I must have watched a dozen of videos trying to explain pickleball rules and I was still as dumb as when I started. I agree with others, this is definitely the best video I've watched! I am now confident to go on the court. Thank you.
If you are accustomed to tennis rules, then it's difficult to understand pickelball rules. The issue for me is trying to understand why some of the rules are the way they are. It takes away the fun of playing when you're always thinking rather than playing. I like singles way more !
This video is the best in explaining the basics of pickleball!!! I assist members of our local Senior Center in learning the game. I recommend this video to all beginners!!
Without a doubt the best video I have seen explaining to a beginner how to play Pickleball. I took a lesson and this video did a far better job explaining the basics of how to play and how to keep score than my private lesson did. Thank you for posting this video🙂
Totally agree with everyone! THE BEST intro to pickleball rules video! Clearly explained, short and concise! Would love to see more pickleball videos from Robert! Thank you!
Just to be clear, and make sure I understand. When the first serve of the game occurs, it’s 0-0-2, and your partner (server 1) is skipped after side out? With that said, you’re always server 2, even though you were the first server? Great video btw, thanks for the content.
Best pickle ball rules video! Thank you for your comprehensive video of the rules. I have found other videos miss one or more of the finer points of the game!
I landed on the correct video. Awesome explanation, I have couple of questions. (1) In case of doubles, When the ball returns after a serve , any one in the team can hit the ball? (2) Can team partners switch boxes during play. (3) What is the size of the court ?
Good video. Rather than creating my own video with basic rules, I created a playlist to yours since you already explain the pickleball rules very well.
!!!Excellent!!! Description, you made it make sense and very easy to understand. Makes me feel confident with what’s going on so now I’m ready to got out and play Pickeball.
Hi! Quick question. Say the first server serves the ball and our team faults. Does the second server start on the left side? Or does each server have to start on the right side? Asking because we were having a friendly debate about this last week and I want to make sure are playing accurately. Also would you be able to make a more in depth video about the odd and even/1st and second server rules if you haven't already? Thanks in advance!
Probably one of the best beginner videos I have ever seen. Just started and of course went to YT. You were #7 on the search for "pickleball rules" this year (filter). Maybe next time you can cover the lines and what is in and out. The kitchen seems to be the most controversial. Thanks!!
Very helpful for me as a total newbie. Thank you. I'd strongly suggest different transition music for future videos. It was the only negative part of the viewing experience. Cheers.
Sorry, if I missed it, but I’m a little confused on what side of the court to stand on while serving in doubles play. I understand it is determined by even/odd scoring in singles, but in doubles, can you and your partner randomly decide what side to serve from?
I’ve seen another video where the person said you can step in the kitchen before the ball bounces in it if you anticipate the ball bouncing in there. Could you clarify?
I am a bit confused about scoring rules regarding doubles. As stated in rules: 4.B.1: The correct server and receiver, and their positions are determined by the score and the players starting positions in the game. 4.B.6.a: At the start of each side out, service begins in the right/even serving area. 4.B.6.b: When the team score is even, the teams starting servers, correct position is at the right/even serving area. When the teams score is odd, the starting servers correct position is at the left/odd court. I’ll stop here. Does that not contradict 4.B.6.a? Question: once there is side out, do we as doubles partners return to our original court position? That would makes sense then with the above rules - but we would have to throw out section 4.B6.a What am I missing?
Re the receiving end of the first serve....do they need to be behind the line? I played with someone today who stood mid-court to receive the serve and said it wasn't a rule that you need to stay behind the court line. I can't find anything about this on TH-cam. Thank you.
Staying in the mid-court while receiving is not against the rules, but it’s a disadvantage because you have to let the ball bounce before you hit it, so it’s ideal to stay behind the line in order to cover more ground 🙂
Yes that’s correct you don’t need to stay behind the court line to receive the ball but it’s best to to cover that whole court area cause it’s easier to run forward to get that ball being served to you vs being in the mid court and the ball passes behind you, it’s harder to run backwards to get that ball. I hope that helps
this is great info. The scoring is the hardest part for me! I have been playing tennis for years, and I thought tennis scoring/rules were confusing to pick up. I look forward to playing more pickleball thanks
By far, this is the best video on explaining the rules of pickleball. Thank you.
Glad you think so!
Agreed.

4:34 is it only the kitchen linke that is out on the serve, or is the sideline also out on the serve?
Sideline too
I’ve seen another video where the person said you can step in the kitchen before the ball bounces in it if you anticipate the ball bouncing in there. Could you clarify?
This was really helpful.
Thank you
I agree with the others who have commented that this video is the best explanation of the scoring rules.

Thank you

Thank you! Cheers!
Great video! Explained perfectly

This is amazing !

I am a bit confused about scoring rules regarding doubles.
As stated in rules:
4.B.1: The correct server and receiver, and their positions are determined by the score and the players starting positions in the game.
That would makes sense then with the above rules - but we would have to throw out section 4.B6.a
What am I missing?
Can you land in the Kitchen after a smash??? And, can you land out of bounds after a smash/winner??? Please explain
So good...thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Do you have to switch sides with your opponents at any time during the match? Like after 6 points?
Great question. No switching sides until the end of the match, if you choose.
So if you start out 0-0-2 being the first server and if you get the first point, are you still at 1-0-2 when switching to serve on the other side?
Yes you are correct
This video is exactly the rules he's explaining. Other people think some rules are legal when it's actually illegal.
Re the receiving end of the first serve....do they need to be behind the line? I played with someone today who stood mid-court to receive the serve and said it wasn't a rule that you need to stay behind the court line. I can't find anything about this on TH-cam. Thank you.
Brenda, great question. You cannot be in the kitchen when receiving a serve. I hope tha answers your question.

Thanks for the comment
FWIW You might be familiar with "side-out" scoring from volleyball. When you aren't serving your goal is to get the serve.
