    Can you use this during the Australian summer when there are fire bans throughout much of the country?

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Depending on the state you are in, there may be some conditions in which you are able to have a fire during fireban season - we recommend checking with your local country fire authority for more info.

    great review! thanks, just what I was hoping to find out about this unit. Looks like a well thought out design for simpler camping experiences. One question though: did it put out very much heat when ambient temp is low?

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We didnt leave it running for long on the filming day @notsofast60, but it did a great job keeping us warm when I had the opportunity to test it out over the weekend prior, but it did take some playing around to get it just right.
      I think getting to know the fan speeds well and how they impact the fire itself will work to your advantage. Also having good quality wood thats the right size for the pit definitely helps.

    Biolite needs to make replacement fans sold separately. I have this pit and the fan battery pack got ruined by the fire. The company is a great company with great ideas so maybe they will soon in due time.

    It would have been nice to see the use of a TEG - thermoelectric generator in order to power the fan. Great review :)

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Biolite Camp Stove uses a TEG @Andy McBlane, its pretty awesome.
      I'm not sure why they don't have one in the FirePit+

    I was just devastated to learn this thing didn't charge the pack by thermoelectrics.
    Went from top of my wishlist to "meh".
    BioLite claims it would cost too much to be suitable but considering a single TEG can deliver 20w and they only do 3w on the CampStove I'd say the price wouldn't have to change much and that the CampStove should have been better.

    • @SnowysOutdoors

      I agree it would be awesome if they built thermoelectrics into the FirePit, fingers crossed for an future upgrade

    Cool concept… I recommend googling the known issues of this product, my power pack stopped charging after 1.5 years (known issue), battery can’t actually be replaced and snowys can’t help as not in warranty. Also get used to high temp black spray paint if keeping outside (even undercover) it all rusts! My family got 1 winters use from our $400 firepit and it did work well! But now it works as well as a $29 firepit from bunnings. Unfortunately I will no longer support biolite or snowys.

      As Ive mentioned in the video @Shiba Shinto, thats due to the oiled 'Fat Wood' that was used as kindling for the video.

    Does the fire pit charge the battery pack

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, the battery pack is charged separately and powers the fire for up to 24 hours. It is there to assist the fire to burn more efficiently. ~ Ben

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Biolite's smaller camp stove uses thermo energy to power the fan and stores extra energy, I guess they haven't quite managed to make that work well for their fire pit. You never know what we'll see in the future though. ~ Ben

    Idk if it's just me but I hate it when bbqs are referred to as a firepit. This isn't a firepit. Not to mention a battery pack with a plastic seal on one side...you'd be an idiot to need a battery fan, not to mention the issue with heat. This review could have used about 10000 less words.. Way way over sold

    • @chilldude7803
      @chilldude7803 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yeh it’s just you. Of course it’s a fire pit that can be used as a grill/bbq. The fan works a treat, the seal doesn’t get hot when in use. When your fire is cranking you just remove the battery/fan pack. The review was spot on but I’m thinking your comment could have used 62 less words.

      Idk if it's just me but I hate it when Fire Pits are referred to as a barbecue. Mr Stephen Thorne in my side (Full name) you have let not only me down, but sadly you have let yourself down in not realising the difference between a fire pit (2 x words Stephen) & a barbecue (1 x word Stephen). Here`s a tip for you yah wally, Can i fill my gas quad burner barbecue with sticks and light it? Hmmm maybe but not a great result, Can i fill the Biolite Fire Pit with sticks and light it? ............YES! .....Stay with me Stephen this is the good bit, once the fire is burning nicely in the Fire Pit and I choose to have a barbecued style dinner, I can put a grill on the top of the fire pit and cook away and no need for a name change! it does not need a name change for this to happen. Thanks Lauren good run through, well done :)

      Plenty of fire pits come with provisions for ,or have the option to adding cooking accessories @Scooby Steve! The battery fan may seem a bit gimmicky, but it's a cool function that allows more people to have access to a fire pit where they may not otherwise. Think inner city living, small yards with close neighbours, appartments with small balconies, etc
      More people having the chance to enjoy and open fire is a win for me.
