Hey just an FYI .. I know you would probably be interested since you have the jacket but They just got the M65 liners in again finally. They’re pretty nice and very light weight and warm .. I picked one up last Friday when they re stocked
As someone who ran an Army/Navy store for MANY years I have worn and owned a lot of M-65's. I have never once use a hood. They are not borderline useless, they are useless. Boonie hat in the rain for the win.
This review has inspired me - I need to thank my dad for his gifts. My dad is retired military and gave me 2 of his real-deal m-65s (complete with liners) - one in camoand the other olive drab. I can't imagine paying that much for a fake one - even if it is a fashion jacket and not a utility jacket. BTW, my liners button in and are really warm. The hood does kind of suck, but any port in a storm (might keep rain off, but are too thin to be warm). Your review was interesting, as always, but I think you would have been better off going to a military surplus store and getting a real one.
I like TAD's stuff I have several pairs of their pants from more than a decade ago now that have held up very well, but thats insane for a jacket. I have surplus austrian field jacket that does everything I need it to do for a fraction of what TAD wants
I have both M65 shells from TAD in Black and in Olive.. they are worth every dollar and the ranger jacket is a great insulator probably a lot more useful and durable than the actual liner . If you’re on the fence and considering buying this just buy it because it is very well made and you will love it.. the only thing with the Black shell is it is a magnet for lint when you first get it after that it’s great 👍🏼
Man, I am so mad at myself by the time I clicked on the link and saw that it was on sale. Extra large was sold out for both colors. I’ve been after this jacket ever since they dropped it and been waiting on a sale. Oh well early bird catches the worm and all. Hope everyone is well.
@@StrayReviewsyea man you got yourself a piece that will last forever.. I’m a big TAD fan the only problem with the M65 is that the liner is hard to come by , but it’s a great jacket I use them a lot with a. Heavy flannel or the ranger jacket underneath . The liner is nice to have but not really necessary like you pointed out because there are other options. If you get your hands on the Talisman you’ll love that jacket . It’s a Barbour style waxed field jacket . If you get one do a review . You do great reviews !
@@DaDevil1983they usually come out around the end of November or sometime in December if they are going to do a restock on the M65 . Once you get your hands on one you will love it .. there’s no comparison to any other brand .alpha industries also makes a nice one and has a nice liner but the triple aught design has a more cleaner, modern slimmer cut.
I bought this jacket about a month ago, and I've been quite impressed with it. It is what I wanted it to be, a casual, toughish utility jacket with a high collar. I was actually reasonably impressed with the hood, because for once it was made of the same material as the jacket, instead of some thin piece of nylon like every other field jacket brand (including my Barbour Sapper.) Question for you, however. Does that Ranger jacket zip into the M-65? I've been waiting for their liner to come back into stock (they've told me it's coming November/December) and I've been curious if becomes integral to the jacket, or just an under layer.
The ranger actually doesn't zip in. It's just a good fit to wear underneath. You're right about the hood. I do like that it's made of the same material as the shell.
I have my original army issued M65 BDU jacket from my one and only tour as an army officer in 1983. I rarely use the hood, preferring a boonie hat for convenience and effectiveness. The worst part of the M65 is the lack of water repellant qualities. The army was too damned cheap to specifiy a GoreTex liner so when it rains it soaks in water and becomes a wet rag. A GoreTex liner would have made it perfect. I try spraying silicone repellent over it but it doesnt seem to help much. But overall, it is one of the best army issued items. It's durable, warm, looks great, and is just cool. I still hace my name, rank, TECOM patch, and US army tape still on it.
I had been a TAD fan for years until they pushed Patrick Ma out. Then their brand became a high priced North Face store with a tactical can of paint, worn by guys with a lot of Starlingear jewelry who all call each other “Brother”. TAD tends to have REALLY weird fits, with super short torsos and long arms in their uppers. I’m six-two, and most of their stuff doesn’t fit me well. Additionally, I’ve had some really pricey coats from them that just straight up failed; my Stealth LT lining ripped after a year and all the seam taping flaked off. When contacting them about it they told me they don’t make the jacket anymore so they wouldn’t warranty it, so I’d have to take it to a specialty shop to have it repaired… for about as much as I paid for the jacket new. Never again.
@StrayReviews Yes sir. Zero foxtrot will also take care of you if absolutely anything happens, all of their products are warrantied for life, the hood is thin but absolutely not useless on theirs and it's a veteran owned and operated business. It's also woobie lined so no need for an expensive liner, the colder it gets the warmer you will be.
I have been extremely disappointed with every purchase through TAD. I am convinced it’s an empty marketing scheme. When I was young an dumb I dropped about 3K on clothing from here and it was complete garbage. It’s niche trash. Better off looking elsewhere.
I did not get a heavy duty jacket so hope it works out! Not a criticism at all, this was quite a few years ago. Hopefully things have improved for them.
Great vid. I like the look of this so I'll probably grab one even if it's not on sale. Thanks
Thanks so much! They've got some pretty good ones on sale right now. It's a bummer that they didn't include this one.

I don’t know anyone who’s ever worn the hood. They should skip it and lower the price.

Yep, a hefty price tag indeed. Especially when you consider all the other M-65 options out there.

Iron heart’s M65 jacket has got handwarmers integrated with bottom big pockets. I have a sateen version and it’s easily my most worn jacket
Iron Heart makes an M-65? I have to see this bad boy!

You can always buy an original M65 for cheap, I got mine with liner off ebay for 20$ Wear it nearly every day in the winter
Very nice! I was looking at them on eBay too. Timeless!

Take a look of the polish product M65 Covert! It is amazing!

Awe, bummer.
I got it in Iron Heart and it has hand pockets..
Very nice!
The Barbour sapper is the best M65 I've ever owned.
Looks stellar. I love that quilted interior.
Crazy prices for a cotton jacket...
It’s for sure on the pricey side.

The zero foxtrot M65 is better, costs $200 less and is 20% off year round for veterans, service personnel and first responders.
