Ann Wilson is one of the best rock vocalists in history. For 50 years, she's been kicking ass and taking names.

As fantastic as the studio recording is, Anne having fun with her voice, changing its shape with each return to the "Magic Man" motif, just raises this performance to another level for me. The musicianship of the band in this performance is fantastic, of course, but that vocal performance showcases that she's not just a powerful voice with wide range, that she's also a singer of nuance and playful subtlety, as well.

Totally agree she sings with pure emotion of young love. The way she uses her voice to as riffing off the guitar with Roger. Awesome ❤❤❤

Ann has one of those voices that doesn't change. She might be a bit raspier now but it's timeless. Also live vs studio.... pretty damn impressive

@@JCrook1028 She's lost a bit on her upper range the past few years but the rest of it, especially her low range, is stronger and more soulful than ever. I would agree it's not what it was 10 years ago but I wouldn't say it "isn't even close".

Heart is one of those few bands that I have always found to be better live. That’s so rare and really demonstrates how incredible these musicians are. And for Ann to confidently try these different things with her voice… it’s what music was meant to be.

They sound better live than on the album.
You really ought to react to the one that popped up at the end. "Crazy on You". That one has a little behind the scenes before they go on stage.

Yes, that particular video of Nancy's acoustic intro to "Crazy on You" is worthy of rock goddess status. It's also a great tribute to poor Roger Fisher. That tour was great. We didn't know that it was the end of the line for that version of Heart.

@@mickeykmiller the arena is a small 2,000 seat one. I had center balcony seats with an unobstructed view of the stage.
Heart did Zeppelin's "Rock n Roll" as the last song of the encore as a tribute to the King!
Took a while to get my hearing back, Rick Derringer opened for them. At that point he was the loudest act I had seen.

Glad you liked it. Early Heart was better live than on the album, and they were one of the few bands that could almost duplicate the studio recording live because they recorded a lot of tracks live front to back. The studio track for Barracuda was recorded completely live, and the only thing added was a few guitar overdubs during the bridge. They were so good and organic the early days that their later overproduced pop material alienated early fans, that's what I meant with the comment about "All I Wanna Do...". I like all periods of this band except for that one song, but a lot of early fans completely tuned their later music out.

I saw Heart twice back in the 70's and love Ann and Nancy but you cannot leave out the core four of Roger Fisher and Howard Leese on guitars, Steve Fossen on bass and Michael Derosier on drums. Damn they were good live. Not enough people react to 'Cook With Fire". A hidden gem. th-cam.com/video/ov1glkGWXgM/w-d-xo.html

THIS is why live is always better! It show the artists real talent. This is why the new musicians are not touring and some old musicians are still on the road doing live. No two shows are alike and people follow them to the venues. A band called the Grateful Dead had a massive, permanent fan following called Dead Heads.

Am a sub to many reactors, esp those interested/growing in rock. I grew up in it.
You, are by far becoming my fav. 👍🏽🤩
I enjoy your content, your enthusiasm, your, interest, your thirst for knowledge and honesty.
People harp about pausing, researching right down to pronunciation, everything, find myself screaming to my phone, "They've never heard the damn song so don't know when the solo hits moron!!" Ignorance and expectations, geez!!
My point, your style fits me and I enjoy your channel very much. ❤👍🏽
Now Re: "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You" and this song (others too) is, Ann wrote it. With conviction and heart and soul.
Mutt Lange wrote the other and she didn't believe in it, the story, the lyrics.
    Corporate America at it's best.
There are a few interesting interviews/articles on these sisters and their music, Dan Rather's The Big Interview Heart is a good one, not to react to, your thirst for knowledge. 😉
A song choice for these 2 can be found in that very DR interview, Nancy's fav of big sis Ann's. 😝
Whatever is next, I'm down for.
    😁👍🏽❤❤

You should check out some of their stuff from their Seattle concert from the early 2000's. Obviously better video and sound quality plus they play many of their later hits . But the only original members in it are the two women. They are both in their 50's in it but you would neve know it other than a few wrinkles.

@SalvoG, alright you like LZ and you like Heart. I know you've done Heart's cover of Stairway to Heaven. But I subscribed for the single purpose of recommending to you Heart's cover LZ's Rock and Roll. It was a live recording released on one of Heart's Greatest Hits album collections. I know I'll take flack from hardcore LZ fans (of which I am one) but I've got to tell you that Heart's version is better. One of best covers ever made in my opinion.

It's kind of a creepy song when you actually consider the lyrical story ...
"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"I cast my spell of love on you, a woman from a child"
But try to understand, try to understand
Oh, oh, try, try, try to understand,
He's a magic man, oh, he's got the magic hands

Hard core Heart fans don't like that All I want to do is Make love to you because the Wilson sisters didn't write it for one thing. I think their label pushed it on them? It's a very male perspective lyric written by Mutt Lange. Super poppy sounding or soft rock. They lyrics are a little creepy really- so would have been super creepy if a man sang it.

This video is proof that you don't get the "real" Heart in the old, over-produced MTV-style music videos. In the live performances you get the soul, character, and energy of the Wilson sisters and their work - all of which is washed out of those hokey, staged production vids. Stick with the live stuff to see the real musicians! Just my strong but humble opinion....
