I would love to try playing one. The pick both seems harder to use than a guitar pick, but also something about the way it lays in the hand could make it much easier to use. The increased weight in the hand from a pick that size would cut down on fatigue, and make it easier to play for long periods of time without fatigue. I will have to look for the Bachi pick and learn some more about it. The long stringed instrument that is being played in the background looks very difficult to play. It seems that the pitch of the notes is changed by putting pressure on the string.
If you are going to do another WagakkiBand reaction to an original song, I would suggest choosing either Ignite or Synchronicity. Ignite is a great rocker song, while Synchronicity actually has a jazzy-blues feel to it. Go with the live versions before the studio ones. WGB is one of those groups that just sounds better live.
I think Amy and Yuko fit together the same way that Frida and Agnetha from ABBA do. They are close enough together to harmonize really well, but aren't fighting for the same space, musically. (Agnetha was a soprano, Frida a mezzo-soprano.)
Good choice👍 The songs of the Wagakki band get so much better when they play them live, than studio recordings. I recommend "Hotarubi" from Premium Symphonic Night Vol. 2 "Episode 0" from Daishinenkai 2017 "Izana" from Manatsu Daishinnenkai 2020
This is a band that you would want to see, rather than hear. There are so many instruments and elements to their music just listening wouldn't give you a good idea of everything that is going on.
>>I really enjoyed your reaction with pure appreciation. Thank you >>Yes!! you are quite correct at your saying of “her voice… so powerful!”. This song with Emmy Lee and Yuko is dedicated for the unity and commotion among the fighters against this global difficulty and separation. So singing “ bloom! cheery blossom (Sakura) and fly away to reach to you beyond the ocean!!” This is exactly for embracing those fighters and ordinary people, us. How come can’t be powerful in singing! And feel it in listening!! >>Ah, so many recommendable Wagakki band songs. 1. I dare to pick, as some others do, ‘Homura (Flames) + Akatsuki no Ito ( String of Crimson moon) . We can enjoy abundance of superb guitar solo and cool shamisen in the first, and the Yuko’s rich ancient poem narrative and folklore style singing backed by full instruments. Two consecutive songs. (Live; live is always much better than studio version. This is the beauty of this band!) 2. Other one is “Chie no Kajitsu (Fruit of wisdom) + Somosan sepa (Calling of zen teacher to his pupil, hey solve this problem!, something like this..) Full western former instrumentation, followed by full Japanese instrumentation with very thrilling shamisen, marvelous and rocking out (always, LoLo) shakuhachi and very unique tempo out of taiko. Needless to say a live.
Thank you so much for the suggestions Taka. I am glad you enjoyed the reaction, we have done a couple Wagakki Band reactions so far, and plan on recording some more tomorrow. I will make a copy of your suggestions, excited to hear more from them.
Me too, getting to hear traditional Japanese music, with a layer of stuff we are familiar with makes that music accessible to a larger audience to be able to appreciate it.

Thank you for pointing out that those songs are the usual starter songs, I will try to avoid them. Then again it a while ago I seen them, and don't remember anything. So it wouldn't be the worst thing. I probably couldn't pinpoint if "this" is the song I heard or not. Thanks as well for the links, that helps A LOT!! You are AMAZING!!
@@CaptainFaceBeard You're welcome. I like to help and be informative, as other fans were when i was getting into the band. Half of their live shows are not allowed on youtube. I'd like to pick those for certain songs, also some unique instrumentals are missing that way. I guess their previous label is to blame. I think the 3 videos uploaded on Yuko Suzuhana's channel are safe to use. It was before their major debut. Also Hanafugetsu is there too. That's the band Yuko made, before Wagakki band.
@@CaptainFaceBeard The plectrum is called a Bachi. They can cost thousands of dollars. I believe the shape is meant to evoke the fans originally used before the Tsuguru style came about requiring more robust construction.
@@powbobs I was actually looking at the prices of them because I would love to have one and give it a try. They are expensive, but I expected them to be. It's a traditional instrument, probably not mass produced due to a lower interest that something like a Ukulele, or even a Violin. I have been playing stringed instruments my whole life, but never anything fretless, so that would probably be the biggest issue, playing in Tune. That is the problem with being a musician, it's easy to justify the purchase of most instruments. I am glad I am no where near the big Canadian chain of Music Stores, Long & McQuade, I would rent stupid instruments all the time. Bagpipes at 5AM, SURE!! Try to learn Death Metal basslines on a Tuba, WHY NOT?
"I believe the shape is meant to evoke the fans originally used before the Tsuguru style came about requiring more robust construction." So what I had learned about that is, the Tsuguru style are the ones with the thicker neck. They are meant for things like the Puppet Shows, where a more robust sound is needed for the style of music. The ones with the thinner necks, are built for virtuoso performances, meant to be used for things like Kabuki.
Honestly, this is not a good look for either artist. Amy was great once, but she is no longer at the level to keep up with Yuko-sama or Wagakki band. If you are familiar with them, you know they usually go much harder. They had to hold back here so as not to overwhelm Amy.
The Wagakki Band song I am going to check out this coming Thursday is going to be one with just them. I could use suggestions though if you have any for me Hiawatha? YOU ARE AWESOME!!
@@CaptainFaceBeard Here is my pick for best MV to start with, because it gives you a clear look at each of the bandmembers and their instruments: th-cam.com/video/Q2meWkWqc-I/w-d-xo.html In true Japanese fashion, this song was originally written for a Vocaloid, which is a computer-generated virtual singer. They go as hard as the song needs to be. The song was written for a specific feel and tempo. Nothing is being done to help Amy keep up, as you say. I am not an Amy Lee or Evanescence fan, but your characterization of her is not correct.
The instrument with the pick is called a Tsugaru Shamisen「津軽三味線」and the pick is called a bachi「撥」.

Synchronicity, it is then, because one of my favorite Police songs has the same name.
Yes, live!! I love that comical singing interaction between Yuko and Machiya in Synchronicity on imaginary body switching situation in the couple!
