Hello respected sir I am 19 years old I fractured my humerus shaft 9 months ago and got intramedullary rod and screw fixation to help it heal and now according to the xrays it has almost healed completely so i would like to know if it is necessary to get the hardware removed if I want to do heavy weightlifting of like 120 kgs after a period of 1 year of complete healing will it cause any complication while doing this type of heavy weightlifting or I will be able to do every movement and even heavy workouts with the rod and screws still inside without any problem
Sir I have a small doubt , femur nail surgery(ORIF) has been done when I was 17 years old but now I’m willing to leave that nail forever ! Does this affect my skeletal growth or whatever near future ?? Please reply sir !

You can Consider Doing plate removal once the fracture has healed well .. although one can keep good quality titanium plates as well .. when you do MRI/ CT then special software’s are needed for them due to metallic implants. Hi doctor, I was in a bike accident 10 months ago and had a humerus fracture (lateral) and went for a surgery for plate (steel plate) and 6 screws, there was pain and discomfort till 5 months and started physiotherapy after that according to doctor’s suggestion, there was sight gap visible even after 6 months of surgery and one day during physiotherapy I lost all mobility and broke the plate during 7th month. Had another surgery to replace the plate (now titanium) and 8 screws in humerus, and bone graft from hip bone. It’s been close to 3 months and in recent X-ray it was showing signs of healing in 3 sides but on 1 side it shows a slight gap and still shows that bone graft is still slightly intact, doctor told me to wait for 1 month. What are ur suggestions doctor and should I be worried about non-union, I am afraid for even doing physio! I am 23 years old male

I fractured my humerus shaft 9 months ago and got intramedullary rod and screw fixation to help it heal and now according to the xrays it has almost healed completely so i would like to know if it is necessary to get the hardware removed if I want to do heavy weightlifting of like 120 kgs after a period of 1 year of complete healing will it cause any complication while doing this type of heavy weightlifting or I will be able to do every movement and even heavy workouts with the rod and screws still inside without any problem
Sir I have a small doubt , femur nail surgery(ORIF) has been done when I was 17 years old but now I’m willing to leave that nail forever ! Does this affect my skeletal growth or whatever near future ?? Please reply sir !

They do although it happens very slowly .. having said that, after fracture healing fibula plate can be removed successfully and most of the patients can return to work with in 1-2 weeks

You can Consider Doing plate removal once the fracture has healed well .. although one can keep good quality titanium plates as well ..
when you do MRI/ CT then special software’s are needed for them due to metallic implants. Otherwise we get a lot of artifacts

I was in a bike accident 10 months ago and had a humerus fracture (lateral) and went for a surgery for plate (steel plate) and 6 screws, there was pain and discomfort till 5 months and started physiotherapy after that according to doctor’s suggestion, there was sight gap visible even after 6 months of surgery and one day during physiotherapy I lost all mobility and broke the plate during 7th month. Had another surgery to replace the plate (now titanium) and 8 screws in humerus, and bone graft from hip bone. It’s been close to 3 months and in recent X-ray it was showing signs of healing in 3 sides but on 1 side it shows a slight gap and still shows that bone graft is still slightly intact, doctor told me to wait for 1 month. What are ur suggestions doctor and should I be worried about non-union, I am afraid for even doing physio! I am 23 years old male
