    I just came back from Ecuador last week. I believe we will move there with my wife in 5 years when my retirement will kick in.
    The food is so fresh and delicious

    Living in Ecuador, I am from Montana. I keep treating fruits and vegetables like they're expensive. When I'm craving sweets or snacks, I need to reach for fruit instead. Right now, I have wonderful peaches and mandarins next to my chair.
    My reason, what brought me here is sort of like prepping. When the world goes crazy Ecuador is a better place to be, the people, the food and the water.

    Totally agree about litter. Probably my #1 complaint. Dogs #2, very scary at times, been surrounded by 7 in the country where I live. #3 Crazy traffic, motorcycles weave in and out, bicycles at night no lights, cars double parking blocking streets, etc.
    #4 Puntuality; hours late. I volunteer with a youth orchestra. We are told to be on time. I"m the first one there, everyone else shows up an hour later. I have lived here 4 years and my Spanish is still bad and I am emersed 3-4 hours per day every weekday. So, I understand that frustration.
    But, I love it here and have a rich and rewarding life. I think #1 positive thing is the people. The kids in the orchestra are so sweet and kind to me. Never would 15 year olds in the US be so kind to a 67 year old man. After 4 years, I pretty much agree with all you guys have said. Take a look at the orchestra fb page: facebook.com/OSMURIO?mibextid=ZbWKwL

      @@KrisandMike If only I could, I would come tomorrow..I do however, have to wait until I'm sure my pension hit my European account..mainly because I know for sure, especially the country in which I was born, will do everything to avoid paying as they try to do with everyone...hence I'm staying until I at least know, if I have to fight them for that as well..sad old and broke colonial stealing - even from her own.. Thankfully there are still good lawyers in a few other countries but, I need to stay until I either get what's mine or, I have started up the cases via one of these lawyers....zzzz
      Somebody resently told me about corruption in South America - yes, I wonder if these people ever visited the old colonials....zzz ..but, we'll get there and, I'll be in Ecuador as soon I can....and counting down as you can hear 🤗

      @@KrisandMike Thanks both of you and, I am sure I'll be fine but yes, it's a sad way of leaving the old world...in the end most sad for these."leaders"
      I think - this about being good at hiding, is becoming a thing of the past in Europe Kris and Mike.
      A united Europe would in many ways be good but, I no longer believe in it.
      When you have a bunch of old Colonials who all want to be in charge, in charge of everyone and, in charge at all times, then I'm afraid nothing will work.
      I certainly don't want to be part of it. I don't expect Ecuador to be perfect - know very well it's not but, the climate and not least the Ecuadorian people are for me, winners and, I'll be there, hopefully without too much hassle..ready to visit the other countries down there as well..🤗

    Speaking of crime being worse in Ecuador, you may want to re-evaluate this judgement folks. My brother-in-law was just mugged in Edmonton, Alberta last month. 14 staples to close the gash in his head in addition to the broken leg. News Flash for you on this, the police refused to even file a report despite this being a violent assault crime. Throws any stats on crime out the window in Canada.
    Be careful walking your dog in Canada…and do not expect police to be keeping you safe. Not in Canada. Politicization of Crime Rates has completely skewed actual stats.

The idea of moving to Ecuador is very appealing, but I have one son and he lives here in Boca Raton, Fl. close to me. If you do have children, how do you manage being so far away from them? I agree with most of what you have experienced. Though, in Manabi area my chicken was absolutely excellent until the past 6 months and the village cook switched to packaged chicken! 😢 And the roasted chickens have always been more costly than in US (but way tastier). However, in Cuenca, the meals were great. A big bowels of chicken soup $1.50. ... . Regardless, ultimately the value is bar none great, altogether. Airfare is a bit pricy, but being in such a great location, the ocean, the green and blue, -just wonderful.

      Great question. We have felt no changes here since we arrived. If I didn't read the Ecuadorian newspapers I wouldn't know about the high crime. There are two reasons for that. One is we live on a stretch of small beach towns and most of the bad stuff is in parts of cities. The other and bigger reasons 80% of the crime is cartel on cartel. We are still concerned about it tho and watching.

To put it in perspective Guayaquil is the most dangerous city in Ecuador and it is 271 times more likely that you die from smoking in a given year than homicide. So the crime is serious and you should take precautions but you can for sure go out at night in the north of santa elena or south of manabi without any problems

    # 1 reason you mentioned is exactly the thing I could see right away in all the videos of Ecuador ,El Salvador & Nicragua I've been watching !! And that's why I'd love to visit !!! Not sure of living there & I also watched videos of why people are leaving those countries & coming back to U.S. ,too ! But, over all definitely positive I feel & healthier life is there !! And your #2 is also very very attractive & a very right thing I feel !! Things are way too expensive here in L.A.,it's ridiculous !! A pizza costs $25!!! It used to be like $5.99 back in the 80's !! Lol. Nothing's changed inside I bet as long as the sauce ,etc.,but worse now as they are GMO & fillers & all the bad things added !! Lol Avo toast costs $ 11.99 to $15.99 !! Lol. And it's about 1/3 avocado 🥑 in it compared to over there in those 3 countries !!! LOL
    2 bed apartment here is $ 2,800/ MO.!!! Even the studio costs about $2,000!!! Lol It used to be around $ 500 to $800/mo in 90's & early 2000's !! It's insane !! The most people here live with roommates !! Lol. Many leave back to their hometowns !!
    And not to mention crimes here ! Road rages !! Homeless issues ! So sad & crazy !!
    I believe it's the quality of life after all we really should think about !!! And it seems that is easily available in South Central America. Also East European countries & Nordic / Scandinavian countries !! And South America/ Central America are much closer ,not Argentina sadly !
    Thank you so much for this upload !!
    I bet your heart is much healthier for living there now !! And the hills train your hearts !! I bet !!! I wish if I could had taken mom there 10 years ago to live !! We've been watching videos of South America and Central America together .👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞

    Well, the cost of living for American's or Canadian'''s might be cheap because you had lived in a country that has a more stable ecomenic development and therefore substancial earnings, in Ecuador there are certain places that the cost of living is as close as any American city, because of the fact that Americans are moving to Ecuador and the local real estate business is taking advantage raising prices.

    How are you handling the taxes on your Canadian RRSP? Does Ecuador recognize the tax free status of capital gains and dividend within the RRSP. prior to withdrawal? I know they will tax the withdrawals as income and that there is a 25 percent withholding tax by the Canadian government at the source. No idea if Ecuador give you a credit on the taxes you pay to Canada.

    • @KrisandMike
      @KrisandMike  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So there is a tax treaty between Ecuador and Canada. It reduces the withholding tax to 15%. I am not an expert and each person is a little different depending on specific financial circumstances. Rrsps you can no longer contribute but you get to keep. All this assumes you are a deemed a non resident by cra. If you still have significant ties to Canada you can still be living here and be a resident of Canada from a tax perspective. Depending on your complexity it is worth getting financial advice. Basic info is on the cra website.

    • @Gravel-Cult
      @Gravel-Cult 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KrisandMike Thanks, that information is very useful. Did you end up keeping your RRSP and does Ecuador tax you on any capital gains and dividend income yearly? I can't find a answer on whether the tax free status is recognized by Ecuador so the content can keep growing tax free till you take it as income when you make yearly withdrawals.
      I know for Panama and Belize for example they only tax income earned within the country. I believe they call it a regional tax regime.

    • @KrisandMike
      @KrisandMike  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Gravel-Cult Yes we kept our RRSPs. The tax treaty ensures no double taxation. Only money earned in Ecuador is taxed here once you are a tax resident of Ecuador. However your should look into the details if you plan on being a resident of ecuador from a CRA perspective.

    If the litter bugs is the worst thing in EC, it is a great country. The Ecuadorians will eventually get it together regarding garbage. It's a cultural glitch. Dog poop? So minor.

    Is there no problem with narcos and violence in San José? Do you have good internet?

      There is little violence on the small beach towns like San Jose. Watch our video on crime. Internet is amazing here. We have fibre to our house outside of a small beach town. 350 up and down. Very reliable. Netlife is the Best on the coast. We are watching crime closely as things do get worse in the big cities and the north coast in Esmeraldas .
