Love the filter the up grade is clear and kicked up .I’m running three on three different grams and I can tell you after two weeks mine are absolutely filthy shows that you’re doing incredible job The clear one is easier to take apart due to its construction thank you for recommending these filters I wish I knew you were getting a little for buying them on Amazon I didn’t know you had connections sorry
I got two of these. One from a med chest freezer and one for a small chest freezer. Med freezer is for about a 150 creek chubs which are nasty fish a the small freezer is standard shinners. Filtration and water force is great. Thanks for your videos. Very good help.
I bought two of these and will buy more. I like the ease of cleaning and I believe they are better than just having a power head for water movement, because they filter, move water, and the bubbles are smaller. Thank you Ben!
Fantastic product knowledge of the filter and Great review. I use something identical myself instead of a powerhead they work really well. Got to say Ben I’m loving some of fish in that tank.
Just made this purchase...thank u ben for the review. I watched ur first video on this filter and thought it was pretty cool and now with ur update im definitely down! I have the Marineland 350 hob now and I think this would b a perfect addition. I think I need a little more aeration so that y i was looking n2 this kind of filter.
I just ordered one from Amazon - $100. Bucks CDN - yikes want to experiment with this vs a sponge filter for polishing - Ben your review was great - Amazon reviews very negative - I trust your judgment more 👍
Looks like a good filter! My issue is I would prefer the color of the plastic chambers to be black. The place I want to locate it is in the center of my 125g. It would blend in with the black background in my tank. Maybe I’ll give it a try and paint it black
I was debating this filter or the Sicce shark 800. This filter has more GPH and it is much cheaper. I ordered it. I will either paint it or put one of my Elite cichlids plants I ordered with your discount code! Thank Ben
Almost every fish tank in India works on this kind of filter. So it definitely does Work. Surprised to see it in your videos. 😃 Only problem with these is that while taking out detritus on the outside disintegrates into the tank.
I didn't experience too much of that, probably because the water level was so low due to the water change. when I removed the unit. I think that I'll always make it a point to service the unit, pull it out, when the water level has been reduced. Thanks for the tip!
ben i also run a internal filter in my tank, but the way i do it is better with just 100% poly , i just chuck it away and replace when needed and my tank is stocked alright lol, i also use tank to sump , canister to tank. what you think ? my water is amazing
That's an interesting set up. You're using the canister as the sump pump? If it's working and you're getting great results (and it certainly sounds like you are), carry on for sure!
I’m running one at least 3 .different Tanks. One should be more than enough 40 gallon aquarium unless it’s a Solid Cube of fish Don’t need an air stone because it has an air raider. You can put filter floss floss in one or Other media Good luck Control your food that’s the culprit most the time Really really dirty tanks I also use aquarium co-op test strips a true life saver Hobbes 25 plus Margie B
I have a Tom Aquatic Power Dive 85 and I can't find extra canisters for it anywhere online ! It came with one but I'd love to have three like this one ! Its also only 4.6w and apparently only does 85gph and my tank is a 90 gallon ! I have a huge sponge filter running aswell. I would like to add more filtration in the future as is becomes more stocked but I don't like HOB filters 😕
I would be tempted to close the holes in the top chamber and fill it with floss, thereby creating a fine polishing chamber. It shouldn’t clog that fast as the two sponge compartments would filter out the bigger stuff before they get to floss. Internal filters really should be more popular in the USA.
Next time, a white bowl to clean and show us maybe? Love it did that much. .. did you see the shark adv., I was going to get this one you have, but now I may get both. Lol.
Let me know how they compare. I like the magnetic connectors of the shark. I think the XpertMatic has more media/sponge and I like the long flexable airline which I needed since I'm using it in a part of the tank that is fully covered. The Flex airline just follows and clips to the electrical cord (and I like that it's $15 less ... but Sicce is a top notch company and black is a good color...)
I bought two of these thinking maybe the first one was just bad but they both make the same obnoxious noise and it’s only when it’s attached to the glass. Any ideas on how to fix that. It’s super annoying.
@@BenOchart I only could hear it when I put the suction cups up to the glass. I’m assuming it’s the echo from the motor on glass. I disassembled trying to find the rattle but it’s quite as a mouse when not mounted it drove me crazy I just took it out and left it out.
I just disassembled one to see what could rattle and here’s what I came up with: Not level (can appear level but not be, check from different angles). Impeller not seated correctly in screw-down cover. Partial blockage of airline (remove cap and blow into airline hard, that will open it up) Baskets not fully snapped into place. Hi Marty - Cory at Aquarium Co-op put out a neat vid recently for pimping out the HOB filters using Aqua Clear sponges - I was so impressed I have just purchased my second Aqua Clear filter and tons of sponges various sizes - I have converted my other HOB filters to Aqua Clear sponges as well! I am so impressed with the simplicity of the design!
Kathy Murphy , thanks Kathy. I do the same thing with the Sponge inserts that come with the aqua clear hang on back filter’s.Those sponges really rock and keep my beneficial bacteria at a nice high level and also pick up particles before they get back into my tank. Happy fish keeping! 🐠🤗
Foam has more surface area than fluidity media and foam will hold detritus. I used K1 kaldness fluidity beds for years but have now converted them to foam
There you go, what HMHC said. It would be a fun unit to mess with. Take the center plastic pieces out on fill the middle with pumice or something along that line. I have so much media and sponges in my sump that it's not something I would need to do.
Hello Leo, I was doing 20 - 40% for quite some time but tested some nitrates coming out of the tap. This makes it real hard to reduce nitrates and can actually create a bit of an upward nitrate creep over time when doing WCs less than 50%. So, it was an immediate switch from 20-40% to 80% and the fish did fine. I'm very careful with treating and temp matching.
Ben Ochart yeah finally got it to 50% and I think the pothos is helping cause got it under 40 by the end of the week might end up doing 80% soon though
