Wonderful explanation from the doctor, thank you. I'd like to add that it's interesting how various cultures treat sexual relations and yet are able to judge polygny in such a negative light. For instance, here in the West a man can "date" numerous women at the same time and even have babies with them and he'd simply be called a "player". There would be no legal restrictions on him. Yet, for the same thing to be sanctioned through marriage that is viewed as evil with legal ramifications!
@SonjaElen I don't believe it's obligatory for there to be consent from the first wife, though I may be wrong. However, the wife has the right to seek divorce if she is not pleased with the marriage or feels she will not be treated equally.
Why do people like you always feel the need to comment on Islamic themes. Surely, the christians in this country have enough issues in your own church than to always comment on our way of life
I have never heard this explanation before, I thought women had no say as Allah Swt gave this to the men as their right and women cannot seek divorce if they opt out for this. I never knew our prophet peace and blessings upon him did not force this on other tribes. U hear so much about secret marriages etc and women willnot smell Jannah if they ask for divorce and do not accept this. it’s enough to turn the younger females away from Islam or more masculine as they trying to protect themselves
Why can't women have multiple husbands? Allah in his Infinite Wisdom prohibited this. In Islam men/women are equal spiritually but different physiologically and psychologically. The role of a man in Islam and the rights of children are for the preservaton of society. Polyandry leads to questions like who's the father? (dna test limited to time/place). Why can't I have a large family? (a pregnacy at a time). Why am I deprived of sex? (women can go without needing sex). What is a man/woman?

NEVER FORGET TO SAY "PBUH" WHEN YOU MENTION OUR BELOVED PROPHET MOHAMMAD (PBUH). JAZZA'KHALLAH KHAIRUN
Alhamdulillah I Appreciate The Way It's Being Explained
subhan Allah , this was so sound ! , barkak allah ya doc !

I thought it added a nice backdrop to the message.
