    I'm a carpenter or was. I've been in lots of attics. Old farm houses typically are well vented and have wasp nests galore in the attic. When our govt went crazy and fought a war against asian beatles I started finding attics full of dead wasp nests. I was concerned. We moved to the city by chance and grew flowers but no bees. I got very concerned.
    I got honeybees again after a long break. It took years but now our flowers have bees. Oh boy we have bees of all sizes. Bought a camera and started taking pictures. I got bumblebees, carpenter bees, all sorts of wasps. There are bees that guard the flowers and chase off others but don't sting. I started challenging myself to photograph smaller and smaller bees.
    Point: its unbelievable the amount of diversity of bees and wasps in my garden. I keep finding even smaller bees. It's surreal. I am so happy to see that a little tiny yard on the edge of the city can have such a positive impact. The right flowers attract bees and birds too. It's my happy place in a pandemic. Thank God for my honeybees.

    This is my first time watching your channel and are really informational. I'm glad that you get right to the point of things. My husband was beekeeping several years ago until the colony collapsed. He stopped after that. Since I've been building our garden over the past few years, I noticed a difference when I didn't see many bees... not even bumblebees. So late last year (pre-pandemic) I convinced him sign up with me to take the NC beekeepers classes. We purchased a package of Italian bees (very mild..thank God!) in April and I'm now Madame Beekeeper in charge. So I'm educating myself and am truly excited about expanding our hive to several and raising Queens. We are on 3 acres in NC. Looking forward to continued learning and growing.

    I used to work with bees in Europe, and I have my bees here, Richmond, VA. I have never seen queens like that. I'm glad that they do so well. Hopefully offspring will be good too.

    Nice video. 👍. I’ve been trying to graft. Not much luck but I’ll keep at it. I did get one cell out of five to take. Gave it to my dad, he needed a Queen. Now we are waiting to see her hatch, breed, and hopefully come back and start laying.

    Very nice looking mating nucs! 👍 I pull out frames with queen cells and use them to make another nuc. I feel the same way about mowing right now. I wait and mow during the Winter on our place, less heat, bugs, and dust plus less chance of running over a fawn. I was wondering if you were going to sit in that bucket of patty mix! LOL! 😁

    Kamon, I didn’t see SHB until about 3 weeks ago. Started treating for them as soon as I started seeing them. Today I removed swifter sheets that had been in hives for 8 days and some of the sheets had at least 50 beetles on them. The mites, the SHB and the covid 19 needs to go back where they came from!

      Treat under your hives with permethrin. Gordon's has a farm product that's cheap. Look at Farm stores. Mix up two gallons per colony and drench the dirt at night. It works for me. Hives can handle a few beatles until they start making more under the hives.

    • @donbearden1953
      @donbearden1953 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Ries I’m finding permethrin at Tractor Supply’s website and there’s one close to me. They have a 10% and a 13.3%, which should I use? Are you saying spray about 2 gallons under the hive on the ground to soak into the ground?

    Kamon, I had success with my queen castles but I move them out faster but I don’t have a business like you do and I am retired now.
    Suggestion for videos: Combining hives would be good especially before winter. I imagine sometimes you may need to remove the weak queen and use newspaper between the supers to do so or another method you have.
    Winterizing in general. I am in NJ. Sometimes the winters are mild and sometimes cold and deep snow.
    Winterizing Nucs.
    Thanks, Mike

    Thanks Kamon, I haven't started my hobby beekeeping yet (still working on building my retirement home), but I've been using this time to learn from a few commercial keepers like you, Canadian Beekeeper’s Blog, etc, and a few hobbyist like Frederick Dunn, Vino Farm, etc, and lately I learned the term "Wash Boarding" and I'm pretty sure that's what I was observing at the beginning of this video when you were describing the entrances. Just guessing though. Stay cool and here's to the tractor braking down for a few months!! 😉😁🤦‍♂️

    I have tried and failed with the 2 frame. I thought I had a worker queen in one of them. The hive was robbed of honey , but not pollen. I went today to put my 3 nucs together and found a supersedure cell in there. Can or will this be a viable queen? Could this be due to the Dearth? I have given pollen patties and 1:1.

    I live in East Tennessee and am curious about the fall flow. I saw almost no honey production until late June and it lasted through middle of July. I didn’t harvest any honey as it seems like they made just enough for winter. When do you normally see the fall flow? Is the fall flow usually as much as the one we just came out of? Thank you for all the great videos. They are so helpful.

    • @mikeries8549
      @mikeries8549 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. I'm way north in central illinois. For me to know when to super for fall is hard to say or even if I should. It's unpredictable. About half the time our fall flow is insignificant as far as honey goes. Some years we get a small crop. Other years fall honey is the crop.
      How I know when: my nose gets a whiff of that goldenrod dirty gym socks smell then I put supers on and pray.
      Right now I'm stripping hives of supers so I can OAV for 25 days I hope...

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If we supered it would likely be the last week of August. I don't attempt to make fall honey here but if I did that is when I would do it.

      Order it from Home Depot or whichever big box lumberyard is in your area. It's meant for insulating ductwork so look in the heating and cooling dept.

    Talk about bushhogging. ...just about time the goldenrod,
    Joe pye and other stuff is blooming, my neighbor decides to mow off all his pastures...so along with the iron weeds he's trying to eliminate...so goes the fall flow weeds. No, he's not on my free honey list!

      @ابنآدم-ز2ف 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe time to get him on that list, even offer your help with weeding!
      Take the initiative and give him a jar of honey, tchichat with him that'll raise his awareness towards bees. For you! You see food source for your bees and other living things as well, for him it is just some annoying stubborn weed that need mowing!
