How the once threatened grey seal is thriving on UK coast

- They were once threatened with extinction, but the decline of the grey seal in the UK has largely been reversed.

And now for the first time in two decades a brand new colony has emerged.
Usually seals return to exactly where they were born, to give birth to their pups.
But three years ago seals started to appear at the Orford Ness nature reserve in Suffolk.
And now - after they kept returning - the former military testing site has officially become Britain's newest seal colony.

They are also in Sandwich and Ramsgate in lent... whoch isnt on the Map.. Although it took them a while to realise they've always been about.

Alot easier to see them on Horsey beech on the north Norfolk coast.
That seal man should have some watch towers/ houses made for him to watch over /protect the seal. Close by to the seals. It would also be good for an educational building/project. So more people are involved and can help him/ the seals. Keep them protected at all costs their numbers should be far far higher than 120 thousand in uk waters. Ideally millions.
They everywhere round my area. Whitstable, Thanet, Sandwich, Deal, Dover, Folkestone, Hythe, Romney.....
And further afield, I'm sure.

Obviously the area used by the seals needs to be fenced off to prevent human access (or worse, humans with dogs).

This is good to hear. At the same time, I have to question why the UK media feel compelled to automatically vilify the agriculture and fishing industries. I fully agree that we absolutely need to reduce the amount of plastic so that the plastic that finds its way into the seas and oceans is greatly lessened. I also acknowledge that there are some unscrupulous farmers and fisherpeople also. However, to automatically assume that the remnants of nets, lines and other boat paraphernalia has been willingly dumped into the sea is grossly unfair. The wind will blow things off of decks, things will be dropped and storms will carry things off into the sea. Think about it, it isn't in the interest of the fishing industry to pollute what gives them their living. The media have got to stop this bullying of our agriculture and fishing industries. There was no need to say "abandoned industrial fishing tackle" with such disdain without even first verifying under what circumstances that tackle got there in the first place.
