I’m confused as to how rebar just put in the middle with nothing binding the rebar to the concrete makes this wall stronger. That wall can move a good 2”+ either way before even contacting the rebar
That happens to a lot of corner houses, here in southern California. Especially when you have a street with a speed limit of 40+.......I have seen a lot of corner walls knocked over in my neighborhood. I always wondered if added a bollard post filled with concrete would slow them down. Or add additional rebar in the impact area of the corner.
My office has steel bollards installed all around our city block (we own the whole block). Each steel bollard is 5 foot below ground and 3 foot above ground. We had them installed in 2002 after Sep 11 attacks and back then we paid 17k for each bollard. They have a nice decorative brushed stainless steel cap on the exposed section. So far no one has tried to ram into it, but I am sure it will hold. Also each bollard is installed at 3 feet distance.

You know, laying blocks immediately after the footing is a great thing. When you put footings and you forget that you could also put the blocks immediately afterwards, insuring stronger block attachment to it is a waste of a really strong bond and also, you could easily build the blocks on it since it is still soft.
@@BruceWayne-ue5dj yea it’s not a secret. We build miles upon miles of these type of walls in Vegas. When you lay the first course in the wet concrete it’s called wet setting.
