For Mongolian nomads or yurt dwellers in Ulaanbaatar where I live, 200 dollars is a month’s wages. That’s a lot. Biolite should make something for yurts at 25% of the price. One that will work with brown coal preferably.
BioLite makes great products but their customer service is second to none. They really stand behind their products. I have the Basecamp, camp stove, and camp stove 2 plus all of the accessories for the stoves. Awesome products awesome company. This is another cool product!
Solid unit and review. Loads of room to cook on and enjoy a fire with the side view. Awesome feature with the sliding grill. Charging and grilling Slammin
Great review. My wife and I were at REI this past weekend and I was showing this to her....she said "we need that"...so that's all I needed to hear. after seeing your review this will be purchased in the near future. I have the whole cook stove set up from BioLite, so know it's a good product. Thanks for your video
Great review Ben. Never seen one like this before. Very cool how it burns good size pieces of wood without having to build up to it, instant almost. Very unique. Thanks for sharing. Tony
That dog knows what time it is! Looking for his burgers and chicken! Lol! It would be cool seeing you use the new lid and cast iron griddle with this, and the carry bag.
Hot review Im disappointed its not thermoelectric but still a very practical (most practical) portable wood cooking bbq out there. The solostove bonfire still wins as a firepit but this has its own unique features which make it worth looking at.
I'd be interested to know your thoughts on why the solostove bonfire wins as a fire pit My concern with the solostove is the lack of radiant heat? I've heard the heat travels straight up meaning you can't sit around it and keep cosy so much. Thoughts?
Nice video Ben thanks I just picked up the bio light package with the bbq table and water pot it was on a blow out sale at REi. This looks great for a back yard fire pit 200 bucks can’t go wrong.
How long will it last before the bottom falls out of it, I wonder. Every metal fire pit I’ve had eventually burned right through the bottom after a couple summers..
To me, this is a bit of a missed opportunity. Why does it not recharge itself like the regular stoves they make? To me, that's a fatal flaw, the fact that you have to rely on a battery you have to take home to recharge. The ability to create power from fire would make it perfect for use at a summer house/cabin, at a basecamp etc.
Yeah if you are carrying something this big and bulky chances are you can afford to carry a small solar panel too. However I still think it's lame af that it doesn't have a peltier unit in it. They are dirt cheap.
I hear ya on that one. I’ve literally never had to charge my biolite stove and that just makes it even more awesome of a product. I was hoping this thing could serve as a sort of car camping generator since a fire pit would burn a lot longer typically. But I’m sure there are some hurtles to overcome. I don’t know how well they can scale that thermal power production, and I’m sure this draws a lot more power than a little camp stoves. And even if they could scale it up, I’m sure it would be expensive.
You did a better review than the manufacturer! I am not sure its a fatal flaw. Thermal couplers are fickle and are hard to control with such a large amount of heat. You are right. This is a fantastic idea for glamping or RV and boondocking! To be honest I love smoking foods with lots of smoke. But the epiphany is this works for foods that normally would need a propane bottle. There is the savings.. thanks....
Love the Biolite products and company! I wish they added the TEG which made them famous so the pit could be self-sustaining. Great review Ben as usual!
Get the ATG's smokeless solar tube stove for under $70.00. It goes by many names. I cook in bright sun /or I placed ATG's indoor near window to get free heat in the winter. This is basically a battery and a fan blowing into confined coal or wood for $200.00!
I have the base camp stove with a pizza dome great unit. Good video. Have you tried to charge the pit battery with your small biolite stove. If no I would give it a go. And tell us if it works. I think it probably will
Pretty cool idea, as all of the biolite gear is. I think the price is reasonable considering how much the little twig stoves are. It is too bad that it doesn't charge itself or have a lid, but aside from that its pretty damn cool.
It's good but until they introduce one that charges from the fire I'm holding back. I'm after a good firepit as well but the fact it won't charge from the fire puts me off completely, I'd pay more as well for it if it was on it!
advertised as a smokeless in less than a minute but i see actually takes quite a while until smokeless or relatively that is. also does the power pack have a battery indicator on it?
If you got the BioLite Stove that charges itself while burning fuel, could you use a stove to charge the fire pit? Yes I realize it is suggesting buying two of their items, how well could you charge the pit with the stove?
It's not a terrible price for all the features and what it is but what would be awesome would be a portable grill with a lid and with the thermocouple to charge itself and devices if biolite ever came out with something like that I'd have to have one
I'be been looking at getting a firepit and I've been keeping my eye on the Solo Stove fire pit but the price tag has been keeping me from pulling the trigger. But this pit at the price it's at I might look into this further
It’s a really cool fire pit. I wish it had the thermal charger on it. Not only to recharge itself but also to charge my devices. It’s kind of the whole point of using Biolite products isn’t it? I have the original stove setup with the cooktop and coffee pot and really enjoy using them. I charge my phone, GPS, battery banks and flashlights with it. I’m sure I’ll get the fire pit as well I just would like it to charge as well.
one question, does the cook grate have to slide over the fan unit? if so it would ruin the fan unit from the meat drippings if it can slide to the other end it would be much much better
The little one doesn’t use a thermo coupler, it’s a thermoelectric generator that converts the thermal energy to electric energy. Anyway, happy to see you guys enjoying both products, as I worked on both (aero/thermal product engineer) during my time at BioLite.
Maybe after it has been out longer and the price comes down. Needs the thermocouple to justify it's current price. Solar cover would be good but you didn't say how much that was.
My solar cover came as part of the Kickstarter package for the $200. We just got all the parts needed to get ours together today and are looking forward to cooking with it this weekend. I wanted something we could use to cook on when the power was out, that would recharge other devices (I also bought two of their solar panels and one of the camp lights as this was part of a Christmas gift for my husband), and would be a cool campfire on our new deck (we're going to use a fire resistant pad under it). Thanks for your review.
Ben, I love you man, but you gotta take a basic cooking class. Thank you for the review. I bought it and I love looking at it. I must confess though, I bought so that I can replicate it making myself on out of iron, same exact piece.
I wouldn't use that in a survival situation jeez! Lol! It is pretty cool. Not a bad price either. I'm kinda shocked that it doesn't have the thermal coupler thingy though. Where's the taste test? I hope that food was slammin!
@@livingsurvival yes, the cover came with the firepit is useless has no handle. they kind of wanting you to buy the solar charging pack. the thing is with the solar rating on the carrying bag charging up will be very slow. i found a bag that i have that will fit the fire pit. I'm all set.
Nice thorough review. I love mine, and don't mind that it doesn't include the thermocoupler. That would put the price too high for most, and this is more for car camping anyways where you shouldn't need to rely on it for electricity as much.
honestly 200 $$$ is Nothing
Anton villum Kousgaard for what it is yea I agree
You're right
Then send me $260.00 so I can get 1
For Mongolian nomads or yurt dwellers in Ulaanbaatar where I live, 200 dollars is a month’s wages. That’s a lot. Biolite should make something for yurts at 25% of the price. One that will work with brown coal preferably.
Groot.. why would I steal the from your mom? She obviously needs them more! LMAO!!!
I took a shot every time he said "rip roarin" and idk how I'm still alive lmaooo
BioLite makes great products but their customer service is second to none. They really stand behind their products. I have the Basecamp, camp stove, and camp stove 2 plus all of the accessories for the stoves. Awesome products awesome company. This is another cool product!

Very futuristic looking. Material looks thin, i'd like to see a long term use update. Like the first impressions!!
Yes, rust of the mesh is a problem already.
They finally updated the coat so it’s higher temperature rated now, and will last longer
Great review. Right, even with charcoal once they are started it fires them right up.
great review Ben!! was on the kickstarter for this unit... BioLite is leading the innovation
Really been excited for this to come out. Great video. every time Ben says "rip roaring" , do a shot
Jolly Rodger99 throw em back
That dog knows what time it is! Looking for his burgers and chicken! Lol! It would be cool seeing you use the new lid and cast iron griddle with this, and the carry bag.
Wow, what an excellent video!!! Best review out there on this product!!!
Watching this video like “say ‘rip roaring’ one more time”.
🔥🔥🔥R I P R O A R I N G🔥🔥🔥
I have a campestove 2 - Just found this and your video is awesome thank you for all the information
This is a great review! BUT... anyone know how many times he said RIP ROARING?! 🤣🤣🤣 still a great review and appreciated.
Hot review Im disappointed its not thermoelectric but still a very practical (most practical) portable wood cooking bbq out there. The solostove bonfire still wins as a firepit but this has its own unique features which make it worth looking at.
Canadian Prepper I don’t really know how to justify the $300 of the bonfire since it doesn’t do much. Mine is still in the box.
I'd be interested to know your thoughts on why the solostove bonfire wins as a fire pit My concern with the solostove is the lack of radiant heat? I've heard the heat travels straight up meaning you can't sit around it and keep cosy so much. Thoughts?
That thing is really cool!! Very comprehensive review. Thanks.
giving one to the in-laws for Christmas this year. they should get some good use out of it. i will show them this video. good job.
Nice review. I own a Campstove 2, Cookstove and Basecamp. This looks nice. Thumbs up on the review.
Nice video Ben thanks I just picked up the bio light package with the bbq table and water pot it was on a blow out sale at REi. This looks great for a back yard fire pit 200 bucks can’t go wrong.
I'd like to see a 1 year review I don't know about that steel
Excellent review, I’m buying one now for use at home and on the boat. Many thanks!
Awesome. Enjoy.
Sir, I ordered one of these, and am looking forward to trying it out. Thanks for the thorough review.

😂 pretty much.
how many fires and how long have you had it? I've seen another review that this product rusts a lot
Looks like hit Ben. Thanks for the review. Watching your stuff for a couple of years now. Keep em coming.
Martin I truly appreciate it!
I LOVE THIS! My only complaint and criticism is that you cannot cover it to smoke your meat, otherwise, i love it
Well 2022 December it's now 299.95 ... inflation is real .. but they also gave it a top grill cover as well. How is your biolite working now ?
How long will it last before the bottom falls out of it, I wonder. Every metal fire pit I’ve had eventually burned right through the bottom after a couple summers..

FuttFel solar is easy peasy
Yeah if you are carrying something this big and bulky chances are you can afford to carry a small solar panel too. However I still think it's lame af that it doesn't have a peltier unit in it. They are dirt cheap.
I hear ya on that one. I’ve literally never had to charge my biolite stove and that just makes it even more awesome of a product. And even if they could scale it up, I’m sure it would be expensive.
They are saving that for version 2 like companies always do.
Solar isn't really an option for places where there isn't much direct sunlight. They really should have made it charge itself.
Woe, I think this is really useful, and handy. Like you said, great for a beach, deck, or other setting. Great find.
Exactly, so simply and fast.
You did a better review than the manufacturer! I am not sure its a fatal flaw. Thermal couplers are fickle and are hard to control with such a large amount of heat. You are right. Thanks Mark.

Waiting for the self charge as well.
Get the ATG's smokeless solar tube stove for under $70.00. It goes by many names.
I cook in bright sun /or I placed ATG's indoor near window to get free heat in the winter.
This is basically a battery and a fan blowing into confined coal or wood for $200.00!
Awesome for car camping and such.
How are you protecting from rust?
I have the base camp stove with a pizza dome great unit. Good video. Have you tried to charge the pit battery with your small biolite stove. If no I would give it a go. And tell us if it works. I think it probably will
Pretty cool idea, as all of the biolite gear is. I think the price is reasonable considering how much the little twig stoves are. It is too bad that it doesn't charge itself or have a lid, but aside from that its pretty damn cool.
True.
how about without the fan on, can you get a good fire with some wood in there. Enough to give off some heat for the people sitting around the fire?
How’s does the body hold up? What’s thickness of the steel? Any warping? My concern would be the mesh’s durability rusting away. Seems very thin
I wondered about those issues as well.
biolite told me you can charge the firepit battery with the biolite stove or biolite basecamp stove too
The campfire+ has an avaliable cover for cooking on it.
Great product Ben Thanks for the video
Such a good video, thank you so much
It's good but until they introduce one that charges from the fire I'm holding back.
I'm after a good firepit as well but the fact it won't charge from the fire puts me off completely, I'd pay more as well for it if it was on it!
Nice review as always Ben. Just a shame that this FirePit is not available in Europe yet.
It is available, saw it last weekend in a Dutch outdoor shop.

Good Stuff!!! Great for camping n tailgates, Awesome!!! Thanxs for sharing!!! :-)
Definitely.
how much is battery capacity ?
Great video Ben. THUMBS UP!
do you still use it today? and does it charge the battery?!?!
Interesting. I could use two fires and charge the larger one with my smaller one!
I am loving your channel!😀
Thanks.
How is the fire pit holding up after a year?
Cool to see where the company is going but it's not for me, I'm still happy with my solo stove stuff
Is it safe to use on a balcony, wooden boat docks ? Does the heat reach the ground?
How is it after a year?
I like this product a lot and there’s a great chance I would buy one. It would be outstanding if included a cover... great video amigo 👍🏼👋🏼👋🏼
Carlos Sepulveda it comes with a standard cover.
Nice review. Thanks
It seems to address the main eeriness of the smaller model: the need to feed small pieces of wood every few seconds.
WOW! Holy crap that is fantastic.
Why wouldn't they make it generate electricity. It's kinda a waist if it doesn't create any power.
I know, I have not contacted the company to ask why but I also have not bought one for just that reason.
agreed. was a bit disappointed
They said if they were to add the thermoelectric that the campstove had the unit would cost upwards of 600 dollars
It's not a terrible price for all the features and what it is but what would be awesome would be a portable grill with a lid and with the thermocouple to charge itself and devices if biolite ever came out with something like that I'd have to have one
love it!! love biolite
I think the high pitch sound the fan makes would bug me. I can hear it clearly in your video. Thanks for the review. This is what I was looking for.
She’s got a hum to her for sure 😆
Great review!
Have you encounter any rust on your unit?
No, but it’s been covered.
I'be been looking at getting a firepit and I've been keeping my eye on the Solo Stove fire pit but the price tag has been keeping me from pulling the trigger. But this pit at the price it's at I might look into this further
I have that one coming up also. Not sure it will be as cool or fast as this one...and no cooking.
Thanks for the video - how would you go about lighting charcoal on this?
Using a chimney starter. I’ve used lighter fluid although it’s not advised.
They make a solar cover for it that can charge it.
one question, does the cook grate have to slide over the fan unit? if so it would ruin the fan unit from the meat drippings if it can slide to the other end it would be much much better
No. The fan unit is on the side.
Pretty damn cool!
what pack do you have on? Padded straps would be nice!
SOLD 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌

R I P R O A R I N
Awesome!
I think so.
It is a shame not refilling some huge batteries with that amount of energy
Hopefully they might make a fire pit 2 which will charge a huge battery fast :)
Ben, I love you man, but you gotta take a basic cooking class. Thank you for the review. I bought it and I love looking at it. I must confess though, I bought so that I can replicate it making myself on out of iron, same exact piece.
I was kind of hoping you were going to say the burgers or the chicken was slammin!
Bo Knows slammin
They should make a wood stove for indoor use that be a BIG SELLER. In close top and add pipe and door
How was the food?
Slammin
Bio lite fire pit love it go Green
I wouldn't use that in a survival situation jeez! Lol! It is pretty cool. Not a bad price either. I'm kinda shocked that it doesn't have the thermal coupler thingy though. Where's the taste test? I hope that food was slammin!
RIPPIN AND ROARING IS THE ONLY WAY !
how do I get one with thermal coupler
I think it's best if things were grilled over charcoal vs flames like that which will leave smokes on your meat.
So freakin cool
Why did they not add a thermo-coupler to this design? That completely ruins the functionality for me especially when I need to charge while camping
Exelent stuff. I wish we could get it here but by now it's really hard.
Worth it
Disappointed to hear that high-pitched fan noise. That feels like a deal breaker to me. Is it louder on video than in person?
It’s loud.
Irak is in there? Wow!!
Pretty sweet
You can buy a cover from biolite
They might even come with them.
@@livingsurvival yes, the cover came with the firepit is useless has no handle. they kind of wanting you to buy the solar charging pack. the thing is with the solar rating on the carrying bag charging up will be very slow. i found a bag that i have that will fit the fire pit. I'm all set.

pretty cool....was expecting it to cost a lot more than $200....
half descent barbecue cost that much....and then yer stuck with propane....
