I started with a golf ball sized amount and now have a 5 gallon tote full. All I did was added in tap water under high light sitting at 80°F. Didn't take long at all for it to explode in growth.
@@emihayashi7725 I just started growing flame moss. Started off with a 2"X2" wire sheet that had a few strands on it. I already have 2 8oz cups full of it once it adapted to my water.

Hi, I'm a bit late here but what you're doing is called 'photoautotrophic tissue culture', which means it lacks sugar and is instead photosynthesis-dependent. For this to work you need CO2, the moss will not grow at all if the caps on the cups are closed and even with the caps open some way to boost CO2 is recommended.
Hey thanks for your comment! I am not familiar with photoautotrophic tissue cultures so I will definitely be looking into that. While unfamiliar with the term, shortly after planting it did hit me that these cups would likely be limited by co2, and sure enough, they definitely were. They did actuakly grow but nowhere near what I had expected. My plan for the update video is to cover this oversight add a few more mls of solution and poke some holes in the lids. Then give the cups more time to see if there is any noticeable difference. I will give you a shout for this constructive comment, thanks!!! 😊
I still have the 20 gallon with white clouds and my SAE, then the 29 gallon with rummy nose tetras! Going to get some new fish soon, I want more rummies and something to go in the 20
Are you located in, or can you ship to WA? I'm desperate for some snail free Java moss and so far the best bet I have is doing what you are in these videos 😂 but I am far less educated and practiced on the entire process.
Hello, I am following you from the Middle East. I wanted to ask you about the experience of moss. Is the fertilizer you put on a fertilizer for terrestrial plants? Because we only have NPK 20 20 20 available, I am afraid of using it and I do not know how to reduce it to the appropriate amount. After the plants grew up, did I encounter a problem in dropping them into aquariums with fish?
Hello from England, yeah NPK 20 20 20 IS GOOD TO USE YOU JUST GOT TO MAKE SURE TDS READINGS ARE AROUND 500+ DON'T GO ABOVE 600. IF IT CONTAINS COPPER RINSE IT OF WITH FRESH WATER BECAUSE IT WILL KILL SNAILS AND SHRIMPS
Great question! Not as much growth as I would have liked to see, however, the Moss was previously grown underwater so it had to transition to emersed form. This probably took a week or two. Now I’m getting pretty strong growth. Might need to add a little more solution. I’ll do an update video soon!
It’s what I had available here locally back when I was first looking. I am actually in the process of experimenting with a formula that is 9-3-6, which may work better given the higher nitrogen content. Time will tell!
I think over time you can achieve no snail cultures, in that if cut and transplant the newest and upper most growth into cultures and grow them out a few times, you should in theory have eliminated most of the snails.
I think so! Ive been selecting out the ones with snails. I am going to try a mild bleach dip with those infected cups, then grow and see if that fixes the issue. What you described would probably work too!
Interesting. When you do experiments like this you need to add a control batch. You had 5x7 so the 3 you did plus 1x7 with RO water and maybe 1x7 with tap water would give a better chance of more definitive results.

@@emihayashi7725 it took about 2.5 weeks to fill up a 20 gallon tall tank. Everything in my tote came from that

Can't wait to see the results
🙃
Looking forward to see how this works out.
Me too! Fingers crossed 😊
Thank you for sharing.
I myself am looking forward to see results. Best of luck.
Update video should be out in a week or two 😁
Whoa im interested to see how these turn out! I was going to start propagating some java moss tomorrow but was just going to do it old fashioned haha
I guarantees this setup will work, but I am feeling confident :)
Looking forward to an update! I’ve been growing moss out in tubs, it would be great to cut out a step.
Update video is live now :)
Love the videos man keep it up
🙃
Добрый. Интересный эксперимент. Можете написать состав удобрений с этикетки? У нас таких нет, буду подбирать подобные по составу

Did you consider using a lower than suggested nutrient density? I feel like moss doesn't need much in the way of nutrients.
I went with two solutions that are pretty low concentration. One of them was super concentrated mainly because I am curious 😂
@@AquariumPlantLab So what were the results? :) Thanks
Nice
😁
Label both the cups and lids w/ date and concentration!
I didn't label the cups but I did separate each batch and put them in a labeled part of my rack :)
I got a java moss tissue culture. Can I put it with the white stuff it came with in the tank?
I would try to clean off as much of the gel as you can 👍
do you have to adjust the hydroponic liquid mix?
Good luck with this project! I didn't notice that you have any populated fish tanks anymore. Was I right?
