This weekend we had to say a very sad farewell to our beloved Jerry. You willl always be in our hearts ,Jerry . This You Tube Channel is dedicated to you . Jerry will be kept alive here on Vintage Comedy Classics until the copyright mongers shut us down. Keep Jerry's memory alive everyone .Like and share this to your hearts content. Thanks to all of you for making this channel possible with your support. Shalom, Tova
I'll never forget watching this film on TV with my best friend Eric in eighth grade. During this scene, we laughed so hard we couldn't breathe. His mother kept coming into the living room to check on us, because we couldn't stand up straight. We'd try to straighten up and then we'd fall back down on the floor laughing. Jerry was the man!
Hope you can see this through the New Nazi Censors. Years ago when I was about 16 me and some friends went into city hall and into the council chambers. I sat in the mayors chair and pushed the button that made the whole dais rotate. A few minutes later the mayor of San Bernardino come is with his entourage and quips "Playing mayor for the day?" and keeps walking into the back room next to where the mayor and city council sat. Years later I was front page news for something that happened in those same council chambers. Go look me up.
Without doubt, the most inventive of all Jerry Lewis routines. A masterpiece that has never been duplicated. His comedy and charity will live forever !
I remember seeing this on TV as a young boy. I thought it was one of the funniest things ever. It's like a beautiful dance. The composition is nearly flawless.
Still have and listen to the old cassette recording I have of this. Yeah, I'm ancient. This film and The Bellboy had some of his all-time best skits and routines.
I NEVER get tired of this. When my 3 besties and myself were kids, and if we had VHS, DVD or current technology, we would have played this scene over and over and over and over -- to practice doing this scene. The mime. We adored Jerry Lewis. Still do.
This scene is sheer brilliance, only Jerry Lewis could have pulled this off. But can we talk about the music for a minute.. the soft wonderful strings in the beginning, the upright bass slapping its way towards the soulful drum beats, and the brilliant crossfade the sound department made from the introduction into the Count Basie recording. Man, musicians just don't play like that anymore..
Oh COME ON! They were a lot tougher and smarter back then, and knew what a PLANdemic was!! They would have all been at work, no masks, providing for their families! Washington State
Brilliant!! Made me laugh as a 9 year old. What I notice as a 60 something, is the Big Band Music. A well arranged orchestra can capture feelings. Stellar!!! ❤️
It is more than funny, it is a beautiful reflection of those Walter Mitty dreams that live in most of us. Basie's music so easily glides the action and the mirth into a fable of the self-aware labor ascending into position of connected manager.
If I was the boss and I walked in on this, I'd just laugh, applaud and let him have another cigar. "If you can't live and have fun once in a while, what's the point of existence? Enjoy yourself, kid."
Im 41 and Jerry is still the best in my book you know what im saying him and Jim Carry are one of a kind that comes around every ones in a while. Cant wait for the next great comedian hope I get to see one like them to.
Today we lost one of the greatest comedians of film and stage that ever lived. Thank you Jerry Lewis for your genius of laughter, for making this world a kinder place to live in and your great work for Muscular Dystrophy. Rest in peace.
RIP Jerry. Even though you have gone to a better place, your work is still here to give us all a laugh and good time. Thanks for your many contributions not only in the field of entertainment but also to the MD charity drives every year.
To those of us of a certain age Jerry will always be an iconic figure. May God rest his soul. He will be beloved for all of his great philanthropic works ,
I don't know about the comparisons to current actors and comedians, but my book says that this guy will never be topped. He was a great actor and a pretty good singer, too, but is sense of comedy is un-matched and always clean. Ironically, he said that the comedy was the hardest role for him and that serious acting was much easier to do.
The name of this segment is "The Chairman of the Board" based on Count Basie's "Blues in Hoss' Flat" and is probably one of Jerry's most famous pantomime bits (next to Leroy Anderson's "The Typewriter")
I had heard of the name Jerry Lewis before vaguely, but at 33 years old I am really just discovering his work this past year. The guy is absolutely hilarious and I see why he is seen as one of the greats. When you are in your teens and early twenties you don't really think anything this old can be funny due to the lack of vulgarity that is more popular in todays comedy world, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. I look forward to going over his catalog of work.
The Errand boy 1961. I was born in 62, but when I was about 7, TV on the weekends would show old movies. I was always hoping the movie would be The Errand Boy!! 💗 He was so funny!
Find myself watching it over and over again trying to see if I can catch some type of weird crazy thing that Jerry Lewis would say, I play this every morning or at the end of every day now, just to have fun with it, to see if I can do the same thing in sequence with my emotions for that moment. I'm going to film it one day cuz it's hilarious it's so fun somebody should try it, peace and love ☮️💜 D. F.
Screw Hollywood, this guy was pure genius, the problem with his peers and what rubbed people the wrong way is he knew he was a genious, and deep down he knew they knew he was a genious, France was right, you don't here that a lot.......
Jerry was definitely a genius. He was probably also an undiagnosed bipolar and those people can be a bitch to deal with when they're on the extreme ends of their swings. I have friend who is that way. He's had a more interesting and adventurous life than anyone I've ever known but I don't envy him the mental states that have driven him to have that life.
simplement génial, un grand acteur malheureusement oublié, j'aime tout ce qu'il a fait, je revois toujours ses films avec le même regard que quand j'étais enfant, il me fait toujours rire, à chaque fois je redécouvre ses gags
The Count Basie Music is perfect with this scene. So sad that they do not make music like this anymore, A Long Gone sound of the 1940's through the early 1970's.
As a child, Mr. Lewis was my introduction to comedy. Lewis, the Three Stooges and others. He was a comedic genius, both in speaking and non-speaking roles.

He is the BEST there ever was.
He passed away? I just remember loving this movie, when I watched in 2016 and It just occurred to me and watch it again. love this clip
R.I.P.

I can totally picture it 😆
This Jerry Lewis short is a masterpiece. You will never be forgotten. RIP Jerry.
Without doubt, the most inventive of all Jerry Lewis routines.
A masterpiece that has never been duplicated. His comedy and charity
will live forever !
one of the ABSOLUTLY GOLDEN MOMENTS in cinema...
I remember seeing this on TV as a young boy. I thought it was one of the funniest things ever. It's like a beautiful dance. The composition is nearly flawless.
He had the knack of turning his body into another instrument. He did this sort of routine in several movies. The best comedian ever.
His timing is so perfect it’s scary. Jerry you were the best and we all miss you.
This scene is amazing. Pure comic brilliance.
Sheer comedic brilliance. Count Basie's arrangement and performance is top shelf as well.
Still have and listen to the old cassette recording I have of this. Yeah, I'm ancient. This film and The Bellboy had some of his all-time best skits and routines.
I was three years old and this routine still holds my attention to this very day 65 Now .❤😂😂 Thanks Jerry.
Me too. Same age.
Mortality is a bitch ain’t it?
@@mattymayhem1232 So is profundity.

Love him or hate him, you can’t deny his brilliance! He was a master

This is so inventive. Marrying comedy with music and pantomime.
Having the office for yourself while everyone else is working from home because of COVID.
😂 Brilliant !
Oh COME ON! They were a lot tougher and smarter back then, and knew what a PLANdemic was!! They would have all been at work, no masks, providing for their families!
Washington State
completely underrated comment.
RIP Jerry Lewis :( This was my all time favorite movie of his - just so random and fun.
Jerry will be missed, the best comedian of all time! He will be in our hearts forever!!!
An iconic scene. One of the best.
the best movie scene by Jerry Lewis, will always love him!
Agreed. My favorite part of the film.
Brilliant!! Made me laugh as a 9 year old. What I notice as a 60 something, is the Big Band Music. A well arranged orchestra can capture feelings. Stellar!!! ❤️
This was take one, pure improvisation.
Simply genius!
He's revealed in later interviews that he spent a year working on this, for hours each day. Not improvised -- fully choreographed.
Pantomime along with the the great COUNT BASIE AND HIS ORCHESTRA. Two geniuses at work: RIP JERRY AND THE COUNT!!!
The music is "Blues in Hoss's Flat" by Frank Foster.
@@billkirchner6738 ...Correct!
Brilliant pantomime at the rhythm of Count Basie's orchestra. One of my all time favourites! And that's a long, long time.
Whether you like Jerry Lewis or not....this is really funny. Perfect.
You know who brought me here....
AAAAAAAWWWWWWWW JEEEESSSSSUSSSHHHH
My man Billy red balls
Absolutely FABULOUS!!

Jerry Lewis was the funniest man ever. This scene was pure genius. Only Jerry would mastermind comedy with perfection. R.I.P. Jerry Lewis
Today we lost one of the greatest comedians of film and stage that ever lived. Thank you Jerry Lewis for your genius of laughter, for making this world a kinder place to live in and your great work for Muscular Dystrophy. Rest in peace.
Especially for his time and effort’s toward Muscular Dystrophy as I can somewhat relate as my wife and I have a son with Cerebral Palsy.
I remember laughing so much at this scene as a kid. Really enjoyed all of his movies. Fantastic stuff.
and THAT was Jerry...one of his BEST interpretations
R.I.P.
RIP Jerry. Even though you have gone to a better place, your work is still here to give us all a laugh and good time. Thanks for your many contributions not only in the field of entertainment but also to the MD charity drives every year.

I’ve watched Jerry Lewis movies so many times I know what scene is coming and what Jerry is going to say and/or do.
Brilliant. Haven't seen it in 50 years. Still brilliant.
Bloody brilliant.
One of his best bits. RIP Jerry Lewis. Thank you for the laughter.
The king of physical comedy
We love you, Jerry Lewis!
Bloody Genius!
I and I saw this on tv as a child and loved it. Thank You Mr. Lewis for all your gifts to us. You will be missed. Peace. Out.
Jerry Lewis brought me here... Been watching his films for 35 years!
After watching this, I think I can see why the French are such huge fans! This is SHEER PERFECTION!!
I've always loved this scene as a kid, STILL DO, memories of great times, thanks a lot !
Same here.
PURE GENIUS
I Loved Jerry for 50 years. The MAN! I Love the SHOOW!~
No one did these routines like Jerry; the best 😂especially, the type writer ❤
Count Basie. I even like the music when he enters the room -- the build up.
The name of this segment is "The Chairman of the Board" based on Count Basie's "Blues in Hoss' Flat" and is probably one of Jerry's most famous pantomime bits (next to Leroy Anderson's "The Typewriter")
blynn1952, I understand he did this in one take.
Thank you. Never heard of The Typewriter; that was awesome!
Yes. The album title was “chairman of the board” also.
blynn1952: I was wondering who did this music. I assumed it was Count Basie but wasn’t sure. Thanks for commenting that information.
I Love Jerry Lewis for Eternity..
Same.
Forget Family Guy! That´s Jerry Lewis! He´s the best!!!!!
You do know because of Family Guy doing the reference, many people were introduced to this?
Id say that family guy may have brought more viewers to this song than there ever were in the first place
He was such an artist ! The way he follows the music with his pantomime is great ! I imagine some professional meeting working this way:::))) !

He was brilliant!!! He and Dean Martin were legendary together but Jerry just had IT! I'll always love him so much
Jerry Lewis a man so talented he can sing without lyrics 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Saw this at the theater when I was a kid. Still cracks me up and brings me to tears!1
Same. (My grandmother lived next door to Mrs Herzog - in New Orleans -- decades ago)
I love how he incorporated big band music into his comedy!! It's so funny!
Comedic genius
A time when comedy was about comedy....
RIP Sir.
The first face of comedy in my life. The one and only true king of comedy of the 20th century.
Totally agree.
AN incredible JERRY LEWIS movie ever with music ever no way! The grandest ever! The best actor ever! MERCI BEAUCOUP from France . We love yu
Cool scene
The Errand boy 1961. I was born in 62, but when I was about 7, TV on the weekends would show old movies. I was always hoping the movie would be The Errand Boy!! 💗 He was so funny!

This is my favorite moment from Jerry Lewis. R.I.P
This song will now be my alarm,
1961, Miss those years so much, Simpler life.
I will never be able to hear this song without thinking of this scene. It's impossible.
Only one Jerry Lewis he was beyond a comedic he was everything 😂❤❤❤
What a great scene along with some swinging music
The perfect clip to watch today. R.I.P,JERRY.
A wonderful man and a great actor. I grew up watching and idolizing him.
Same here.
He’s a genius. This was done in one take.
Just like the dance scene with Sheree North. Watch his feet. He doesn’t miss a beat.
Find myself watching it over and over again trying to see if I can catch some type of weird crazy thing that Jerry Lewis would say, I play this every morning or at the end of every day now, just to have fun with it, to see if I can do the same thing in sequence with my emotions for that moment. sec4558 the French are right about a lot of things, but Jerry is not one of them.
Ernesto Gasulla, ok whatever..lol
sec4558 Very well said!

He knew that people knew that he knew he was genius.
I’m not trying to be a smart ass that’s just how you should’ve put it
Wish I could understand, but just reading your words is lovely!!
The Count Basie Music is perfect with this scene. So sad that they do not make music like this anymore, A Long Gone sound of the 1940's through the early 1970's.
Cigars do indeed bring out the big boss in all of us.
this is comedy at its finest
Maravilloso 👏👏👏👏
Gracias por subirlo 👍
Perfection.
dmreeoogdaq one of the best movie sences EVER in my opinion
BRILLIANT and I have been doing this now all my life since I was a kid from this movie SO FUN!
