What you said about constantly having to spin plates is so relatable. I'm the same, I can't concentrate if my flat's a mess and I swear after work all I do is tidy, just feels like you don't have the time of day anymore to do anything besides chores. But you hit the nail on the head, the best part of adulthood is definitely being able to do whatever you want!

I’m 31, living on my own in London (zone 4 commuter town) & work full time. I can really relate to the spinning plates, & the constant routine of life can feel never ending & depressing. Love you & your videos. Enjoy Aus! 💜

I’ve lived in london a decade and I still feel like I’m making things up and putting out fires week by week. Adulthood still feels unmanageable at times, but less so with acceptance and gratitude. Welcome to the world!

You might not see this, Eve, but I'd like to tell you that you inspired me to learn German. Your first ever video of yourself speaking in German that you published 4 years ago was the main reason why I started learning German haha. It's amazing how time flies.

Have you been to Battersea Spanish, it’s a language centre in SW London they do language classes, fitness classes and like socials for Spanish speakers. They are having a Christmas party too soon, might be a good way to top up your Spanish

I totally relate to how you feel, in January i moved to Paris for my studies, now I'm doing an internship there. It's my first time ever living by myself and it's so much to figure out and to do and it's overwhelming but enjoyable at the same time. So it's great to hear that i'm not alone in that

I also find it very interesting how different your Uni experience was, for me Uni has been a very lonely place ever since I started. In German Uni system we don't live on Campus but many of my Uni friends live 1-3 hours away from me. I also have a hard time with finding new friends every semester as we can skip exams and do them in the next year etc. which led to all my friends doing completely different courses and being at completely different stages in our degree even though we started at the same time. I honestly really miss school where I just had my solid group of friends around me 😂

      @adampartridge1903 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Omg I feel you, I wasn't in the German uni system so I didn't have quite that same experience but to go from the solid group of friends at school to knowing no-one at uni was awful and it took so long before I even made a single proper friend. But about a year in I finally made a group of friends through a society and uni was so much better from then on, having friends means so much but it took a really really long time. All I can say is hang in there and there are countless others going through the exact same thing as you, sending hugs :)

I graduated in 2019 and moved to London and you describe how I felt then so well. It really hit me emotionally and I felt quite alone at the time so happy you’ve articulated this so well! I will say, although the pandemic was generally shit timing for a new(ish) grad in London, the normalisation of home working helped massively in not feeling like my life was just work, commuting, washing up and laundry! So if after your course you can find a job with a hybrid working policy, that helps a lot in getting a bit of balance back

Totally agree with the feelings after uni. The next year or two after is very starnge and overwhelming with feeling unsure on what's next, lacking that routine and purpose that comes from it and the social life definitely is missed. But then on the flip side as you say enjoying the freedom after uni as an adult, away from uni pressures so certainly some highs and lows very normal, not unusual but can be hard to navigate 😀😅. All the best and enjoy your travels, will be amazing!!

I think its going to be so good for you to explore Australia! I also high key feel the feeling of being lost after graduating bc I graduated in 2021 from uni and trying to figure out what to do while trying to sustain a social life and keep all the plates spinning is so hard, but its kinda nice to know that Im not the only one experiencing it. I personally have had an additional setback of starting a masters and then having to drop out bc the mental health was not having it and so having to now figure out if I should go back and try that again at a different college or what to do, while also sorting out friendships and a long distance relationship.

Completely relate! I'm on a placement year in London but commuting from my family home that's not too far out, but still a 1.5-2hr commute to my office. The life adjustment is massive - makes you realise just how much free time you have at uni! I'm lucky to be hybrid working so get about half the week in London and half at home but that varies especially with all the train strikes lately! Glad you've got some exciting plans on the horizon :P I'm most definitely looking forward to going back to uni for a year to finish my degree after my placement year, what's been really tough is seeing all my friends at uni doing their final year without me :( lots of love xx

hi eve! i've been a viewer for a few years now. i just wanted to give my 2 cents as a previous young journalist who changed her mind! i originally pursued a bachelor's in journalism in Boston and was introduced to radio journalism, which i adore & loved seeing you getting into that too. i ended up leaving after working for our radio for lots of reasons. then i graduated with a bachelors and sociology and jumped back into radio journalism pursuing an long fellowship and working with NPR! let me just say, i do adore journalism, however... i did leave for so many reasons but the most important being the low pay & intense amount of work for such little pay. i pursued linguistics and i have no regrets. the kind of money i'm making and the work i do i also adore & i'm so grateful. i miss journalism a lot but i still get to be a radio nerd! just wanted to normalize it's always ok to change your mind!! thanks for documenting your experiences!

    Hallo Eve,

I did the NCTJ Diploma alongside my uni course over three years and that was stressful enough, so I can't even imagine doing it in just six months 😅 I know you'll get through it though!
I didn't get gold standard as I got a few Ds (I wanted to focus on my actual uni work rather than bothering to retake some of my NCTJ exams). It was a bit hard coming to terms with that because I'm a perfectionist too, but it's still an achievement regardless.

Hey eve fellow language grad here! I've gone into the railways so I'm not using my languages directly either !!! It definitely hurts when you've spent 4 years working everyday on them. I've signed up to some language exchanges and the french institute in my new city, I'm sure there's lots to get involved with in London. Otherwise I have a few long form video chat show type things that I like watching over a cup of coffee in the morning and that helps even though it's quite passive ! Just seen italki mentioned quite a bit in the comments so will try that too

  • @JanetSuzanne

I lived in Moscow for a while before the war started, and found the app iTalki to learn Russian while I was there. Now I'm back in the UK I've tried to keep up my language skills through iTalki and I really think it's the best option if you don't live in the country of the language you're learning :)

  • @moonaluvgood

I just graduated from studying French at Trinity and I’m pretty much in a similar boat to you Eve. Currently also in a 9-5 job as a marketing assistant for a company while also working on my career as a DJ. I also find it severely hard to relax as well and can’t sit down until everything is tidy either and in their right place (could be a bit of OCD for you as I have it?) but to get to my point - my biggest advice to keep up your languages without moving there would be to try your best to switch your tv programmes into the language, your phone into the language, or atleast try get into watching a TH-camr that speaks that language. But I gotta say it is really hard. For myself I think the only way that I’m going to avoid neglecting French is if I end up moving to Paris in a few years time once I have the financial security. I think it would take a couple of decades to forget a lot of the language because it’s so engrained in us I’m certain it would only take a few months to become fluent again if we move their in our late 20’s even. Not sure if you ever wanna end up living in Germany or Spain though xx I’ll probably move to Paris in 6 years time

Ah Eve. You sound so torn atm. Hope you manage to factor in some down time and reboot after uni. When you think most of your life has been targeted towards getting your oxford degree and now it's done so it's totally reasonable to think "what now?" You will love Australia and do well wherever you go. I work for a psychiatrist on the Mornington peninsula in Victoria. It always sounds like such a lovely place. I love your channel and never get bored. Content doesnt always have to be full on or dynamic, just relatable (which you always are). Sending massive hugs!!! Xxx Emma

U wanna find somewhere (hopefully) cheap, then Lewisham are building new flats by the shopping centre. True, there's no Tube there, but u can get National Rail and DLR anywhere. U wanna find Tube districts that don't break ya though, as well as relative peace, then Sydenham's the place for u.

Hey Eve! Love ur videos :) Just wanted to quickly mention that there's a big misconception around taking the pill back to back (for years I had the week break thinking that was 'normal') but in my first year of uni three years ago was told by my doctor that it's now recommended to take the pill back to back for a period of months, then having a short 3-4 day break! No worries if taking back-to-back doesn't agree with you but just thought I'd let you know :) There's evidence that the only reason for a break at all is so that the cycle seems normal (not a doc though just interested in the subject!) hope you're well xxx sorry for the long para just wanted to say!!

I'm on the combined pill due to having lots of pain and fatigue, and whenever I took it back to back it made me throw up. 🙃 So I can only take it 3 weeks on and 1 week off now.
