That T3 sway bar really made a huge difference. Thanks for the tip on the steering bushings.

Cost vs benefit, those steering rack bushings are awesome!

Great tips, Chris! Thanks for sharing. I did nearly the same as you on our 1989 GL West. Before upgrades, the steering had a huge amount of squishy slack and I got blown all over the road by winds and semi turbulence. It was especially frightening in higher winds and wet weather. Everyone I talked to suggested upsizing my wheels and going with wider tires - I was still running the stock wheels and Hankook Vantra 185/14s. After more research and emails with Christopher at T3 Technique, I went for the suspension changes: Koni red shocks, T3 anti-sway bar with HD end links, Schwenk springs, all new Powerflex bushings, T3 steering rack stabilization kit. What have I missed?! Holy shit, what a difference!! It doesn't track quite as tight as a new car, but my knuckles are no longer white in high winds or while passing semis. Couldn't believe how tight the steering became and how secure I felt on the road. Best upgrades I've made, period. And I've replaced a lot of stuff on that rig. I can't say enough good things about Christopher at T3. He was very generous with his time and patient with educating a complete beginner on the fine details of shocks and suspension. And as for squeaky bushings, I did run into that with the Powerflex bushings when using regular grease, but T3 sells a lubricant especially suited to them and once that was in place, I've never heard another squeak.

He helped me as well with the spacers for my Mercedes wheels and the front swaybar. Super knowledgeable dude!

Hey and thanks for the great videos. I am looking at getting the windows tinted in my weekender. Did you take the rear cabinet out to have it done or were you or whoever did it able to work around it. Thanks.

I did it myself and didn’t take it out. There is a wrinkle there as I had to reach in but I’m ok with it. :-)

im curious about what your pre upgrade center of hub to fender lip measurements were and post upgrade. as in did you decrease overall ride height. I have the 85 springs as well and am wondering if you lost height as it looks like you would have on paper. cheers

If i remember correctly, they were damn close to stock height.

I am leaning towards the Schwenk springs for my 83.5 Westy full camper due to a good amount of comments on the Gowesty springs sagging after 3+ years and I'm planning to run 215/75/15 tires, I'm curious if that size would fit with your exact mods.

Contact Schwenk directly, I'm sure that Chris can direct you accordingly. He's a good dude who also makes excellent products! :-)
