move forward.
      Here, the referee never gave the RB a chance to spin and lunge. Poor officiating, in my opinion, because I don’t see any conclusive proof that a body part was down before the ball crossed the goal line. If forward progress wasn’t called, it probably would have been a TD after the call standing on the replay.

    What people do not understand is that this play would not have ended the game even if it was called a touchdown. Notre Dame had gotten the ball first in overtime and Tommy Rees had thrown a touchdown pass to TJ Jones. Pending the extra point, the game would have just gone into another overtime.

  • @FrancoDFernando

    I'm not referring to Lizzy Seeberg in the rape case. Seeberg's death caused a different girl to not file a rape report with the police. Again, it was a ND football player who violated the new girl.
    Seeberg DID tell the police. She reported it. They didn't bother to pursue it further until several days after she died.
    The Declan Sullivan case was criminal negligence. Call it an accident if you must, but when winds are that fast, there's no reason for his superiors to allow him up there.

    Yes I am a Notre Dame fan but i admit right and wrong no matter what. As a FAN OF FOOTBALL that "Stands as Called" statement was correct. I understand we have Irish haters on here but for you to say "Stanford should have won" or "They got screwed" then obviously your just pissed off because we won. In case you didnt pay close enough attention HIS ELBOW WAS DOWN BEFORE THE FUCKIN BALL CROSSED. So...If it wasnt completely clear to the officials then indesputable evidence was the correct call.

  • @encycl07pedia
    @encycl07pedia 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nope. You can see around the 4:30 mark that his elbow hits the ground only AFTER he crossed the goalline. Before it's close to the ground, but it's not touching the ground.

    again, this could all have been prevented if Kelly practiced indoors. he was warned numerous of times that the wind speed would exceed 50 mph and he choose to practice outdoors. As someone who is the head coach and older than everyone else on the field, he should have been responsible for the well being of his players, staff, and volunteers FIRST. The university had nothing to do with this, Brain Kelley is the man who makes the final decisions, he is the man responsible. Stop deluding yourself.

      Mark DeVaughn Good thing history didn't start in 2012; your team is a blip on the map & back to bottom dwellers when David Shaw finally takes an NFL job. I'm not saying BK is great, but seriously, you're in an "argument" that can't be won & like I said...still no title/playoff appearance (the grass not green team does)....

    • @markd.5471
      @markd.5471 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Taunting over "no playoff, title game appearances" implies a history not much older than 2012. There's no doubting ND's huge impact on game, but...
      Let's talk since 1993: How many 10-win seasons/Top 10 finishes for ND? Stanford 76-18 (.808) since 2010. Sounds just like Notre Dame...in the '70s.
      I'm only arguing the symbolism in this game. Irish won the battle, but have lost the war -- and it's not even close -- since.

    4th and goal play that was a touchdown. He was never down since he was on top of other players and when he reached over the line that was a touchdown and he was never down before that. ND would've f'ed up in 2OT and Stanford would've won. ND beat nobody good this year and they are overrated and Te'o is the most overrated player in the league. He wasnt the best defensive player or the best linebaacker.

    Not saying it was a bad call, but it definitely could have gone the other way. Somebody coming out later saying, "Oh I would have made the same call, we believe they got it right." is a very easy thing to do. Doesn't mean it was the right call.
    Forward progression is all up to the ref, and the whistle obviously hadn't been blown so that isn't the case.

    Google ncronline notre dame. First result.
    There you can find out about the rape, a case which didn't involve Lizzy and was never even opened because of how Lizzy was silenced. I think "terrorism" is an accurate portrayal of what ND players do to their victims of both sexual assault and rape. And let's not forget slander!
    ND Terrorists. That's accurate, but I think Date Rapists has a better ring to it, although you just straight out rape them, no dates. Just parties and violent coercion!
