I love seeing young people discover the greatest music ever made! The 1970s were a great time for tunes and the Carpenters were a big part of that!

If most of us are forgotten as soon as we are gone, Karen is still fondly remembered and chances are that she'll never be forgotten.

So nice to hear the longer version with the sax solo. The Carpenters are a duo where almost every single song on every album is wonderful.

I saw the Carpenters in 1972. I was blown away by Karen's ability to drum and sing at the same time.(to see that, check out her singing and drumming through covers of the Beatles Help and Dancing in the Streets). I love the songs she sang --A Place to Hideaway (having gone through cycles of depression since I was 12 -I think it is a very relatable song._Karen's best song ? I nominate Trying to get the Feeling Again. Recorded in 1975 and then lost. It was found again by Richard and released in 1994 --11 years after Karen died.

Great brother & sister duo from the 60's-80's. Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "We've Only Just Begun", "Rainy Days & Mondays", "Superstar", "Close To You", "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)" & so many more.

The Carpenters version is one of the more famous ones, but I knew it by Donny Hathaway before I heard this rendition. He gave the song a little more of a gospel feel if you want to check it out. But this song was so popular that 11 other recognizable & diverse artists covered it also, some of whom are Andy Williams, Peggy Lee, Cher, Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Whiney Houston, Amy Winehouse & let’s not forget Ray Charles. A+ song! 😊

Know as One Take Karen because she would come in the studio and whether it was vocals or drums, NAIL IT the first time. Pure natural talent. I can't think of another female vocalist with the kind of low alto range she had. One to save for the holidays is Merry Christmas Darling. Not a cover, that song belongs to her.

Listen to Janet Baker sing "Where Corals Lie"...and realize she is doing it without a mic - therefore no proximity effect to selectively deepen the lower register.

I always believed that the Carpenters hit the right time in this world. Remember we had protests and the Vietnam War in the beginning of there careers. It lead up the early 80's and more stable times.

Yes he did! A great figure in rock but he sure knew how to craft a song for her voice. Whether intentionally or not, he gave Karen magic to sing! Thanks to God for both these talents. PS--I miss you so much Karen, even in 2024.

She certainly defined the middle of Middle-of-the Road. Her low notes were a product of extreme close-miking, a quirk of physics know as the proximity effect.

RIP beautiful ladies Karen Carpenter and Amy Winehouse both covered this great song It was long thought that Leon Russell who wrote this song was about his long time muse singer Rita Coolidge, who claimed to be the inspiration and called it "the most beautiful song ever written." They met in the late '60s when Russell was one of the top session piano players and Coolidge was getting started as a singer. Russell wrote a song called "Delta Lady" about her that Joe Cocker recorded in 1969, but at a 2015 concert in New York City, he said "A Song For You" was not about her. Peace out.
