    I have been a RN for 44 years. I would recommend that you sit down on the side of the bed for injections. That will help you relax, while providing support. Pinch the skin up as you are doing. Insert the needle perpendicular to your skin, in one quick motion. After inserting the medication, pull the needle out quickly. Good job!

    Just a few notes from a person who worked in the health field , giving shots , drawing blood and such , you pretty much over populated the shot area with germs multiple times.
    It killed me actually watching it lol
    When you wipe with the first alcohol pad, start in the center where you are putting the needle and wipe in a circular motion out about one inch.
    After you have wiped , do the shot immediately, do not touch it , pet the dog all that stuff. The more the needle is in the air , the more chance you have of getting stuff on it . If you need to wipe again, please use a new alcohol pad.
    Yep this stuff sounds mondane , but I have never had one of my patients get an infection. That area is the last place you want one ! Good luck

    Hannah, I watched Charisma do this (your buddy) and she struggled with the first one too but like you, she got it done and each day it seemed to get a bit easier. One thing you can do is tell yourself that this is helping you create the family you want - stop focusing on the needle and think of it is preparing your body for the baby you and Shane want and each injection is getting you closer to that goal. When all is said and done, and that baby is in your arms, you will completely forget about this part and be so excited that you finally have that little Shane-let or Hannah-let you've wanted for so long. I admire your bravery and determination. You're not a wimp, you're not a sissy, you're just not used to doing this, that's all. I don't think it was a "rocky start" as your title says, it's totally normal to have aversion to needles, especially doing them yourself. Heck, I'm not diabetic but have low blood sugar and even just doing the occasional finger prick to check my sugar level still freaks me out, yet I have 2 diabetic cats and have no issues doing it to them LOL (figure that out! LOL). My mom was diabetic and I gave her shots every single day for years, no issues. There's just something about doing it to yourself that makes it weird and a little scary. You did it and lived to tell about it and tomorrow and the next day it will get easier because now you know what to expect. Fear of the unknown is totally normal for all of us. You got this girl!
    Shane - you're amazing and such a wonderful support for Hannah. I know with your help and encouragement, she will breeze through this and laugh later about how it really wasn't that bad in the long run. Once that baby is here, it will all be so worth it! Hoping and praying that you have a successful egg retrieval in a few days and a viable pregnancy on the first try. Can't wait to see how this turns out! Hugs to you both!

  • @wolfywox
    @wolfywox ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I said this on the short that you posted, but as a type 1 diabetic, this reaction is common and normal. It's much easier to have someone give you a shot verses having to give yourself one. It would frequently take me this long to give myself shots or prick my finger when I was first diagnosed. Had full blown panic attacks some days.
    I'm glad that you have such a good support system with Shane. Anyone who still doubts the love between you would be able to see it clearly here.

  • @allisonrowe5778
    @allisonrowe5778 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Oh Hannah, it's okay! I am type 1 diabetic and have administered over 100,000 shots to myself since I was six years old. I remember when I was first diagnosed I just said to my mom and doctor "It's okay, as long as I don't need any more needles." My poor care team. BUT. It gets easier and easier. Needles are never fun, but if they are life-sustaining or (in your case) life-giving, then you can 100% do it. Also if you want any tips or tricks on how to do the IM vs short needles so you truly don't feel them, I have some! But not everyone wants advice. You got this!

    You have this!! As a retired nurse and a type 2 diabetic I will offer only two suggestions. First as others have stated please sit down while administering your shots, and administer them very quickly! Do not hesitate! (it will lessen any discomfort). Second to help you get over the fear, to relax , and give you more courage repeat a chant while taking some deep breaths such as “Don’t think, Don’t think” or “ One, two, three, One two, three” ( or any chant of your choice). This will help to distract your mind, and decrease focus on giving yourself a shot.
    Praying for a healthy baby in 2024!! Best wishes to you!God bless. ❤

    Hannah you GOT this! I am pregnant with my rainbow baby. I’m a type 2 diabetic and bc I’m pregnant I can’t take my traditional meds. So I have to inject meds 4x a day and test 4-6 times a day. I did the math and I have poked myself with a needle over 600x. It’s crazy, but WORTH it!

    I have an able bodied boyfriend who couldn’t be bothered to support me emotionally and Shane is an absolute angel though he physically can’t comfort her in the way I know he’d like to. It is always intimidating the first time you have to give yourself an injection, and videoing it certainly would not make it any easier. Great job Hannah! Shane, wonderful job supporting her the whole way. The needles look big, but, really, they are painless and very easy to do, once you overcome the stigma of giving yourself a needle. I had to inject testosterone into my leg daily when my then wife and I were trying to conceive. They talked me through the first injection, and I was able to administer them myself until I developed a muscular stutter, which complicated things. You are the epitome of a supportive couple, and I hope you never lose that.

    Hi Hannah, I know giving yourself injections feels overwhelming, but you will soon get the hang of it. It goes against our very basic inclinations to puncture ourselves, so your apprehension is well founded. But as you discovered it doesn't hurt a bit. When you have injections into the fattiy tissues like your stomach, you barely feel a thing and the needle doesn't go deep. I had to have a shot in my stomach every single day for three years sometimes alternating in my inner thighs and the soft part of my upper arms. It was a special treatment for my osteoporosis. My thankfulness for the treatment far outweighed the fear I felt. I guarantee that if you and Shane become parents this will only be a minor memory. You go girl! Hope your back feels better soon too, love to you both!

    When I was a little girl (2 years old), I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and needed upwards of 6 needles a day. I would run from my parents and hide so they put bells on my shoes or socks lol!
