  • In moments like these that call for courage, hope, and resolve, we must connect and fortify ourselves in community with others. In that spirit, we invite you to watch our Civic Saturday from November 7.
At the very first Civic Saturday in November 2016, over 200 people packed into the basement of Elliott Bay Bookstore in Seattle to create a new civic ritual. Four years have passed, hundreds of Civic Saturdays have now taken place, and yet our reason for coming together remains the same. We meet to provide each other with space to pause, to reflect on our hopes and fears, and to decide how we want to live with character as citizens of our democracy. No matter the outcome of the election this November, we each will play a role in supporting a strong democracy in the days and years to come. This will be a special gathering as we mark our four-year anniversary-the moment where we began coming together in this way to rededicate ourselves to the practice of becoming powerful, responsible citizens.

At Citizen University, we believe that a strong democracy relies on strong citizens. Come build those citizen muscles with us at our next Virtual Civic Saturday on TH-cam Live and join for Civic Circles afterward on Zoom. Civic Saturday encourages us to reflect with others around our common civic purpose, challenges us to consider how we are living up to the American creed, and inspires us to live like citizens now and in the future.
In this moment where gathering in large groups is not possible for the safety of our community, Citizen University invites us to maintain our rituals and strengthen our collective civic health with a Virtual Civic Saturday.
Tune in to the video for classic Civic Saturday songs, hear poetry and civic scripture, and a civic sermon from Eric Liu.
This Civic Saturday is hosted by Citizen University.

Thank you so much for this! I was not able to attend but am looking forward to learning more about Citizen U. Eric, thank you for your thoughtful civic sermon. I appreciated what you had to say about omni-culture. Looking at the chat comments, I love the idea of calling us all "Americans," but also find something beautiful and important about acknowledging and appreciating difference. (I'm remembering the "Greendale Human Being" from the show Community and would not want that!) I'd be curious to hear your thoughts about how we can have this shared omni-culture and celebrate/value our distinctiveness.
