Universal Pictures & DreamWorks Animation was initially on board with this, but after looking over everything they'd come up with the film makers realize something. This wasn't the 3rd film sequel they had wanted to make. it was too dark, too somber, it was very close and tone to Cressida Cowell Books, but that was the problem. The decision was made to make the film an amusing, heartwarming, light-hearted, action adventure, and enchanting experience with only a few elements of somber and scary atmosphere...just a little bit.
