    Love, love, love Cuenca. Trying to decide if I want to live near Cuenca or Loja. You should check out Loja and Vilcabamba... thank you for the reminder. Hope to be there after the first of the year! Hope you recovered from your fall!

    I LOVE the hornado, juices and humitas I have gotten at that Mercado. The "corn" (Mote) is like hominy - very often you will find it on Ecuadoran dishes and even as a snack item in a bar. Love it. Dang I miss Cuenca....

    The best part of my trips top Cuenca are walking - everywhere. Especially along the Tomebamba.

    I took my husband to Cuenca and made him walk throughout the city. Unfortunately i just knew old Cuenca, I felt lost in nueva Cuenca, when I was a child all of that was just the woods where people would go to relax or have a picnic. Hopefully I can go back and enjoy another walk with my kids.

    • @KrisandMike

      We really enjoyed walking around the old Cuenca. Just beautiful. Thanks for watching.

    We'll be in Ecuador in two weeks for an exploratory. Cuenca is our first stop. Everything I see and read about it seems great. However, we're not city people either. We have a few other places in mind as well and three weeks to take it in. Can't wait.

    • @KrisandMike
      @KrisandMike  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds exciting. Make sure you walk around alot and not just take in the tourist areas. If you are not city people you may want to check some of the outskirts of Cuenca. Assuming you like this climate. Enjoy.

    We started our journey in Cuenca and ended up north of Quito. Tranquillo!! The high elevation can affect people differently. We are loving it! Our thoughts exactly on not city people, but enjoy “get always” .

    I really look forward to your videos each week! Mike does such an excellent job on putting the content together, sure you weren't a film producer in another life?? I would love to take the plunge and move to ecuador, but I am taking care of my 91 yr old mother and sadly cant travel with her. I am 67 now and am running out of time. Well I live vicariously thru you, keep those films coming.

    I love Cuenca. Love your video. I'll be there in two weeks. So, I'll just miss you. Latam Airlines has four flights to and from Cuenca daily. I arrive from Miami at 1:01pm and fly to Cuenca at 3: 24 pm. So, from Quito to Cuenca I'll be in my airbnb in an hour. This will be my last exploratory visit. Will probably gain 5 pounds during Cuenca Days. lol Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

    Hi Guys! I lived there in Cuenca for a year in 2015 as a short-term missionary.
    I have to say I am pleased the roof/ceiling in the Mercado has been cleaned. It was very nasty with mildew and who knows what else! I loved eating there as long as I didn't look up🤣
    Edit: Were most fruits and veges still a dollar per lb or kilo?

    Cuenca and Cotacachi are my favorite cities in Ecuador. I am not a beach person :-). As for the noise, Cuenca is small enough that you can live in the quieter surrounding country and still not be too far out of town. I have little issue with altitude in EC, but I did need some coca leaves to chew on when hiking up and down trails at high altitude.

    • @KrisandMike
      @KrisandMike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Yes we can't wait to see Cotacachi as well. We are just back from a 7km walk and it's a very beautiful area. As long as there is enough rainfall for lush gardens I think we can live in many places in this beautiful country.

    • @KrisandMike
      @KrisandMike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. So to answer your question it really depends on an individuals financial position and circumstances .If you plan on living in Cuenca part of the year in the condo then rent it the rest of the year I think that works well. There is high demand for Cuenca rentals. Just spread your assets around between Ecuador and usa. CDs are an option as well. 8-11% a year in Ecuador. All depends on what you want to achieve and how much risk you want to take.
