I have to admit Masako: this was easily one of my favorites in a long time. The way you subverted so many expectations in storytelling was absolutely masterful: if you ever came up with your own original stories, you'd be a best-seller
Ending reaction: ‘I’m not crying! I’m not!’ Honestly, I really enjoy what you did with Bardock. His story had a rough start but by the end as he grew and truly realised what he wanted, it made sense. He spent all his time wanting to be with Gine again, and now, he literally can spend all his time with her and his family in eternity. S Rank story MasakoX.
Easily one of the best bardock what ifs I've seen that portrays bardock how he actually is. He isn't one of the two extremes people in the fandom sometimes assign him, he isn't a family man that's beaming with love nor a cold blooded monster with no emotions whatsoever he's not a conventional father but is a lot more loving than the average saiyan due to Gine's influence. However gine isn't enough to completely overwrite his innate saiyan apathy and being stuck in hell for decades made it even more pronounced. Goku was also perfect with his initial reaction to meeting bardock just how I imagined it honestly him not hugging bardock I feel was a little jab at the what if bardock convinced the saiyans hug lol. Kinda weird to make raditz stronger than goku's base form post beerus just because he got some gains for 20 years, really shouldn't be comparable to actual training let alone the god ritual.
@@sentientmustache8360 I don't think "soft" is the right word. He's still definitely a rough, brutish Saiyan, at least at first. It's just that he also has a conscience. A lot of Saiyans are textbook psychopaths, but not Bardock.
As someone who's wanted to see this forever, this was a great take on the events, even if it wasn't what people may have dreamed of entirely, but realistic and true to character all things considered. A beautiful and well done story by all means
you dont think bardok would've enjoyed him 2nd life at all? goku acts similar to his mother who is basically a saiyan saint, you dont think he'd remind him of his mother and at least make him smile?
Damn this story actually made me tear up multiple times. Well done Masako. Your narratives bring me back to how much I enjoy a good story. Having spent the majority of my childhood simply reading fiction novels, this was a pretty nostalgic what if in the way that it struck me.
The build-up to giving Raditz his life force is one of the greatest threads I have seen on this channel and honestly, I am not a big fan of a lot of the what-ifs because I felt they took unnecessary liberties or were too melodramatic in some instances but Bardock's CONSISTENT characterization lead to a wonderful pay off that made me stop and immediately type this comment.
I love Bardock in this he has such a reasonable reaction to everything. Everything he does is great and feels very down to Earth, which is a refreshing change of pace compred to all the wacky personalities of the dragon ball world.
This is one of my favorite what ifs Masako! I like how Bardock was able to meet Goku as a adult and meeting his family his daughter in law Chi Chi, grandsons Gohan and Goten, his granddaughter in law Videl and his great-granddaughter Pan. I would like to see a sequel to this what if that focuses on Raditz late introduction after being revived by Bardock seeing Raditz meet Chi Chi for the first time and Adult Gohan, meeting Goten and Pan for the first time.
I don't think it's weird that Goku didn't immediately assume Bardock was related to him. Especially if we're including non-canon stuff. *Goku notices Bardock* Goku: Oh hey it's that guy with the evil tree
i found you very recently, through your raditz-focused videos. he's a very huge fav of mine, and i can be picky with what content i'm given of him. i was genuinely very happy with how you interpreted him in your "what if raditz turned good" series, so i obv went to seek out more. i rationally thought that raditz would have SOME involvement with a bardock story, and while i had to wait for it to happen, it was most DEFINITELY worth it. raditz and gine are my absolute EVERYTHING. i had to get up and walk around with the pure energy i got from the description of raditz's personal hell alone. i would've loved to hear them interact outside of it, but i realistically couldn't have handled it. overall, i enjoyed this what-if SO much. i cannot describe the way i've felt, but i can assure you that the work you put into this is both impressive and loved.
This was very well done. You nailed the characterizations perfectly. The story used the lore and spirit of the universe. This is my favorite story you've done.
This has got to be one of the best What Ifs that I have had the pleasure to listen to and watch develop. The characterisation and development of Bardok was something that flowed so well with the story. Well done Masako, you've made me cry at work at a ending well crafted.
THAT WAS THREE HOURS Bro, Masako, your story telling is amazing. It felt like an hour listening all of the parts individually I dont know how you do it, but its great
This.... Was the absolute best what-if I have seen yet. You did true justice to one of my absolute favorite Dragonball characters who needed it most after being consistently mischaracterized by the fandom for so long. As a lifetime Dragonball fan, I wholeheartedly thank you.
I enjoy your stories a lot, Masako. And I enjoy how every What If has such a different feel and a different theme to them. With this one, I found an unexpectedly heartfelt story about a soldier out of war. Like grandparents who never left Korea.
This has been one of IF NOT the greatest what if story I've ever seen, I hope you have a wonderful time in 2023 with your friends and family. Take care! 👍
The way you subverted so many expectations in storytelling was absolutely masterful: if you ever came up with your own original stories, you'd be a best-seller
I came to your channel yesterday and I just love your way of storytelling. It's tying you in and does not let you go. The feelings you manage to deliver by just telling a story is insane! The ending hit me really hard it was beautiful
You did all the characters a great service in terms of their personalities and motivations. Also the dbza reference “oh god I have one of those … oh god I have two of those!” Made me nostalgic
I find it fascinating that you iterate, procreate, and even sometimes procrastinate how your world works in your head and in your life… You being subjugated to being goofy goku and still having the drive for doing serious material. This is amazing. True son and father interaction. This video made me call my mom and dad🤣😉 Keep up the good work buddy. I don’t have time for Friday free for alls so maybe I’ll just donate straight out. You started round tables when I wasn’t busy and I never attended now I’m busy and I want to. The world is never what you make it or what you assumed it would be yesterday. Thank you for “what ifs for that.” You are my favorite TH-camr. Though, haverok is still my #1 on your channel🤫
This brought me to tears in a good way, I would love to see this play out in manga and anime form! Also think you could do a middle ground story of Radditz once they get back
You should make a sequel what if called what if Raditz got a second chance and continue the story from where you left it except following raditz because I feel there's potential there to make it different than the what is Raditz turned good scenario. I really loved the ending, it wouldn't be a MasakoX story without raditz being turned good somehow. It's kind of ironic to end the year this way, I got into the franchise earlier this year over the summer, and one of the first things I watched what's your what if Raditz turned good, it got me interested in your channel and Dragon Ball what ifs in general. So to end the year like this albeit a bit late, is somewhat ironic and maybe even a bit poetic
Masako, I needed this story so bad, this is dragon ball therapy, you helped me through a headache, and it was so nice to hear Gokus voice in super content was dope, thanks so much man
This was so unexpected the emotional depth of this what if was insane it really dove deep into depression and grief I'm only an hour in and it shocked me. Vegeta's lecture was very in character and more impactful to his character than I thought even though this is a non canon what if it made me see Vegeta in a completely new way
I just went through all of this in one go and now I I'm too attached to this universe. That was so good, and such a beautiful ending. I'm just now imagining the afterlife antics.
I love these stories with fresh new perspecties, similar to the Frieza turned good series. I hope you continue building up parts of the dbz world with these what ifs.
I’ve binged these one at a time, it’s a joy to watch them all at once. Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t throw out my ‘what if?’ suggestions. What if the Ox King stayed villainous? I love watching your what-ifs or he's not times out of ten they usually put a smile on my face you did a really good job with this one especially at the end
Im glad that you made a story that wasn’t power based but more emotionally based as it goes into the mindset of someone who is trapped in 2 places at once

I may be wrong about this, but so far, this is the best "What if?" I have ever seen/heard. These events, need to somewhat come into fruition, in the near future for Dragon Ball. I sure do hope so.
Really well done what if, it really does seem like something feasible considering the personalities of everyone. I am glad that Bardock didn't gain super saiyan or that he fit in with everyone on Earth, as some people have done in their fan fictions, because even in real life, it can be really hard for people from past generations, to be able to adapt to the newer generations, since even my old man who had me in his 40-50s could never get into the new tech or lifestyles we have right now, like the smartphones or computers we have access to, or how carefree and adaptable things currently are, which is why we could never truly see eye to eye, but we somehow managed to live together and patch things up a bit before he passed away. Are you going to continue the story with Raditz?
I loved this story masaco I've followed u since I learned what abridged in 08 in some ways at least and this here was a beautiful and I mean a beautiful story told by an amazing story teller thank you for the last five hours I could not have spent it a better way
I absolutely love all the videos you made they're so entertaining and hilarious you always had me bursting with laughter the ending of this video was so heartwarming!look forward to watching your next video and keep up the great work!!😂😁
Thanks for watching! It's time to sit back and enjoy the full story in one go.
Thanks!
What if Goku meets Gine, his mother in paradise?
Does this ending mean more Raditz?! ❤
I've been waiting for this forever
@@TheAnonymousShade It certainly does!
I love that Bardock huffs as much copium as possible trying to understand Goku

I am glad that Bardock didn't gain super saiyan or that he fit in with everyone on Earth, as some people have done in their fan fictions, because even in real life, it can be really hard for people from past generations, to be able to adapt to the newer generations, since even my old man who had me in his 40-50s could never get into the new tech or lifestyles we have right now, like the smartphones or computers we have access to, or how carefree and adaptable things currently are, which is why we could never truly see eye to eye, but we somehow managed to live together and patch things up a bit before he passed away. Are you going to continue the story with Raditz?
Never expected to get teary-eyed from a DragonBall fanfic but the scene with Bardock and Pan hit too close to home.
