No. Do not use jake brake coming down hills in ice and snow. Stab brake only. Even on wet pavement from rain you need to gauge the situation, as you could have your trailer try and pass you and end up jackknifing.
i truly and honestly think we all need to take some time out to give kevin a round of applause for litteraly having the greatest posture possible on gods green earth for a truccer😂😂😂😂😂😂💪🏼
You handled the ice and snow really well Kevin and having Tonya as a copilot must keep you amused. Winter driving stinks but it’s just part of the job, but satisfying when the season’s over. Really enjoy your videos and sound effects.
Start trucking tomorrow and have been learning and studying and practicing for awhile now but no matter how many times I hear “dropping loads” or worse “taking loads” my juvenile side still chuckles 😝😝😝🤨
@@TheJoyofTrucking I may still be one of the few left that still holds a little sense of magic for this particular career. Your husband was nice & calm...I am from Southern Cali...from 1997 through 2006, I was an OTR Trucker...from 2006 till now I've been driving in Southern Cali...I have been thinking about going back out there?
That "old steam engine" in Cumberland is Western Maryland #1309. She was recently restored and entered service in 2021 after 64 years of being idle. Love your videos, don't love seeing all that ice, snow, and cold!
I really enjoyed watching your video. My husband and I drove from Maine where we live to Pa all the time. We were out M-F. Usually home weekends. He passed last Jan 16th so watching your video was bittersweet. I've been on the same roads and sat in your seat doing the same thing as you. I took so many photos and only started trying my hand at videos. We were on the road for 3 years together and 2 apart. We drove from Maine to South Carolina and as far Wrst as Ohio and Michigan. It was so much fun being with him in the truck. I loved it dearly.
I remember the cabbage patch!! Indeed! Kevin, I sure hope you're doing better by now. Sick sucks on a truck, I'm sure! Take good care, and, as always, travel safely...
Hi Tanja! Hubby and I are on our way from Missouri to Tampa FL. We continue to enjoy your channel and also wanted to mention how interesting it is seeing all the stuff being hauled on open trailers ( is that the correct term?) huge logs of tree trunks, giant mechanical parts like 7-ft diameter tubes - maybe fan cages; wind turbine propellers, modular home pieces, and things we can only guess what they’re for. Enjoying iceless roads today, unlike you two. 😮. Safe travels!
My guess is those headlamp assy lenses are plastic. I would think that using an ice scraper over time will scratch the heck out of them. Maybe use some -20 washer fluid to clean the ice off
Glad y'all made the best of a difficult situation and made it to your appointment safe n on time . Hopefully there was time off to rest in a warmer temperatures and fully recover from being ill . All the best , love the channel.
Very familiar with I68. Have driven it in all types of weather in a four wheeler and in a Yukon pulling a 28’ trailer. Was on it in Jan ‘22 pulling my trailer when 6-8” snow fell. Personally, I was pulling a 42K load on I76 (PA turnpike) the day you were on I68. The wind at the Summerset service plaza was brutal. Kevin, Thanks for sharing your experience driving. Tonya, thanks for capturing the video.
Enjoying the videos. Drove for Crete/Shaffer for 5 years back in 2010-16 on the Shaffer side. Great company an would go back to them in a minute if ever got the itch to change companies. Running all 48 for a for small outfit dragging a skateboard with Pete 389 now. Ya'll be safe out there an keep the shiny side up.
They were so incorrect on the temps from that storm here in Orlando. The two coldest days it was supposed to be 20⁰ at 6am. I took my pooch out for her morning walk at 6am both days wearing only pajama shorts and slip on shoes, no shirt. There was dew on my windows and the grass but none of it was ice. I'm a born and raised Floridian, so cold weather isn't my cup of tea. Honestly i think it was colder back in 86 when the Challenger shuttle exploded, it atleast felt colder.
Omg what amazing place you went though with that steam locomotive . Hats off to you guys all the trucks how bring us our goods . Watching from the U.K.
You have 44,000 on I68 in icy conditions? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. That roller coaster was one of the scariest I've ever driven on. 15-25 mph going up, jaking and doing the recommended speed limit on the way down. Brakes caught on fire once because I lost the jake. .
Oh the joy of trucking. When on icee roads, as you hit the bumps and rough areas of a road, how does the truck and trailer react to those bumps? I've not had to drive on bad winter roads so I don't know. Did you see any cabbage growing? lol
@@mrs.seriouz321 Lol!!! That’s great! I thought that might be the case!! Hope he’s well and still trucking. He’s a very talented editor and always trying to help and inspire people! Thanks for watching our video! Tell him hello!

Also did you use your jack brakes during those runaway ramp ?

Flat bed trailers is the proper term. Truckers also refer to them as Skate Boards.

Yes! We were not sufficiently prepared and we’re using a makeshift approach. 🤦♀️
almost normal driving conditions for winter in NewHampshire and Vermont I drove up there for most of my career.

It is so interesting to travel with the two of you from the comfort of my chair.

that stretch of 68 is never clear in the winter lol
😖❄️❄️❄️
That section of I-68 is a "bear" up/down in good weather! You passed your snow/ice road test! Did you deliver to the fruit market in Grantsville?
I hate driving on this stuff. I do Oregon and Washington so I see alot of it. 35mph works great for me. Awesome job man.
I drive the same no more than 35 thanks for your comment made me feel normal
