Hey Kent - you can, but there's a caveat - to keep it discrete and separate all the way to the outputs, you can only load true stereo effects after the mixer block. Otherwise, just pan the Acoustic to one side and the amp output to the other. Hope that helps!
The acoustic sound is running directly out of the XLR outputs into Pro Tools in these examples, so it's not going through the amp at all. Hope that helps - the video shows how to pinch the signal to the amp over L6 Link.
really cool...you guys are moving way ahead of the pack

I would like a video with one of the signals applied with a harmoniser to add a second lower octave or split the same setup in two different tunings, creating multiple sounds while playing one thing at a time but in any case I appreciate simple instructions like this from Line 6 for providing support after the sale too..
Hi Tim - you can do that if you use the mixer pans - the 1/4inch output is the same as the XLR output. So you'd make a dual tone, and pan the Variax left and the magnetics to the right. Then you can use either the 1/4 inch or the XLR for either output that you'd like :-) Hope that helps!
The thing people don't understand is the combination of this stuff can open you up to a lot more possibilities with complete flexibility. Whatever sound you can think of becomes available to you in the simplest way once you get the logic behind it. A little application goes a long way. This is so much simpler than previous effects units. Ever tried to get your head around some of the old multi effects units brought out by Boss for example..Who have followed line 6 by making their's simpler.
hi sean.I bought a used JTV and the owner said he never did update. My question is, is it possible if I want to, do firmware update for the 1.71 and not for the last, or the monkey does automatically update to the latest version? thanks
Lol. Sorry Steve! Hold VIEW to get into the Preferences, and page down until you get to the Input section. Set the inputs sources differently. Then go back to the pedalboard view, and select the amp block. Hit the MOVE button, and use the arrows under the ENTER key to move the amp up to a separate path. At that point, the paths are separate. Hope that helps! S..
It is true at the moment. For a volume pedal, this is usually exactly what you'd want - I want to make sure that my volume pedal (which is post amp) is always live. However, I agree about it being less hip for other parameters. Hopefully that can be changed one of these days. Cheers, S..
Been busy, sorry folks! @Ocala - the build number was odd due to it being a pre-release version, as I often shoot before a version is publicly released, and then often lag behind in updating to the "real" release version due to busy-ness. If you are having a hard time getting the pedal to work, note that if you are adding a Exp. for the first time, the "minimum" and "maximum" often default to the same value - thus moving the pedal wouldn't cause a change in the parameter. Hope that helps!
Hi Sean, Great vid..Love it and love your vids. I Have watched it several times, to make certain I have done every thing in detail correctly...My Version on the HD is 2.20, The "Mags" path, comes out the L6 link via the "Pinched" path. I call it a routed, path. The on board EXP1 controls the volume on the DT-50, as in the Vid, fine to the DT-50....The acoustics path, comes out via XLR'S, stereo L/R, into a P.A., with an external EXP pedal for volume, set to EXP2...Again like the vid... That almost works. Here is my problem: The on board Exp1 "Pinched" path, is still coming through to the stereo XLR's, along with the amp model as well, thus into the P.A. Even though the "Pinched" or Routed" part of the signal should be going straight to the amp at the"Pitched" piont, and not on to the mixer in the HD, and thus to the XLR's then into the P.A....The Mags/Amp signal, goes to the HD mixer after the " Pinch" piont. It also comes out 1 side of the P.A....thus the XLR's. I can confirm all this even in the head phone on the HD. Moving EXP1, brings that upper path with the Amp and Mags , up and down in the P.A on one side.. Hope explained it correct. Help please...
Sean - great video. CAn I do the same thing without the DT25? L output acoustic.... R output - Pickups. If so.... what changes would I make to the tone you created in Custom Tone
If you wanted JUST your acoustic patches to go to the PA, am I understanding that you can have the Acoustic Variax patches going direct to the PA without it going to an amp at all? If I've got an amp onstage for my electric sounds, but the song calls for just acoustic, can I then take just the acoustic patches out of the HD500 to the PA with out involving the onstage amp? From this video, that seems like a Yes, but want to be sure.
Line 6, if you're monitoring these posts ... is there any way to "pinch" the channel output of a dual path setup without using the L6 Link and the DT-xx amps to send it to the L / R outputs? Great video!!! Thanks Line 6.
Sean:awesome playing every time! My question is, can the Variax-Pod still send Variax acoustic sounds to the XLR out, and magnetics to the 1/4" out (rather than "pinched-off to the DT amp)? I use a Spider Valve MKII which does not have the L6 feature, but has a great power amp tone with the Pod. I want to use the split signal path to the amp and a monitor/PA, running simultaneously..Thanks.
Thank you for your great instructions. Now can you create a preset using the vocoder so that we can emulate Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton without sticking a tube in our mouths?
hi sean I do not understand a thing, the acoustic sound is running to amp too or direct to pa? How the mixer pod is configured in this patch? you are using the XLR outputs l and r? thanks
support of line 6 told me that the pedal expresiona recalls the physical position and not the parameter that you saved the patch, is this true ? if yes, that's too bad
Sorry Sean didn't work for me and I have the dream rig. I've followed the demo time and time again and its just not happening. I have the HD500X, DT50 Combo, the 69 Variax and the Mission line 6 pedal. I set everything as in the demo but only get the line 6 HD500X on board pedal working. Nothing on the Mission. I've faffed about and managed to get the Mission to do what the on board pedal is doing but nothing working on the Variax tone. HELP!!!
Hi Axe - to get the external pedal to control a parameter, you need to set the controller assignment for the desired parameter to "Exp 2". Hope that helps!
You explain everything really well except how to get that dual tone So frustrating that you assume we know how to do it and continue on as if we already know. I'm trying to work this out but I'm getting nowhere.
Sorry Steve! I think I mention it in another video somewhere. Here's how: select the amp block by moving the arrow over it. Hit the MOVE button. Then hit the right arrow button. You'll see the amp move up and create a dual path. Hit the MOVE button again to finish. Now you have two paths - you can move the blocks around and do what you need to. Hope that helps!
Line 6 Movies I ended up downloading the patch and editing from there. THEN I found out you have to take the battery out of the guitar when you do all this. Did a gig on saturday night with the Variax down tuned an octave on the E and A strings and had that running through a bass amp. I was so loud most of the crowd left and one woman came up to me with a shut up or I'll stab you look on her face. It was great!! What a great sound.
i agree the particular sound here is common and boring, but thats because EVERYONE uses it. to actually get that type of sound usually requires some doubletracking and/or studio effects. the video's just showing how you can get professional sounding multitracks very easily.
Hey Sean, I'm all good.... Had a great talk with Don at Line6... Thanx for all your and idea's....keep them coming.....
Great job of explaining, and good pace. Thanks.

Good on ya Sean. You're a beaut bloke and not at all stuck up!!

Cool, I can do that with the Pod X3 and a regular guitar also. Thanks for the tip!

loving my hd500! The key is to get really good speakers for it i think. I have some good monitors and it sounds great.
Awesome! Thanks Sean.
Wow that's so cool... I think I'm in love!!!

Sharing patches would be great =D

SO i would need to move some of the effects after the mixer in the patch you have on custom tones?
Line 6 continues to bend my mind! How often do even you Line 6 guys go, "Holy crap! That sounds awesome!"?
So say I want to run my guitar to the hd 500 than to my half stack would I still be able to combine amp models?
Thank you for your great instructions. Now can you create a preset using the vocoder so that we can emulate Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton without sticking a tube in our mouths?
My Dt 25 head blew up and not sure if I should invest in fixing it
Not sure it's worth it.
I really like Line6 gear.

Hi... cant we do the same with just a simple guitar.. and not a variax.??
As i cant afford a variax. I use an Ibanez. And i wish to get the tone
Can anyone tell me how this would work if your using the alternate tunings not the jtv? Would the mags clash on tunings?

This is also doable by splitting the signal Left and Right so it can be done live. I created a preset and I'm 60 years old so anyone can do it.
I have a nightmare rig with the DT's ...and I don't even drink
is it me or the guitar world channel dissapeared for a while?
*on

Didn't seem easy.
This is like college math.
That sure isn't my dream!I was thinking it should sound like music.
Tip#1 Sell the POD and get an Axe Fx,Tip#2 Reread Tip #1
Fail, cool guy but to difficult!
that was way too long of a video for such a common boring sound. I expected something more.
