- At this time of year, carpenter bees are looking for a new home and will bore holes in house trim, decks, and wooden fence posts. This one found my hand and wanted to stay with me. Their mandibles can cut wood, so I was cautious but trusting, and nothing happened except a good feeling.

That bee was trying to mate with your hand 🤣
He was simply licking the salt from your skin. They usually get the salt they need from natural sources, but if they find a source close, they will use it. Wasps, honey bees, and sometimes smaller species of hornets will do the same. As long as you don't swat at them, they are perfectly harmless. ❤
while salt is abundant in certain natural formations, its accessibility in the environment can be limited, leading animals, including insects like butterflies, to seek alternative sources like tears, sweat, and puddles to meet their nutritional needs.
We’ve had carpenter bees for years and they are harmless to people. They have a tendency to fly right up to our faces, we usually just stop and say hi.
Im guessing it wanted salt
I agree.
Carpenter bees are absolutely adorable
Cute!!
I bet he likes your salt haha
Probably after salt - unless there was some other interesting smell on your hand - any other guesses?
They can’t sting but can pinch the absolute shit out of u
And the bee came back after the very next shake!
Just let him bee 😂
I've done that a few times but then they get in on my porch with a screened in and I'll catch them and let them go outside
Probably a male.
=) amazing
Hands of a 70 yr old. Impressive you’re using TH-cam.
